I just purchased this and haven't had a chance to use it yet. But I've used come alongs for years. To address some of the bad comments. A two ton vehicle being pulled from being stuck could need a whole lot more pull than 4 tons. Resistance of ground, gravity, suction from mud etc. When a come along is over worked you should be able to notice it while using it. Rewinding a come along after use is important that it's done under pressure. If you just rachet it up loosely then the next time you use it the cable will get Tangled up. I hook the cable to something and pull on it as I crank it in. Whether it can do 4 tons or not I don't know. It's probably more a rating of the cable than the mechanisms themselves. I can't see this lifting a 2 ton car off the ground. Anyone who claims any come along can, is crazy. But when I see it's overloaded by how it's not spooling correctly I learned the hard way, stop. Move to another angle or use two come alongs and alternate cranking it up between the two. I've ruined a few in my life time and I always see it's not working right. Impatience is what screws it up. First of all, this cost the same as the Harbor freight come along with twice the weight capacity and extra length, so I will be comparing the two. Between the two, this is VERY thin metal, the mechanism to release the gear keeps misaligning, and there is a super ultra thin piece of metal on a spring that you slide to use it, so that's pretty annoying especially if you're trying to unload something slowly using this come along. Just buy the Harbor Freight one. It's way better and saved me when I tried to use this hunk of garbage. Also, the line is very short. Probably only 8 feet, despite advertising more. ... show more

It sounds as though people are unaware how to release the cable to pull it out. This is how it's done: Slide the hook on the spring over 1/2" to the other side, and there you have it. Easy as pie! Otherwise haven't used it in order to give a proper review.

Starting with the instruction manual this product was poorly designed.it was difficult to reverse the direction and the cable got jammed in the pulley multiple times when fully engaged.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!! My first impression upon opening the box was that this item was made in a Chinese toy factory. It's lightweight and it has several EXTREMELY sharp edges! (don't even THINK about using this if you aren't wearing leather gloves) The spring clips on the hooks are WORTHLESS because each of them bent the first time I connected the hooks to something. Halfway through using it for the first (and ONLY) time one of the nuts came off, causing part of it to come apart. I was hoping it would work well enough to last through the first job, and it did, but barely. If this is what one should expect for $50 then you'd better plan on paying AT LEAST $100 for one! ... show more
