The Polara's flexible reverbs cover a full spectrum, from the intimate warmth of "Room", to the vast expansiveness of "Hall", through time with the cosmic power of "Reverse", and anchored by Lexicon's revered "Modulated", "Plate" and "Spring" reverbs. In addition to those classics, the Polara introduces the new "Halo" reverb. The "Halo" reverb with cascading octaves interspersed in the reverb decays will cast a heavenly glow over your tone. With its new, compact size and vacuum-style footswitch, the Polara truly represents the latest evolution in DigiTech pedal design. We've put years of experience into every detail of its mechanical and sonic blueprint. • Great Digital Reverb - Lexicon!
It sounds far more natural than my Boss RV-5 which is what I was hoping for, and the Lexicon algorithms seem to deliver the goods. It is less digital and thin than my Boss reverb. I have not had any issues with power requirements, works just fine with a 9v cable from my board supply. The Spring setting sounds more natural than my Boss RV-5. I'm not an expert on spring reverbs, but I have no complaints about this one. The Plate reverb also sounds very good to my ears. The best setting for me is Hall. I have it set around 10:30 Decay, zero Liveliness, 10:30 Level and the sound is exactly what I was looking for. It sounds subtle and natural without much coloration of the original tone other than the added openness of the hall setting. Works with clean tones and heavy distortion. Vast improvement over my previous reverb. I love the fact that this is a real Lexicon reverb sound I am hearing. Halo and Reverse are interesting settings but I can't really see myself using them very much. They are nice to have, and to be honest I don't think people spend a lot of time going through the dial on a reverb after they find the sound that works for them anyway; so as long as one or two of the more traditional reverbs on this pedal suit your taste, having these two in place of gate or something else more traditional doesn't hurt anything. I consider them bonus settings or freebies. The only con on this pedal so far (and this should in no way warn you off) is the unreadability of the labels around the Reverb dial. I actually really like the pedal artwork, but the graphics interfere with the small labels around the reverb dial to the point where I just can't see them without bright light and reading glasses. It is almost impossible to tell which reverb you have selected unless you have memorized the positions. My eyes aren't 20/20 anymore, so that contributes a lot, but I have heard complaints about the labels before and have to agree that it is true. Younger eyes may have better results. ... show more

  • No need to spend $400 on a Strymon
The only thing I’m not too particularly fond of with this pedal is that the font is hard to read. You will want to memorize the switch position of the different types of reverb. Other than that though, this is the best reverb pedal I’ve used in 23 years of playing. The spring reverb is the most realistic I’ve heard outside of a Fender Blackface amp. The liveliness knob adjusts the drip sound when in spring mode and gives you all that Dick Dale surfy goodness. The hall, room and plate reverbs are all natural and realistic without any of that metallic sound found on earlier reverbs. The modulated reverb has a nice warble to it. The reverse reverb is not my cup of tea but I’m sure if you wanted to pair it with a reverse delay you could get that Jimi Hendrix reverse sound. The halo reverb is the highlight for me along with the spring reverb. It’s similar to a shimmer reverb, but not as pronounced which I prefer. You hear a nice subtle upper octave but it doesn’t drown out the dry guitar signal like other shimmers can do. I suppose if you need multiple settings of reverb the Strymon would be better for you. But I just kneel down and turn the knobs when I need to change sounds. Imagine that? Plus this Digitech is about $400 less. You can’t go wrong with Lexicon reverb sounds, which are in the Digitech. Industry standard reverb sound now for well over 30 years. ... show more

  • Best-Valued Reverb Pedal on the Market
I never used to care about reverb. I had Spring reverb on my Fender amp, and it was always just too subtle for me to care about. But then I heard the "Halo" setting in a demo on YouTube for this pedal. So I bought it to help with my ambient musical creations. This thing works wonderfully with a lot of instruments, but have seen it shine mostly with electronics. This pedal is very easy to tame and is beautiful looking. The tails it comes with are great, it's packaged so tiny which is great for saving space, and the reverbs sound amazing for the most part. The spring reverb is great, the Halo is Godlike, but the reverse is difficult to get a handle on because it only sounds harsh and scary, not very good for swells. Either way, this is probably one of the best-valued reverb pedals out there right now, and Digitech have been doing some amazing things these past couple of years, and I'll definitely keep a close eye on what they're doing next. Keep it up Digitech! ... show more

  • Good, but not for ambience
**This review is coming from a synth/keyboardist's perspective.** In spite of the somewhat odd design and difficult legibility of the text, the Polara has some great sounds on it; one of my favorite settings was using the shimmer on top of a rhodes piano--simply magical. However, I returned the Polara because it, like the RV-7, does not go 100% wet, so I couldn't have the flexibility to do really ambient things if I wanted to. Ironically, the Reverse setting (which is also really cool, especially when sweeping up and down the keys at high decay), is 100% wet all the time when I would prefer it to have adjustable dry signal! All in all, I'd use the Polara for playing lead sounds, but if you're looking for ambient goodness/padding support, direct your attention elsewhere. ... show more

  • Awesome reverbs
This thing has a bunch of very different reverb settings. It's got the standards: hall, plate, room, and then it's got the strangeness: Reverse, Halo. Halo is awesome for generating shimmering tones. Lot's of fun to experiment with different possibilities, driven with fuzz, extra delay, other modulations etc. And cool artwork. I also like the soft switch without the hard pop most pedals have. ... show more

  • Incredible!
I bought this when it was $89.95, not $169. For the price, it's absolutely incredible. I was using a reverb from a foreign manufacturer whose name rhymes with Connor, and while their reverb pedal was nice and square, it doesn't hold a candle to the Polara. The sound quality, to me, is fantastic. The modulation and halo functions are very impressive. ... show more
