**UPDATE** February, 2023- After writing the rather harsh review below and emailing CarLock, my device was updated and the cell network it talks to was changed. After that my CarLock has been working exactly as advertised. I have been paying for the service and will continue to do so. The system does a great job tracking my cars location and movement. It’s been spot on since the changes. If I still have one gripe, it’s the tag. That little thing is kind of hit or miss but it’s really not that big of a deal for me. It’s still in my center console but I have it turned off in the app. I’m changing my rating to 5 stars! To any buyers: If you have connection issues with your device when you first get it, give CarLock a chance to fix it remotely. It may take a few days but chances are they will get it to work. As of this update, I would buy it again and will recommend it to others. ***Below is my initial review based on my first week or so of having the device in my car*** I purchased this device based on the numerous rave reviews on YouTube. It was shipped very quickly and it was very easy to install. The first two days were impressive. It tracked my car for several trips and was spot on. That’s where the positives end. It was purchased to protect my car on a cross country trip to the west coast. After two days of no issues the problems started. First I left my work and it tracked me for about a block and a half then just stopped. According to the app my car was sitting two blocks from my work while I’m staring at it in my driveway 30 miles from work. No amount of app shut down, phone reboot tricks worked. My car was two block from work. Getting more and more frustrated I drove the car around the block to see if it would unstick itself but no luck. Finally I took the device apart and removed and reinserted the SIM card. That seemed to unstick it. Next morning we leave on our trip. We’ll…you guessed it. It only tracked the car for the first sections of our trip. After each stop it seemed to catch up but then would only track for part of the drive. I’m so frustrated!!! As I write this, I’m in my hotel room LOOKING at my car out the window but according to CarLock it’s parked on the highway around 120 miles away. Already pulled and reinserted the sim to no luck. As far as customer service…NO PHONE NUMBER AT ALL. Only way to contact them is via email. You can bet I sent an email and the response was automated with some mechanic link that did not remotely help and that I would hear back from a rep within 24hrs but weekend and holidays are excluded. Guess what…it’s Saturday today. Right now I’m sooooo done with this piece of junk. I’m willing to give them a chance to fix my issues but it better be a solid fix. Final thought. Awesome idea. UPDATE: NOT in the instructions or the help section of the app, but onliine: Best optimum results is the unit "pointing vertical label side up". I suggest getting the extension or splitter is required. Once installed, go to an open lot and drive in a circle about 3 - 5 times. this insures the device sees at least 3 satellites for accuracy. If using the extension, check your car's orientation on the map screen. If backwards, turn the carlock around where you mounted it. Buildings, trees, reflections will cause gps readings to be off. But if you drive around, Carlock will learn where the visible satellites are. This is true of any small gps. Cellphone notification speed is dependent on proximity to a cell tower and cell traffic. YMWV. This is not an alarm but a notification and tracking system. The built in vibration sensor is hit or miss. Don't depend on it. Easy to install and setup. Very little instructions needed. But read what is there first. They say give the device at least 7 days to learn your car, where you park it, and how you drive. This is important as every vehicle is built different, handles vibration different, and moves differently. The monitored circle sizes should be smaller than the two provided. I know gps and cellular location accuracy can be off by a few feet but the circles are too large. Add a smaller third and let us decide. Get the splitter. Do not plug into the port directly. The splitter will lock onto your OBD securely and you can hide your carlock while keeping your port accessible. Zip tie or gorilla tape the Carlock to the steering wheel column (if possible), or a metal frame under the dash for better vibration transfer. Sign up for the plus plan monthly or yearly. The basic gives updates every 30 seconds. Plus is every 15 seconds. Worth the extra $2 a month. Better realtime tracking updates and displaying precise turns.     • A great addition to deter theft

To start with, we own a Ford F350 truck which is stored with our RV in storage not too far from where we live. Back in October, there was an attempted theft which cost us over $2000 to fix. I was looking for anti theft alternatives that could perhaps alert me should this happen again in the future and ran across the Carlock system. As most people do, I did my research and read the reviews and honestly said to myself, I would give it a try but not hold m breath. I could've gone with getting a really good alarm, but we were advised that the thieves cut wires and cause more damage to shut it off therefore rendering it useless. We decided to purchase the Carlock system with the OBD port, 1 sensor and the Carlock tag 2.0. I made sure to read all of the instructions to ensure the unit would activate being that our vehicle is primarily in the storage unit. One thing I need to let everyone know, is that you do need to drive your vehicle around to allow the system to calibrate and be as accurate as possible. Once installed and activated, I was really impressed on how the unit functions. In reading the instructions, I felt comfort knowing that if the OBD unit is removed, the unit will alert you and will still track the vehicle location for at least 20 min. We tested it several times too. I had my wife drive to the storage unit and attempt to open the truck and sure enough, we received the alert. I am now going to purchase additional sensors along with the OBD port clone, so I can hide the unit. So far, I am really glad I got it. There are other features the Carlock system provides but I wont be able to remark until I use it for a long period of time while the vehicle is in motion. I hope this short review helps you decide if this will work for you. I also installed an XL Club and added some faux LED alarm lights from Amazon. Hopefully, this is enough to at a minimum try and deter these thieves who don't care about the hard working people. ... show more
