  • Great For Beginners.
Color: Vintage Sunburst
It's even prettier in person! It plays really well, and has a beautiful, clear sound, as well as being easy to figure out for beginning guitar players. Would definitely recommend for those wanting to get into electric guitar.

  • Unexpectedly decent guitar and amp set
Color: Vintage Sunburst
I've purchase four similar-type guitars lately for practice in building electric guitars. This guitar is surprisingly nice. It should be considered a "starter" guitar-- but a good one. Here are the pros and cons: - Has only one pickup and that's near the bridge. Don't expect rich, deep tone. This guitar is obviously designed to appeal to the younger generation looking for metal / distortion guitar playing... thus the location of the pickup. + But it's a rather nice humbucker and pulls the best sound possible out of this guitar, considering its location. + The body is pristine, gorgeously finished. The wood (at least on the one I received) was well-assembled with joint marks just barely visible and blended in with the transparent / grin finish. It's an attractive guitar. + A swirl-maple 1/16" veneer on the surface of the neck provides an attractive and durable surface + The neck is straight and sturdy. I did not have to adjust the guitar or action at all... rare with off-the-shelf guitars. + The amplifier with this-- although predictably "tinny" due to the small speaker size-- is surprisingly robust. The basic tone is clear and clean, even at higher volume. Hit the "overdrive" button and you can get all the dirt and grit you want. Overall, it is a much better amp than a similarly-configured competitors guitar set (which I also bought. In short... this guitar set is better). + I like that the bottom of the neck (where it joins the body) is rounded and smoothed rather than cut off straight as we see with some guitars in this price range. + Comes with everything you need-- guitar cord, strap, picks, tuner and gig bag. In summary-- this is a nicer guitar set than I thought it would be when I first purchased it. You get the entire set for about the price of a Fender Squier and the nicer tone and power of a humbucker pickup (although of course, not the tonal versatility of a 3-pickup Squier). I consider this guitar set to be well worth the purchase price and a good choice for a beginning guitar player. ... show more

  • Great Starter Kit
Color: Blue
I'm just starting to learn to play guitar (bought this to play Rocksmith 2014 with), and I've played with it for over 40 hours now. It's very good value for the money, an excellent choice if you want to try learning guitar, but don't want to spend a lot of money. I haven't had trouble with buzzy frets, loose pegs, out-of-true neck, or noisy pickups like one might expect with a cheap guitar. I got the "blue" one, but it is not the royal blue in the picture. It's more of a cerulean, but the wood grain, which runs parallel to the neck, is visible. It's very pretty. I've been playing a lot of different songs with different tunings, and I haven't had a string break yet, but I did pick up an extra set just in case (along with a capo). I'm not sure what size the strings it comes with are, but I got a set of 9-46 and I think they are slightly thicker than the original ones (maybe 8-38?). I didn't find the pitch pipe terribly useful, and instead grabbed a tuner app for my phone. The kit came with 3x 0.58mm, 1x 0.71mm, and 1x 0.81mm picks. The cable and amp are just great. Turn the guitar up to 10 and the amp to about 0.7 and it's plenty loud for practicing without disturbing the neighbors. If the amp went to 11, I think it would be classified as a weapon of mass destruction. The guitar comes packaged in the gig bag, and that gig bag doesn't have any padding in it; it's just the heavy nylon with a pocket on the front. Good enough to get around, but don't count on it to keep the instrument from getting banged up. I've had no problems with the strap, which is easily adjustable. I have noticed a few things that make me give it only 4 stars, the main thing being that where the frets meet the edge of the neck, they are quite rough, like they were just clipped from a wire and not smoothed. I noticed the skin on the first bone of my fretting index finger getting a bit chewed up after playing for a while. I've taken to loosely wrapping a bit of silk tape around it while I play. Next, the finish starts to smell like super glue (guy at the guitar shop says it's urethane) after I've played for a few hours. Also, sometimes after playing for 2-3 hours, the pickups pick up pretty much anything without regard to volume, so just fretting lightly sounds just like hammering down on a string. I don't know what that is about since it's not reliably replicable. Overall, I would recommend this to someone looking for an inexpensive starter kit. I also got an inexpensive floor stand and the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable at the same time. ... show more
