I have been diapering for the past (almost) 9 years. I use a combination of both cloth and disposable diapers. For years, I tried different options and searched for something that would be good for my diapers and for keeping the smell down. This is a great diaper pail because it has the foot pedal so I do not have to touch the pail to put in the dirty diaper. Under the outer lid, there is an inner lid which helps control the smell. I very best part is that there are two options for the liners. The first option is a disposable liner that you remove with a handy built-in cutoff. The second option is a washable bag that can be used for cloth diapers. The washable bag installs easily and can be just as easily removed and thrown in the wash with the diapers. I have been looking for something like the second option for so long and am SO grateful to my husband for finding this for our family. The diaper pails feel very sturdy and I think they will hold up for quite a while. The disposable inserts last for a long time. We have 4 children in diapers/pull-ups and we do not change the liner nearly as much as we used to. Again, the capacity is wonderful. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. My previous Diaper Genie broke and based on reviews this one seems better. I wouldn't say better, I would say the same as the Diaper Genie Completes. The one I replaced was the basic model, so I've upgraded to the foot pedal which is a bonus, but the other two diaper genies I have (the completes) already have that feature and for less money. Functionally, I'd say it's better than the basic Diaper Genie and comparable to the Complete model. The main issue I have (and I use the term issue lightly, as it's not that big of one) is the smell. It's no better at containing the stink than the Diaper Genies. For the most part, the smell is only noticeable when you're tossing a new diaper in, but it still stinks. (maybe my boys just smell worse than others...) Pros: Aesthetically, it looks nicer, like a trashcan and not a diaper disposer. Bigger pail, which holds more diapers, so less changing out bags. No plastic refill container, less mess for the environment When done with diapers, it can easily be used as a trashcan, nice bonus. Cons: A bit more in price Smell containment isn't "better", just the same. Bigger pail also equals more smell. ... show more

I'd previously given this a one star review. Moving from an Ubbi, I was less than impressed at the odor emanating from this comparatively flimsy pail. But after a month or so, I've come to appreciate a couple of things in its favor. 1. It doesn't retain odor. It's good quality plastic, and once the pail is empty, a few spritzes of disinfectant spray, an open window or two, and the smell is gone. 2. It works best with the bags that come with it. It's really one huge bag that you cut with scissors and tie off. This system means you can empty the pail every couple of days to keep odor at bay without wasting bags. It still doesn't have the same build quality as the Ubbi. That pail is a supermax prison of odor control — but spray it regularly and it'll rust. This one is more like the jail in Hazard County. The smells bust out if held in too long, so best be cleaning it out regularly yourself. ... show more

This thing makes cleaning the litter boxes not the worst thing in my life! I used to have a litter genie, and I hated that thing. So much so that I switched completely to a flushable litter. I liked it, but then we moved in with new roommates who used regular litter, and it quickly became clear that my cat preferred the regular litter over the flushable kind. So, I headed to Amazon to see if there was a better alternative to the litter genie, and lo and behold! Everything that was wrong about the litter genie is right about about the Dekor plus. You scoop the poop, use your foot to open the lid, and move the scooper (the iPrimio non-stick scooper [pictured] - also a great purchase - fits perfectly) through the trap door to deposit the load. Done. There are 3 cats in the house and I empty the Dekor Plus every 3-4 weeks, maybe? It's such a non-traumatic experience that I can't even recall the last time I did it. The method of removing the full bag is so simple in comparison to the ridiculous maneuver you have to pull with the litter genie, it brings a tear to my eye. Press button, open door, pull out full part, cut, tie, pat yourself on the back for buying such a superior product. Also, I bought this several months ago and I'm still using the bag roll that it came with! It controls the odor super well too. I catch a bad wiff every once in a while if I drop a large load through the trap door, but otherwise, nothing. The bag is very heavy to dispose of when full of clay litter. That's no fault of the Dekor, but might be an issue for some. You could empty it more frequently, but I started mixing the newer lightweight litter about 50/50 with the regular stuff. The cats won't use the lightweight stuff alone, but seem to actually prefer the mix over the straight regular stuff, and it makes taking out the full bag doable for me. Also, it looks pretty nice for a poop container. The Dekor Plus makes it super easy to scoop the litter box every day, so if you aren't currently scooping the box daily, or you are but it's crushing your soul, you should just get this, because we all deserve a clean place to poop and an easy way to keep it that way! ... show more
