UPDATE: After reading my previous review of this safe, the seller contacted me indicating their concern that I may have received a previously returned item and offered to send me another one. Ordinarily I would have declined, but I was impressed by the build quality of the safe and really just wanted one that wasn't damaged and actually functioned properly. The seller sent me a new safe a few days ago and this one functioned flawlessly straight out of the box. The weakness of these kinds of safes seems to be the electronics and I initially ordered the Day1 because there were few if any negative comments on the electronics. Hopefully it will continue to operate as well as it does now. ... show more

First off, this safe is pretty well made. Very heavy duty construction... At least for the door. The door is significantly thicker than the sides, back, top and bottom. But I suppose that's to be expected. Setting up fingerprint access is very easy. Open the door, press the green button, then touch the fingerprint reader 5 times with your finger. You'll see a green light and that fingerprint can be used. You can register up to 25 fingerprints. I found that I had to register the same finger twice for using the tip of the finger instead of the pad. It can then read that fingerprint at any angle, which is very nice. Setting up the passcode was a real pain. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out why it wasn't working. I used the key to open the door, pressed the green button twice, and put in my desired passcode. When I tried to use it, it would work. Tried again, no luck. So I tried using the default passcode of 123456. That didn't work either, and it set off the alarm! I'm glad I set the fingerprint up first because the key wouldn't shut the alarm off! So I went back and reset/initialized the passcode and fingerprints. I added a fingerprint and tried using the default passcode. It wasn't working. So I tried0 putting it in VERY SLOWLY, giving at least a 1 second delay before inputs. That made it work. So I tried setting my own passcode again, this time very slowly. Then I entered it very slowly, pressed the # button, and it finally worked. I'm glad that passcodes are a secondary method of unlocking, because it's a real pain. For the price of the safe, I'd expect a seamless experience, especially if you prefer to use a passcode. When unlocked with passcode or fingerprint, there's an interior light that comes on. It doesn't stay on very long, though. It stays on for about 10 seconds then goes off. Unless you plan to be in and out quickly, I'd recommend getting a separate light source for inside the safe. The inside is pretty spacious. I'm primarily using it for safely storing medications right now. I'm able to store a full size yellow folder full of documents longways on one of the shelves. The shelves inside the safe are adjustable. They can be raised or lowered. The metal tabs that hold the shelves in place can be folded up, and the shelf can be moved to another spot with the tabs. I wouldn't reposition more than once, as the tabs will probably snap off if bent too much. It comes with 4 adhesive feet, easy to install. Just peel the backing and stick them on the bottom. Once I installed the feet, the safe started tilting forward when the door is open, due to the weight of the door. Granted, the safe is currently empty, but that door is pretty heavy so you'll need a bit of counterweight to avoid this. There are 4 holes on the back covered by stickers for mounting the safe to a wall. There are 4 expansion bolts included for mounting. You'll need a drill to mount the safe. Overall, it's a good safe. There are issues with the keypad input, but the fingerprint sensor works well. ... show more

    • Interesting Biometric Fingerprint - Actually Works. Box Equiv to Name Brands
I don't know this brand and never saw it before but that's true of many things here, and I find much of high quality, including this nice safe. It's not perfect on the fingerprint reader and somebody might complain about it, but if you hold your finger on it in close to the same position each time, you'll find, as I have, that it works pretty well. That said I like to use a secondary lock on it. Nice that i can secure it to the floor same as with a name brand, and it's certainly as thick and heavy as my other one of the same size, a Sentry with a keypad and cylinder lock. I use two locking features on that safe also - always good practice. Battery life is good so far and I'd feared otherwise but it seems it will last as long as any with a keypad combo - the reader apparently doesn't use more power than that. I like it as a small safe for in a closet or under a table and I wouldn't put the crown jewels in it, but it's great for documents, meds, petty cash, things that should be secured but don't need a safe at 50 times this cost range. It's a good value and I think I'll use it for a long time to come. ... show more

This safe has a good build quality. Seems durable. Like that it can be mounted to wall or floor. The only issue is i can't get the biometric to work.

    • Great for storing small items
This safe is great for storing little things. I've been storing pills and extra cash in it right now as well as my fine jewelry. It's been perfect for just inside my closet, it's not too large as to be 'in the way'. It's super easy to get into and set up. I have the emergency key on my office keyring, but I can't imagine needing it very often. It comes with an emergency power source that you can hook up to the the digital/biometric lock if the batteries inside the safe run out before you have a chance to open it and change them. I really like that, lots of options to get into it without having to break into the safe ... show more

    • Nice safe, but biometric doesn't always work
Had the devil of a time trying to get the programming done for the biometric reader on this safe -- the directions weren't correct on the programming sequence with regard to the number of presses on the concealed programming button. And, actually, I tried so many ways, I don't recall which worked, as I wasn't writing it down, just trying series of double click, triple click, etc. The safe itself is a nice size with 2 adjustable shelves and hooks on the door. The number code programming was easy and straightforward, and it works as it should. My main concern is that the plastic turn lock handle seems quite flimsy. Thankfully, though, the in-door bolts are metal and quite strong. Another thought is that the side and top walls of the safe - if exposed - could probably be cut easily with power tools. Overall, a nice safe for the price, and it can be bolted to a wall through the back of the safe, hardware included. ... show more
