I bought this gate for the 2 cats, a brother and sister we are fixing to bring home in a month. I am in the process of turning the extra bedroom into a cat room that will be just for them. A safe place while they adjust to a new home as they are already 6-7years old and have spent most of their lives living with my mother and stepfather. While they are used to us, and our dog as we house/cat sit every year when they go on vacation, they will still have an adjustment to make with new surroundings. They both have had issues with the other cats that have slowly gotten worse over the years, basically they only like each other and are inseparable so we think this will be a happiest situation for them in the long run as we haven't had a cat here for years and my sons, who are the younger of my 3 kids are almost 13. I love that this gate has the cat door that will slow them to come and go without our large dog being able to follow, or to get to the litter box area and food area. We have installed cat shelves and stuff around the house as well as the sister is a serious climber and my mother is tired of her getting up in their cabinets and stuff. This gate is a step above the old walk through gate i had when my kids were little, it opens much easier and I really liked that they had the plastic cap things that anchor to the doorframe, the paint in the frame still shows the paint missing from the old gate just going up against it. It only took about 10-15mins from start to finish. The price was a big part of why we chose this one as well as the pet door. This was an affordable option that served ever need. Allowing the cats to come and go while being easy enough for me to go into the room daily to clean and refresh everything needed while keeping our 75lb bully girl outof the cat food and litter boxes. Not posting pics as the gate looks the same as in pictures... Overall, I am happy with this purchase and would recommend this product to others looking for something similar. ... show more

I bought this for an upcoming move to let my dog out the back without removing the gate but I wish I got it sooner. My cats are getting older and they just don't like hopping over it anymore. The mini doorway is wide enough even my 17lb boy walks through easily. And my petite female can slip through the side if she wants. I had to use a hammer to insert the spring-loaded nail through the hinge. I was worried it wouldn't go through at all. I wouldn't consider my hallway wide (39.5") but I still felt the need to mount it along a doorway to have a tighter fit. Another extender would have helped. This is NOT a baby gate so I'm not rating it like one. A toddler could knock this over, probably figure out the opening mechanism, or even squeeze through the cat door. I only recommend this for PETS. Particularly ones that respect boundaries. My beagle could knock it over if he wanted but he knows better. Wish I could pop the cat door off it's hinges but it's in there tight. ... show more

This gate is exactly what I needed to keep the dog away from the part of the house that has my cat's food and litter box. I used a Velcro tie to keep the cat door open to make it easier for the cat. I had another doggie gate that was just for the dog, but I needed one that would let the cat gain entrance and also keep the dog out. The other gate was easier to open and close, so it took some getting used to needing to push the button to open this one. But I got over it and I'm happy with this gate. ... show more

This gate is lightweight, thin profile, nice looking, and sturdy construction. I purchased one, and then a second one a few weeks later. It came with an extension which gave me the option to use it on a wider entrance. The best feature and deciding factor for me was having the small pet gate option because I have cats. Whether or not you need this feature, it is not a bad option to have given that the product is reasonably priced and competitive with others of similar construction that do not include the pet gate. The main gate and small pet gate can be configured to swing in either direction. The pet gate might not be perfect right out of the box for everyone. I needed the small pet gate to allow the cats to get through while keeping the dogs away from them while they eat or sleep in their own private space. The problem is that I have a small dog that can squeeze through small openings almost as easily as the cats can also. To mitigate the issue as you can see in the photos, I taped a half inch piece of foam to keep the small pet gate open 3.75 inches wide, and a zip tie to keep it locked in that position. This size entrance is enough for my cats to squeeze through, but narrow enough that the dog cannot follow them and disturb when they want to be left alone. Anyone can adapt the same concept to make it a little wider or narrower to suite their needs. *** To the product manufacturers if you are listening ... An even better solution is simple and inexpensive for you to manufacture. Simply make the small pet gate a sliding door instead of a swinging gate. You can weld a couple of "U" shaped horizontal brackets (top and bottom) to use as tracks where the small pet door can slide to the desired opening size. Then place a screw on one of the brackets which will allow the user to tighten and lock it at the desired position. I have no doubt this will make the gate a much better product and increase sales. As much as I might like the product, the invention that I had to adapt to it as seen in the photos is functional but I don't like how it looks in my home. It can also be a trip hazard if waking to close to the gate. In addition, if I would have locked the small gate in the opposite direction, then I would not be able to close the main bedroom door because the small gate would be in the way. None of these would be an issue with a sliding door, and the gate would be more aesthetically pleasing in my home. *** If you are considering my design suggestion, I would be more than happy to beta test and review *** ... show more

    • Keeps dog out, but allows cats in.
This worked great to keep my dog out of the basement. He likes to get into the cat litter. But it allows my cats access. It was very easy to install. I have one side on a railing so used shims to make a flat surface. I will buy another for my deck. Reasonably priced and great quality.
