I've a metal, 6 panel exterior door separating my living room from the basement stairway and keep it closed in the winter. I took the door off, put it on some sawhorses outside and used a 4" angle grinder to cut the hole on each side. I was careful with my measurements and the installation turned out well. I offset it to allow the screws to fall on the flat parts of the door (not the panels) and used a little white silicone to fill the gaps where the panels are. It took a couple of weeks for Bobby to get used to it, but with some encouragement (and a few whacks on the snare of the drum kit downstairs) he learned how to get through it. I researched the right height, which is the height of their belly. The magnetic detent and weather stripping is a great design. The tinted door is pretty neat as well. Never had any experience with such items. Installed inside the house from a corridor into a laundry room. At the last moment decided to put through the wall instead of the door. It is quite easy to do. Although, before you put all the screws in, make sure the door opens easily. My first time everything looked great, but the opening I cut was slightly tight, that made the door getting stuck. After I took it out and slightly widened the opening, everything worked great. Love the magnet that keeps it closed. Small one-year old cat learned how to use it in one day. She was actually excited to go through the cut hole in the wall, even before I installed the door. Needed two additional segments for the wall. Make sure you check the chart that tells you how many extensions you'll need based on the wall thickness. ... show more

After looking at many models and reviews I decided to pull the trigger on this one. Pros: The installation was fairly simple. As with most doors, its recommended you removed the door and you'll have to measure and balance so the cat door isn't crooked. The provided cutout was very helpful for tracing where to jigsaw (a decent jigsaw is essential). The door itself seems to be of good quality, especially considering the price. I like how snuggly it closes and how little air can come through. It took our cat several weeks to get use to the idea of using the door but with practice, patience, and persistence he learned to use it. The door also has one of the best visual designs I've seen (of course my door in question is white). Cons: The lock button/mechanism is OK but not great. It feels a little cheap and awkward at times but it still functions appropriately. Unfortunately, this model can only be locked or unlocked. Many doors have 4-way locking that allows the cat in but not out. Was this as big as deal as I thought? Not really. When I want the cat to go down he follows or I put him inside. When I want to get him out I unlock the door. The only other thing I would change is I would flip the design or be able to lock from either side. The side that is more flush with the door (the better looking side) doesn't have access to the lock. Being a visually picky person I put the door on 'backwards' and it works fine. I bought this so my cat could easily go up and down from our basement without leaving the door propped open. It was easy to install, my husband removed the door from the hindges to make it easier. We have a hollow core basement door and the liner fit perfectly. We did not have to make any adjustments. I love that this has a locking feature, so that when we have family parties and dont want to worry about the cat jumping on the tables of food we can put him in the basment and be worry free! My cat is 14lbs and he fits thru with no problem. If he was to get any fatter though we might run into a problem but he doesnt struggle at all.... Only thing is getting him use to it. Right now we have to leave the door flap tied up and open because he will not push the door himself yet. We are hoping soon he will get use to it, but even now, we have it propped on the inside and dont even notice it. I am very pleased with this and it looks great on our white door! ... show more

Easy to install. Works great. We went ahead and took the door off just because we don't need it indoors. Still looks nice. We will be buying another one. It's awesome to be able to keep the doors shut (keeping the dogs and children out) but my cat having constant access without scratching at the door or pulling the carpet up digging under it. If you have a really fat cat I could see an issue but regular cats should be good to go. good quality for the price. ... show more

The door is really nice. and I like it a lot. I did need the liner(s) because I put it in a wall so that my cat won't scream at 4am anymore to be let out of the room for water. Since you have to have them for a wall I will tell you that if you have standard interior wall you will need TWO (2) liners. It's really annoying and I will give the liners themselves 1 star for this because it is really ridiculous. Furthermore, in order to get them to fit in a standard wall you have to cut 1.25 sections off one of the liner. That might not make sense until you get the item but there are 3 grooves in each liner you will have to saw off 1.25 of those grooves for the liner and door to fit nicely in a standard size interior wall. I initially only did 1 groove because I was like "how bad could it be, I mean the grooves should be guide" WRONG - they are not and I really think that the designers need to reevaluate the liners so that you only need to buy one liner for a standard wall size and also set the groove better (or remove them completely) so that they will have a greater benefit (or less confusion for the customer). ... show more
