  • Glad I Wwaited For Trio PLUS Version!
This is a great product from Digitech and I am glad I waited for this "Trio PLUS" version over the original Trio. The included micro SD card allows you to store up to 12 songs. It is 8 gigs so I am not certain how much it will store and will depend on the length of songs stored. I have only had it for a few hours but within a few minutes was able to find the sound and feel I was looking for. The basic process of teaching the unit a basic chord structure is very easy but I find the way you play and chord inversions should be kept very simple. Even so, using different inversions and strumming/picking will produce different results. Then using the "Genre" and "Style" knobs to get something close to what you like. Then it actually seems to adapt to your playing as you play along. I have not even begun to use the song creating feature and have been sticking to 12 bar blues to practice but you can create up to 5 sections in each song. I am running my effects pedal through the effects loop so have not yet tried the built in effects. I have read other reviews on Amazon for just the product but think many of the negative ones are reviewing the original Trio and not the newer "Plus" version. It can be easy to confuse since many ads show a plus sign instead of writing out the word "Plus". The fact that you can store your music would make this a useful gigging tool for certain applications. It is not the same as having a multi track recorder that you can simply record music as you already conceive it but this can be an interesting and fun creative tool. The deal from Gear Tree with the footswitch and 4 cables is currently the best I have found. The cables are good quality. It arrived faster than the provided delivery estimate. ... show more

  • Coolest gear purchase in a while
First, this bundle from Gear Tree is by far the best deal going. Ordering the unit, power supply, and footswitch from a well known instrument store I do a lot of business with (who doesn't have a bundle and sells each separately) would have cost me $100 more than here. And Gear Tree throws in two long, quality guitar cords and two path cords on top of that. This thing is just cool. Having an instant "band-in-a-box" to play with is the best solution I've seen for practicing, and it's also a powerful writing/composing tool. To use it in a live situation wouldn't be perfect, but would work pretty well if set up right ahead of time. The flexibility is pretty amazing. Play your chords/rhythm one way to "teach the band", if it's not just like you wanted just strum them again in a slightly different way. Then you have almost endless tweaks. 12 genres and 12 styles for each, for a total of 144 different ways for the drums and bass to play along BEFORE you do anything else. Clicking the "intensity" button for the part changes it yet again. Three levels of complexity from the "simple bass" button gives you more options. Change the tempo and the parts will adjust slightly even more. Even cooler, you can use a second looper to record the part (or DAW or other recording device if actually recording) and adjust the accompaniment on the fly. With only the slightest bit of practice, it becomes simple to move between styles, genres, turn intensity on and off, and click through the simple bass options while it's playing without missing a beat, to give you literally endless options. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Exactly what I have been looking for
I have used plenty of loopers but was wanting something that did more to add to the experience without requiring a network of independent devices, or a PhD in looping. This Trio+ is a perfect fit for me. It has a reasonably intuitive and direct interface - one which is easy enough to grasp straight out of the manual. I didn't need to surf through a bunch of YouTube videos to get going. My only hiccup was solved when I realized that I needed to turn my acoustic guitar's electronic volume up higher than 0 in order for my playing to register on the Trio+ ... I know, lol. Simply put - I just plugged in my guitar, set the Trio+ to learn from my playing - strummed in a slow, crisp chord progression - then reviewed the Trio+ created melody, playing it back and clicking through the different musical styles, until I had found one with a drum and bass rhythm that I could use. That's all it takes and I am usually off and running from there. But if the playback loop result doesn't sound good from the start, I just clear the input and try again until I get a good resulting melody from the Trio+ song creator. From there I can adjust the playback speed faster or slower to dial in the groove. In less than 5 minutes I have a backing track or song part that I can use for practice or further creation. I can add layers with more content to the basic melody, like adding counter strumming or finger styling. Either using the initial melody loop straight out of the Trio+, or with some additional layers looped in, I can make the perfect killer track with which to improvise lead, keyboard or other instrument accompaniment. With the Trio+ I can also create a progression of tracks to function as a song's various parts, and use the FS3X footswitch included in this package to advance the song parts into a beginning to chorus and back progression without ever taking my hands off of my instrument and interrupting my playing. Best of all, I can save my track and song segments to use again any time that I want. This has been great because it easily allows me to try different approaches and techniques to see how each changes the overall melody and arrangement. I didn't even know that I was able to do things like that! As an example, to start out I made a quick blues track Chords: Bm - Em - Bm - G7 - F#7 - Bm to create a playback track which I still use all the time to play and practice with my various other instruments. I have a couple of songs set up in segments as well. I use them to jam with on my electric or keyboard. The Trio+ is easy to connect and plays nice with all my other devices. There is no annoying electronic hum to contend with and the sound quality coming out of the Trio+ is excellent. The included photo shows how I currently have my Trio+ set up to take input from a Boss GT-1 multi-effects pedal. After strumming in and teaching the Trio+ my basic melody, I get a bass and drum groove going, then experiment with all kinds of effects on my electric from there. Feel like playing some Country, no problem. Feel more like some Fusion Jazz, can do. If it's more of a blues night, dim the lights and go to town. The Trio+ is as creative in any style. I just set the foundation and play it out from there. I really like the way I can get a backing track or song part, and then play over it in a number of different keys or styles. I have gotten so much better using this simple pedal and set-up. I can run the output through headphones or send it directly to my amp. One thing I would mention, there is a video by The Pedal Guy on YouTube where he explains exactly how to set up and properly use the FS3X footswitch included in this bundle. The FS3X in my bundle came with no separate manual and I could not find anything on they manufacturer's site explaining how it functions, and what it's various modes will allow it to do. That is well worth a look. I took a few notes that I added to the manual to help me remember how to get it's pedal functions the way I need prior to using the Trio+ for a session. It is easy enough to remember though once you know how you want the foot inputs to function for you. With the FS3X switch on the floor (and its cord has plenty of length for comfortable positioning) I can do everything hands free and never have to put down my instrument. That ability alone makes this bundle well worth getting. Hope this helps. Have fun. ... show more

  • Cumbersome to use for it's intended purpose. Not easy to get something that sounds good.
took quite a bit of reading and rereading to get the unit set up and able to "create a song". Would be better to use a traditional looper I think.
