This ankle brace works as expected. It is designed to fit over the heel of your foot and up to the top of your ankle, so it is important to get the correct size. Once you slip your foot into it, the strap is designed to go under the foot and around the ankle (not above the ankle), back under the foot and secured to the strap with Velcro. If you strap it too high, it will be to loose, so read the instructions and duplicate the pictures. I can wear it over my socks and am still able to put my shoes on without any issues. Having the gel pads pressing against each side of the ankle gives it additional support, feels great and it reduces the feeling of pain from my ankle injury. The booklet is very detailed with instructions and pictures. It also provides learning material to help you understand how ankle injuries occur, tips on how to prevent injuries and exercises on how to help your ankle properly heal. I highly recommend DR. I got this brace for a sprained ankle recovery for daily use. This was not intended for athletic use as it does not provide the needed support for any hard lateral movement. The brace however does provide comfortable support for daily walking activities. This comes from the compression brace and the gel side supports also provide some support and comfort while wearing. The strap can be used to provide a little more stability, but again, I do not think it would be suitable for any heavy athletic activity with a lot of lateral movement. I appreciate that it is machine washable, just not high heat dry. I think the value here is the compression brace and the wrap strap may be useful or more of a hassle depending on your need and use. For a small investment it is a good compression brace for daily wear that provides the support I need for walking around. ... show more

    • Not what I expected.
This brace is awkward to say the least! It doesn't allow you to have a smooth, tight fit. It doesn't angle in the direction it needs to for that smooth fit.

    • Great combination of comfort and stability
I have an ankle that I've sprained multiple times, so it's important for me to be careful with it when I'm active. This brace is perfect for my needs. The wrap-around strapping - which takes a little reading in the pamphlet to understand, and which requires you to realize that what looks like a loop stitched into the brace is actually a strap whose velcro tab comes secured to the strap and needs to be pulled loose - is ultimately strong support while not slowing you down or feeling constrictive. I wore it for a few hours gardening and clambering up and down slopes and over low walls, and I forgot I was wearing it. The pamphlet even comes with some diagrams of exercises for strengthening your ankle. ... show more

    • Good brace!
This brace is very nice overall. The gel pads are a welcomed feature on the sides for added comfort and support, especially with the strap tight around your ankle. The strap can be pulled tight to secure your ankle as a brace should, but can also be worn looser for general comfort outside of a sports usage. The brace is made of a very soft mesh material (other than the pieces meant for velcro) which makes me think this will wear down fairly quickly as it's used over time, especially if used for sports where it will see a lot of rough usage. Be sure to get the correct size, or else the gel supports and straps might not fit as described in the instructions. Overall, I find this to be a good value, since it is currently only $15 at the time of writing this review. ... show more

DR. BRACE ELITE Ankle Brace with strap This is an interesting ankle brace and is different from many. There are gel pieces on each side of the ankle. If we stop there, it is a comfortable ankle brace and the gel provides some much appreciated protection from bumps. The problem comes with the strap that wraps around the foot and ankle. There is a nice instruction book that talks about different ankle related conditions. The instructions show how to do it, but I found it to be an exercise in futility. When I compare the brace I received to the photos, I think the materials and construction are different from that pictured. There is a thicker non-woven section that appears to be quite short, but mine is quite long. And the weave of the rest of the strap appears different. For the brace I received, the strap starts with a semi-flexible material, then there is a thick stiff section with soft velcro on each side that is twice the length of the first section, followed by the semi-flexible material in equal length to the stiff section. You are to wrap in a figure-8 type method. The semi-flexible material wraps well, but once you wrap to the top of the brace, the inflexible material just wants to keep wrapping upwards and the only option that works is to skip wrapping upwards and just wrap around and then it is kinda useless and doesn't fit well. Add on top of that, the velcro hook end that you are to attach after wrapping the strap needs to be released from the velcro portion of the strap in order to do the wrapping. So the hook end is now flopping around while you are fighting to get the stiff area to wrap properly, constantly getting the hook velcro stuck to the actual brace, in short wrecking the brace. If the hook portion of the strap touches the brace, pulling it off in even the most gentle manner causes extreme fraying of the brace. I tried hard to make the wrap do what it is supposed to do and my brace now shows it. After taking the photo and more aggravation, I have now cut off the stupid wrap as the brace is useless with the stiff part of the strap existing. This brace would get 4-5 stars without the strap and if the strap worked, probably 5 stars. But paying for a useless strap kills the rating for this brace. ... show more

    • Gel cushion but strap is useless
This ankle brace provides gel cushioning which is nice as it keeps your shoe from rubbing a tender spot on the ankle. The brace itself fits snug to my ankle but the strap is somewhat useless. Despite following the instruction manual I found that the strap would either not stay snug or would sit awkwardly. The Velcro section was longer than the area for it to be secured so the strap would easily loosen. I eventually just cut it off and used the brace to cushion my ankle. The strap may work better for some but I did not find a good fit with the brace. ... show more
