  • Not your traditional nut setter
The bite on these things is great. Took of a series of rounded off bolts with no problems

  • So Far, So Good! 5 Stars.
I own a set of Metric and SAE sockets with a similar design that grip onto the flats of the nuts and bolts instead of the points. They are the best set I've owned and have saved me numerous headaches. Before I owned that set, I had to do the old-fashioned methods of extracting rounded nuts and bolts. To test the Crescent Bolt Extraction set, I put a 1/4" name-brand driver that only grips the points into my Makita impact driver and drove a screw into a piece of oak. Then, I purposely rounded the screwhead until I couldn't remove it. I switched drivers to the Crescent and the screw was out in a few seconds. I don't know how strong the shafts are so I can't recommend using them with extremely powerful impact drivers. What I do is push hard onto the bolt and, uh, I'm not quite sure how described this with words, but I don't keep the trigger squeezed. I guess you'd call it pulsing. Short bursts until the bolt loosens. That's usually what works for me and doesn't break the shafts. I'm looking forward to using these in the field to see how long they last and how well they function both tightening and removing. Since they grip differently, they ought to last longer than the "normal" drivers. We'll see. Not only do I sometimes strip the screwheads, but also, I strip the drivers. It's fairly easy to do in tight space when you can't get the driver all of the way onto the screwhead or have to drive while on an angle. For now, I give these 5 stars and if they break quickly or I discover a flaw, I'll come back and update this post. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed
We had an old TV mount stuck to the wall, and the bolts were already a little rounded from the installation. These Crescent bolt extraction bits were able to grab onto the old bolts and we were able to remove them using our impact driver. We just leaned into the bolt to ensure that the bit was making contact and did short bursts with the impact driver to loosen it and eventually remove the stuck bolt. For the price, these are invaluable tools to have in a toolbag. ... show more

  • good grip
Grip well, so long as the bolt is not crumbling apart from rust. Has worked well on a few stuck fasteners on my Jeep. Good add to your kit.

  • Handy, work well
So far I have only used one of these once on a single bolt on an old piece of equipment. The bolt had become rusted in place and mishaped from trying over and over to get it off with a wrench and pliers. The extractor I tested worked like a charm when I attached it to my drill. The way the heads of these extractors are made, they can grab ahold of mishapen, damaged bolts to pull them off when other tools on't work. They seem strong and good quality and I like the little case they come in that keeps them together and organized. I'll have to wait to test them any further until I come across another bolt that won't come loose or is damaged, but I am very happy with these after my initial test. These are vey handy to have on hand. When the time comes that you need one of these, you'll be thankful you planned ahead and got them. ... show more

  • Convenient
This extraction set is convenient in that it has the 1/4 quick change shank to work with impact drivers. It comes with 5 sizes to work with 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", and 1/2" hex heads. The extractors have points/flutes that bite into the flats of the bolt. It's a tight fit getting it onto the bolt head and pressing it further onto the head increases the bite since the extraction socket is tapered. Unlike other extractors, the flutes aren't spiraled, but are straight since this set is supposed to work in both directions to loosen or tighten. I'm not sure I would ever want to tighten a damaged/rounded bolt, but I guess I can now. I tried a couple of sizes out on a couple of lag screws and they worked fine, although the screws weren't seized. ... show more
