  • WARNING: Please Read Before Purchasing
I don't like to give any company 1 star but I must warn anyone that plans on purchasing this bed rail. It is very well manufactured and does look nice, however, my wife and myself have a 25 year old disabled son and he had started to get out of his (queen matress) bed at night. We have alarms, video camera that I can check him on my iPhone at anytime which is a great item sold here on Amazon called the Cam+. The first night my son went of the end of the bed (one side is against a wall and the head is against the wall). Last night he had been in bed for about an hour and I had checked on him. Seeing that he was asleep I went to bed. My wife works and I am a stay at home Dad and care for my son and my mother in law that has moved in with us. My wife usually goes to bed early but last night she had a few things to do so checked on my son prior to coming to bed. I heard her scream so I went running! If you look at the photo you will see the two arched vertical loops in the tubing of this rail. I had the rail centered on the bed which left about a foot from the end of the rail to the head and foot of the matress. My son had some how gotten his arm down in the loop opening of the rail and his head was over the bed between where the rail ended and the head of the matress. His shoulder was wedged in this loop and his arm was almost at the floor. We could not free him because his body weight plus the angle he was in would not allow us to simply pull him out of this. I am 63 years of age and I had no choice but to grab the rail, sit on the floor with both feet against the bottom bar and had to bend the rail out wards to finally free my son. His neck and shoulder were bright red and he had a look on his face of pure fear! He is non verbal so did not let out a scream for help. He was watched for over an hour and seemed to be ok, so we didn't feel the need to take him to a hospital. If my wife had not checked on him and the way that his neck was tight against the upright part of the rail, I don't know if he would be alive today! I know that things happen but I felt the need to share this due to what MAY have happened if he had been left in bed thinking he was asleep and we felt more secure now that we had rails! My son being 25 and a medium build, I would hate to think of what can happen to a smaller person with the design of this bed rail. When I saw the words Medical Home Bed I thought this was probably a company that manufactured items more for the disabled in mind. So please, If your going to purchase this rail you MUST cover the entire rail with something that will not allow for body parts to end up like in the case of my son. I am not going to cover it or alter it in anyway! I was so upset last night that once I knew my son was ok, I bent this rail up enough to put it in the recycle bin at our home and it was picked up this morning and is now gone from my home. I could have returned it since Amazon is so great with returns but there are times when you get so upset that money is not an issue! All it would have taken is for the manufacture to place two or three cross bars in the open loop that you see at the foot and head of this rail. Yes, a person may put a arm or leg through but they would not get wedged in like my son did with this type of design. Please find something that does NOT have these open loops at the ends! ... show more

  • Flimsy spring loaded knob
After having my order "lost", then replaced after waiting 2 weeks, the rails worked beautifully for one night. Upon lowering the rail the first morning, the spring loaded knob at the head of the bed came apart, locking the rail in the lowered position and making it useless. I am now unable to raise, lower or remove the rail. The photos show the intact knob at the foot of the bed and the only 2 pieces I could find of the broken knob UPDATE: When you follow the prompts for replace/refund you are directed to Drive. Upon calling the phone number listed and choosing "consumer", a message comes on telling you that extension is invalid. Very poor customer service from Drive and Amazon if you have a problem. I now have a rail locked in the lowest position on one end which makes that side useless for preventing falls and no sign of a resolution from the manufacturer or seller. ... show more

  • Cheap Safety Rails
My mother was released from hospice services after six months that included a hospital type home bed with rails that were firmly attached to the bed frame. I put her back into her own bed with inner spring mattress on an under box that sits in the typical steel frame and ordered these home bed rails. I was confused by the limited instructions and poor illustrations. There was no way to attach the rails to the frame. I contacted the company by e-mail and they advised me to simply insert the linking cross bars under the mattress and then insert the railings. I thought this dubious since only the weight of the mattress and the person's body was used to hold the rails in position. However, following the instructions showed that they seem to work. Of course, Mother is not a heavy person and she is not attempting to go over them. I simply depend on them to prevent her from rolling off the mattress. If these rails were installed on a narrow bed and a heavy person were attempting to climb over them it seems possible that the mattress and all could go over onto the floor. Because ot their attachment to the cross bars, the spring loaded pins at each end of the rails have to be individualy pulled alternately to raise or lower the rails. This is a little awkward and can cause some sticking. However, because of the affordable price these are a reasonable way to protect a patient from rolling off a home bed in their sleep. ... show more

  • Very impressed in combo with other items
Received these in 2 days with prime. I am very impressed. I'm s physical therapist with 25 years of experience with mist of those years spent I skilled nursing while nursing facilities have done away with full length bed rails for fear of entrainment of someone with dementia trying to climb over in my opinion those changes are more to protect against potential litagstion because such facilities are ill equipped to keep a patient from getting out of bed on their own if they are not safe to do so. With that as backdrop I have to say these rails are awesome. They fit my 95 year old mothers queen size bed with no problem. Once installed under mattress they are pretty secure. To raise and lower ease of pill pin. The rails alone while stable have a little too much okay for me but once I put rail bumper pads on they are very solid with little play. I also bought bed roll pad that goes under the fitted sheet do there is no chance that she could get any limb or neck etc caught between rail and sude of bed. - ie I don't see any intrapment risk. Of course each situation is different and you will need to make that call for your loved ones but after two days of use of love the set up on my moms bed. To all caregivers out there stay strong. You are doing a great thing taking care of a loved one at home. ... show more
