I'm building a remote controlled electric golf caddy and I needed some electronics to make it work. This fills the bill. Before I cannibalized the electronics, I took it out for a test drive. With fully charged batteries, the range was well over 200 feet (line of sight) which is adequate for my application as I don't want it to go really far from me. And, yes, it's a bunch of fun. When my wife and I went for our daily walk around the neighborhood, I took this thing with me to see how it would operate. We had gone about 300 feet from our home when this little beast brought out the 8 year old in me. When she asked if that "thing" had to follow us all the way, I knew that was her way of kindly asking me to send it back home, which I did. I am planning on gifting this to my 8 yr old son. We have purchased several $20-$50 RC cars in the past and I've been disappointed with their quality and battery life. But this RC car is so much better. It's very well made and is an amazing price for the value. I wanted to test drive it before I committed to keeping it. Here are my findings... Packaging: Lightweight, good quality packaging with fun graphics. The car is encased in styrofoam. I found it awesome that I didn't have a gazillion plastic tags or rubber bands or screws to take it apart from the packaging. In a little baggy you'll find the manual, battery charger, extra screws, and a screw driver. Controller: Strong hold on the battery lid. It takes 2 AA batteries. It seems to be intended for the left hand to hold it and the right-hand turns the dial. Push it forward to reverse the car. Pull it back to move the car forward. The battery: the car comes with one in the battery compartment (which is very easy to access btw on the belly of the car), fully charged and ready to go. You just have to connect the two ends for it to supply power to the car. To release the connectors it takes two hands as there are 3 clips that need pressure. I timed the battery and it was still going strong at 20 1/2 minutes! I was super impressed! And remember, it comes with a second battery. That's some serious play time compared to others we have purchased. The Car: It measures at 11 inches long x 7 1/2 inches wide x 6 1/2 inches tall. It has really good shocks and a sturdy body. The detail inside the body of the car is so cute. I can totally see my son putting LEGO guys in it to drive around! It has 4 lights across the top that kids will find awesome! Especially in the dark! It drives and reverses well. It bumbs softly into walls and such. I had it climb over books and clothing and piles of towels. It has great power and totally can if the incline isn't too steep. If it's too steep it will just flip over and get stuck on its back. No biggie. I did notice that once it's engaged in one direction it's a little sluggish in responding to turn the other way. But for kids I actually prefer that. It doesn't go super duper fast but fast enough for beginners, for sure! My husband noted that it has front and rear motors and a tracking adjuster on the belly of the number. All in all, this is an amazing entry-level RC car. Its quality is so much better than anything I've seen or purchased from your typical large stores that carry toys. I think my son is going love this and be able to play with it much longer than other ones we've gotten in the past. ... show more

My Son is 4 years old, so I didn't want to buy him a really expensive RC Truck. This one received good reviews and the price was right. The batteries last long. It climbs up curbs and uneven sidewalks. The steering is responsive. It's not fast. That is part of the reason that I only gave it 4 stars. The other reason was that I had an issue with this truck. After sitting a few weeks, the remote would not pair with the truck. It gave me no warning. We took care of the truck too. I kept it in a tote with the batteries disconnected. I contacted the manufacturer directly and the customer service was excellent. After a few short emails back and forth (troubleshooting), they sent me a brand new one. I could not believe it. My daughter bought this truck for her brothers (ages 10 & 6), and it did not disappoint. We actually bought a similar truck for a friend a few weeks back, but when Christmas rolled around we opted for this one (I do not remember all the reasons why, fwiw). This one seems to be far superior at near-identical price points. We were impressed with the size and capabilities of this truck. It climbed fairly large pillows inside and handled all sorts of terrain outside. It moves with speed and its battery is plenty strong, with a backup waiting in the wings. Overall, a very capable car at a great price. Most impressive of all, the DeeRC company customer service has been exceptional. A small piece inside the controller broke -- whether this was due to my sons' too-hard turning of the controller's wheel or something faulty in the design/production of our unit, I am simply unsure. But the company stood behind its product and is mailing a replacement. I will make sure my sons are aware of this potential problem in the future. But for the company to replace the product immediately speaks volumes about them and their products. ... show more

    • Fun for the kid that hasnt used a real RC
Steering is weak, very difficult even for an adult to use. Motors are also very weak and wont crawl up any surface greater than 30 degrees without stalling; Building momentum helps. Overall its a good cheap introduction to the world of RC cars, albeit frustrating to use. In hind sight Id likely spend the extra cash for a tier above as far as power and component quality. ... show more

Update: After giving this vehicle more time I’m bumping it up to 5 star. Im not sure what I was so disappointed with about this vehicle when I first got it? It made me quit looking at other Deerc vehicles all together, but after playing around with it more in the back yard it’s a good RC toy car. I’m guessing this was probably designed for mostly indoors, even though it is very capable outdoors. It would be a great for kids of most ages. Original review: I’ve got several RC vehicles and just wasn’t happy with the speed and power of this one for even playing with my pets. At the same time it would be a good starter RC vehicle for younger kids because of speed. It does good in grass and going over smaller obstacles, but that’s about it. ... show more
