  • Works properly now
For being a gps this thing doesn't find way too many addresses. And they aren't even weird addresses, they're just normal business addresses that are on Google maps. -Updated to five stars because I can now send the gps addresses from my phone. It never worked before and then one day I tried again and it worked so that's been very helpful. I've had this garmin for almost two months now and I drive a semi truck so I put a lot of addresses into it. When it finds them it's great. I do make sure to keep it updated. This is my only complaint and the only reason for two stars. ... show more

  • Garmin is the superior GPS
You can make the argument that Rand McNally makes a GPS that is “just as good if not better.” I’ve used both, ran them side by side across the country. I, personally, would say the Rand McNally are just as good in regards to mapping. Only because they both are pretty good but both will also make mistakes. I did have some issues with the Rand McNally blacking out at random, and freezing up. Tech support was difficult to get hold of and I got the typical “did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?” So I exchanged it and still had some issues and decided to stay with Garmin. What sets Garmin above others, in my opinion, is the quality/reliability of the product and their customer service. I had a unit go out on me after 5 years of constant use. When I called in (initially for tech support) I was greeted by an English speaking American. So much easier to communicate with each other the information needed to resolve the issue. When all was said and done, my old gps was toast but my new one was on my doorstep within just a couple days. Made in America, employing Americans and standing behind their product is what makes me a loyal Garmin customer. ... show more

  • New Motor Coach Driver - wanted a professional driver GPS for peace of mind (bridge heights, etc.)
I've been using this for over a month now and am still learning. I use the phone app to send destination info via Bluetooth and that works great. I purchased (about $20) the annual subscription to have my phone via Bluetooth to send speeding cameras and red light cameras info, and despite an hour on the phone with Garmin customer support (very professional) and my GPS showing it "should" be indicating all cameras, it still doesn't work, so now I'm just looking for another hour+ I can spend on the phone to get it to work. Waze does it just as well, so sometimes I drive my motor coach bus (50+) passengers using both the Garmin GPS AND my cell phone for Waze or Google Maps. I shouldn't have to do that, but it is what it is. If anything, it is back up to a backup. Also, the battery is marginal. When using it, you can only use it for about 20 to 30 minutes before it runs out of power. I have it plugged into a cigarette lighter, but those are broken on some buses, so now I need to buy a 120-volt adapter as a backup to the backup to the backup. I also carry my solar charger and my emergency jump start battery, all as backup to the backup to the backup to the backup, and so on. What a pain. Where I live, there are new toll roads on I-66 west bound outside of Washington, DC, and the Garmin map doesn't reflect it accurately. It wants me to get off of the toll lanes earlier because it doesn't seem aware that there is further down the road toll lane exit that works perfect for my destination. I basically have to ignore the Garmin. I'll be in a jam if there is a wreck in the express lanes up ahead, but I'll have to take that risk. Maybe there is something in the algorithm that encourages you to get out of the toll lanes if there is no discernable difference between the toll lane and the regular lanes, but I should be able to tell the system to use toll lanes to the max extent possible (less traffic and higher speed, plus the company wants us to use the toll lanes to the max extent possible). What I really like about Garmin (also had one for my car years ago and it is probably buried in a closet somewhere) is how it shows what the lanes and signs actually look like when approaching a turn. Going from express lane to express lane vs. going from express lane to regular lanes vs. going from regular lanes to express lanes can be really confusing, especially due to the VERY POOR signage here in Virginia especially where the beltway I-495 crosses I-66. That signage is terrible, and the Garmin really helps with that. I also purchased a bracket to attach to the side window on the bus, just below the mirrors, and a case to carry it. Maybe when I use it some more, I'll be happier with it. ... show more

  • Started messing up after the first two weeks
Out of the box was a very impressive unit, lots of features to it we’re connected to live Internet, bonus that this has the ability to pair with iPhones and or iPads or Apple products that have cellular signal for Wi-Fi and not drop the signal!! I’ll make a couple other. GPS is who I won’t mention that are aggravatingly not totally compliant with Apple products for Wi-Fi.!!! With that said, I found the GPS accuracy is fairly decent, it has multiple selections to give you a final destination and or if you’re doing a route your ETA to the route stop delivery time, and it does conveniently monitor your speed as you’re driving down the road and it does provide the speed zone that you’re currently driving in! When I got my unit, the battery life was zero, it took about four hours to get a good charge into it! Now here’s the issue - after two weeks of use, I started having it issue where it started crashing, then it started getting stuck in the power cycle. You know when it turns on and turns off.! Friendly it just ultimately stopped working and was in the power cycle no matter what I did to it!! I end up calling Garmin technical support, after dealing with us for two weeks and it was right at my 30 day mark, and Garman told me to contact Amazon and have them exchange it, so as of today, January 25, 2025. I am expected to receive a replacement sometime Sunday before I head out. Now this review will stand as it is pending better performance of the replacement unit!!! As of right now, I would say buyer beware and DRIVER… stay the h*ll away from it!!! ... show more
