You can use the app but it is not necessary. You mash the button once to turn on and do the floor and walls, twice to clean only the walls, and three times to clean the floor only which is our usual choice. This is a great way to clean your pool sides and all. My only complaint is the top cover is hard to snap back on and if it is not positioned right it won't stay on and could be a pinch point for fingers. It does a pretty good job of cleaning the pool, but it does not follow a prescribed pattern or "learn" the layout of your pool. It simply roams around your pool randomly and sucks up debris. I putchased this cleaner afyer years of frustration with the Hayward cleaner that I previously had. After charging this cleaner. I turned it on and watched it clean my pool floors, steps, and water line. In two hours, my pool was clean. The machine is sturdy, strong, efficient, and exceeded my expectations. Upon removing it from the pool I cleaned the debris compartment and found leaves as well as fine dirt and sand was collected in it. The media could not be loaded. Easy to set up and it did a great job. I checked with Customer Service to make sure it was safe for an Above Ground Pool wall and they confirmed it is. Just charge it and download the app to use it. Took just a few minutes after charging and it was "ready to work". I used the "All Cover Mode" to do the walls and floor of the pool. It did the sides first (it literally scrubs the waterline) then did the floor for a total of 2.5 hours. The basket picture shows the debris after 5 days from previous robot cleaning and my pool looked totally clear before I put it in. The robot does a way better job than I do at scrubbing and vacuuming the pool plus I want it for when the water is too cold for me to get in the pool to clean it. NOTE: I turned off the pool pump so the jet doesn't blow the robot off the wall. The first time the robot missed a section because the jet kept getting blown off. Once I turned the pump off, it did the entire pool. Very impressive! ... show more

I had high hopes for this pool cleaner. It is very impressive to look at. Unfortunately it does not pick up the debris at the bottom of the pool. It spends most of his battery climbing up the walls of the pool and doing wheelies on the bottom of the pool. While the wheelies are fun to watch, nothing is being sucked up from the bottom of the pool. I had no idea this robot cleaned the sides of the pool, maybe I missed that while researching this item, but I do not need the pool sides cleaned as they are not dirty. I need leaves and debris picked up from the bottom of the pool. Unfortunately, this robot does not do that. I missed the return window as I had surgery which is a shame as I would definitely return this item. I wasn’t sure about this, but there is so much construction around us now the pool was having to be swept more often, so I decided to get this. I wanted easy. Turn on, put in pool And let it do its thing. I didn’t want to fool with apps. But I did find out to get it out of the mode it’s in when it comes you have to download the app. I know this because I called customer support because I was going to send it back. (They answered right away and helped me) after you download app it automatically stays in full mode. Which is sides and bottom. You do have the option of just doing bottom or just sides. But when you turn it in after that each time it is in full mode. It runs for about 2.5 hours or more. I don’t watch it the whole time. It stops in a corner when it’s done (no more battery) there is a hook you attach to your own pole to pull it out. pool is perfectly clean. I have a 12x24 kayak pool. It even climbs the stairs I have in the pool. This is first summer (and it was at the end, used it for about a month) I wish I had got it sooner. I hope this last.
