So the main thing to confess is that I am an extreme novice when it comes to jigsaws. This is literally the first one I own. So I cannot compare with other jigsaws made by some of the bigger fish in this pond. The jigsaw has some weight to it, and it feels like it was made to strike that balance between function and cost. The plastic casing is thick and protective, and the rubber handle provides some extra grip which is appreciated. The main thing I love is its compatibility with DeWalt battery packs. This allows my to use the battery off of my hammer drill, and not have to invest in a whole new ecosystem of lithium batteries. This compatibility is the main selling point for me, especially since this is more of an entry level jigsaw, perfect for someone with my current skill set. One thing to note is that you do need to tighten and loosen screws to change the angle on the jigsaw, which is not the most optimal way to do things in my opinion. Over time those screws will get stripped and need replacing, and I am just not a fan of that design. This likely saves money in its manufacturing, but will leave you needing to take lots of adjustment breaks if your job requires a variety of angles. For most of my jobs, being a novice and all, I will be making basic cuts so it is not that big of a deal, but thought it was worth mentioning. ... show more

    • Cuts Nicely, But Angles Are Off
This cordless jig saw was ordered for use in my workshop and around my house. After opening the box, a DeWalt battery was added, and tested to make sure the tool would run. Of course, it came on and ran smoothly. It has good speed, but not the fastest jig saw I've ever had. From a pure power standpoint, it performed OK, but this saw is definitely for DIY use and not a professional saw. I liked the brushless motor performance. The angle setting is changed with a screwdriver that is included. Frankly, I had difficulty obtaining a true 90 degree setting with this mode of setting the angle. I question whether or not a 90 degree angle can be made that will hold its position. The tool makes a cut of up to about 3 inches for wood and 3/4 inch in PVC. For me, that is satisfactory in most uses. Changing blades was quick and easy since it has a lever-action keyless change process. One of the features that I liked is that the tool is a variable speed saw. Thus, the speed can be changed according to the cut I want to make. The rubberized grip is comfortable and somewhat conforms to my hand. BOTTOM LINE: The jig saw is a somewhat middle-classed DIY tool. It has decent speed and cutting power, but nothing exceptional.     • It Makes the Cut
When I got this saw, I reminded myself not to expect too much, so perhaps that is why I gave it four stars. This saw does have some issues. Out of the box, the sole plate was really far from perpendicular to the blade. I had to fiddle with it for quite some time to get it close. I expect to use this saw to rough cut templates for my edging router, so I am not too upset about the sole plate. We will see how well it holds the position I have it in now. I find that it cuts as well or better than expected. I have been accustomed to a very old and ancient corded skill saw and this saw does as well. I have a bunch of Dewalt batteries so I am not terribly concerned with battery consumption. Time will tell if this saw continues to perform for me, or if it will fail prematurely. If it does, I will be back to update this review. ... show more

    • Impressive cut quality!
I must have been using junk saws most of my life, because I have never had a jig saw cut this well. The 3 different orbital actions do make a difference in how well it cuts. I will say that the angle adjustment is fiddley, but at the current price point I'm not disappointed with it. The included blades cut smooth and clean which is impressive too because my experience has been that the blades they send with these tools are usually the worst ones you could use. It is a brushed tool so battery life isn't as good as it would be on a brushless tool, however I have enough batteries that this isn't a big issue for me. There is a little clear plastic blade guard or shield that I don't see hanging around for very long as it doesn't attach secure enough and it can get bumped off. For the price this tool is a winner in my book it does exactly what it is supposed to do without the inflated price. If you are like me and just want tools that work and are compatible with your current platform then give this one a try. ... show more
