  • Gets the job done!
Style: Circular Saw Only
Built this alternating tread staircase using this saw. Needed some adjustment to get square cuts but it cut the 2x12” and 2x10” fine. I found using a large battery helps. The depth adjustment level comes loose so check it often. Impressed with this compact saw!

  • Cheap cordless circular saw with issues
Style: Circular Saw Only
Update 12/02/2019 - I returned the original V20 cordless saw for a replacement - I thought I could get a saw with better alignment. Well the replacement was far worse than the original. Check out the 2 attached images. The first shows the vertical blade alignment was way off - not only was the alignment of the blade way outside the notch , it was not parallel to the shoe base. The second shows the problem - the saw body is anchored by a couple of angles to the shoe base and they were bent. I returned the saw immediately. I then went to a L**es big box store and bought a 3rd hoping for some good luck. Unfortunately, it had the same problems as the second and I returned the it too. Looks like the Craftsman brand is not what it was in the past. Accordingly I updated the star rating and the title of this review. I got the V20 Craftsman 6-1/2 saw (tool only) as a cheap go-anywhere saw. Let me list the pros and cons as I see them - Pros- 1) Relatively lightweight - although you have to try it with a 4.0 Ah battery attached. If your wrist/arm starts getting tired soon, it's not lightweight for you. 2) Electric brake - literally the fastest brake I have experienced - halts the spinning no-load blade in under a second. 3) Factory-set 0 degree vertical alignment of blade against base plate, when checked with a precision steel square, was perfect. 4) No blade wobble or bearing play that I could detect. This is saying something. I had a Skilsaw 7-1/4 Southpaw which had a some play in a bearing/bushing - enough to create a guessing game with cut accuracy against a thin pencil line. 5) Of course, no electric cord. 6) Cheap at the price compared to other name brands (tool only). Cons - 1) Relatively thin, stamped metal base plate. Rear right corner flexes too much - tightening the plunge depth lever by levering against the base plate shows way too much flex in the base plate. 2) Changing blades is difficult. Even with the blade nut and washer removed, the end of the bearing/axle protrudes so much that the new blade has to be forcibly inserted under the plastic retractable blade guard, scratching it and possibly cracking the plastic. A blade change should just pop in and lay flat. 3) Because of con #2 above, the blade was not aligned with the 0 degree cut notch on the base plate. I could not determine if the blade was aligned front to back - I do not have a set of calipers to check the distance from the front and back blade edges to the base plate edge. 4) The safety switch/trigger is odd - it has to be pushed towards the front, not sideways. I prefer a safety trigger that has to be pushed sideways so that the saw can be held against a rip fence all the time. Pushing the safety trigger with my thumb towards the front caused a slight movement of the saw, causing damage when the blade ate into the zero-clearance homemade track saw jig I made for the saw. 5) Overall, there is too much flex in the saw - either from the base plate or from the connections to the base plate. The zero clearance cut line of my homemade track saw jig for this saw started generating a lip of a fractional millimeter after only a few cuts. I cannot comment on the run time with a single 4.0 Ah battery as I only made a few cuts in 0.5 inch and 0.7 inch plywood but enough to drop one of the battery bars (out of three lit initially) but this is definitely not an all-day cordless saw. The included blade was changed to a DeWalt 40T - much smoother cuts in plywood with little tearout. Some of you may think that I am nit-picking with some of the cons. But for me, accuracy is important - errors do stack up. Cons #2 and #3 above were problematic for me. I returned the saw for a replacement. Hopefully the replacement will mostly fix con #2. I will update after trying the replacement saw, but essentially you get what you pay for with this saw. If con #2 was fixed, this would be a decent cordless saw for occasional work around the house. If you are a professional or a DIY'er and repeatable cut accuracy is important, this saw is not for you. ... show more

  • Cuts good
Style: Circular Saw Only
First time saw buyer and it runs good, easy enough to install the blade when you read the instructions, no major issues, wish i had got a miter saw instead but this has done the job just with a little less accuracy thatn i needed. This was the wrong tool for the job I was doing, but still did a decent enough job. I just needed more precision. ... show more
