  • Good solid stove.
I just did a 1st burn today on my deck with this new rocket stove. I have a coffe can rocket stove I made myself and it works great but I wanted a cast iron version for longevity. First off, let me tell you rocket stoves aren't a magic fire starters. You need to build your fire carefully and tenderly as with any fire. Start the fire in the chimney with some paper and very dry, thin, small twigs and keep feeding it, slowly add larger and larger twigs. You want a good bed of coals established when you start feeding your sticks. I left some 5 inch twigs in the chimney when I started feeding sticks in the feeding chamber. It takes some practice to get the hang of a good rocket stove fire. Some things I discovered: Use thin sticks, the straighter the better. If there is a fork in the small branch, break it off and dump it in the chimney. It's better to have several long finger size sticks vs a few large sticks, at least in the beginning. Keep the feed side facing towards the wind if possible. This will create a natural bellows for the fire. Don't hesitate to add a couple pine cone size pieces of wood directly in the fire chamber occasionally. You MUST pretty constantly and continually keep feeding and pushing sticks down the feed chamber as they burn fast. After you've started your fire with dry tender, and if your larger twigs are damp, putting them into the feeding chamber will help dry them out quickly so they will burn better. This stove got over 570F with very little fuel or flames so it will easily boil water and cook food with little fuel. I didn't get it to the raging burn stage I wanted because it seemed to take longer than I anticipated and I was also trying to do some other things. Overall I am happy with it and look forward to using it. This is a heavy stove and I would not take it backpacking but I wanted this as a home stove anyway as a backup cooking option with minimal fuel. ... show more

  • Really Good Stove!
The initial stove purchased was returned, no charge to me, due to missing hardware. One of the legs was missing. I received the second stove 72 hours after returning the first stove. Otherwise, the product performs as advertised. I would advise purchasers to use cast iron pots, especially for frying. The cast iron holds and distributes heat better than regular cookware. Moreover, the stove requires a good amount, at least a large brown paper grocery bag full of sticks, twigs, etc. to cook anything other than an egg or two. I would like to see the manufacturer include a metal rod or something to assist in manipulating the fire like other sellers. I am happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • I cooked bacon with no mess
I used the rocket stove to cook some bacon outside in some cast iron cookware. Turned out great and I didn’t have grease splatter on the counter and walls. Put some twigs and paper in the loader, light it and get ready to start cooking. Control the heat by how much fuel is burning. It was easy.

  • This is good
This little stove is very solid and well constructed. Lights easy and cooks a meal with very little fuel. It is almost too simple. It works best, in my opinion, with a large cast iron frying pan and it is stable enough to hold one. My wife thought it would be too hot for most cooking projects but that is not true. The heat adjusts rapidly up or down simply pushing in another couple of twigs or by holding back for a couple minutes. Eggs, bacon, steaks, fish, whatever I have tried to cook has gone well and it is easier and less of a hassle than firing up the barbecue or even cooking inside with a stove top. And, once again, the fuel efficiency is incredible. I can cook most things with the sticks and twigs I find laying around in the garden. ... show more

  • Works great for me
I had no problems boiling water with this rocket stove; 8 cups took about 15 minutes from fire start. I also had no problems browning hamburger in this rocket stove. Both done using a Walmart camp oven. I feel that you can cook on relatively low heat, but you can also crank up the heat when you need to. For both cooks, the stove used very little fuel - as expected. This is all perfect in my book. To do low temp cooking I fed the sticks in from the bottom of the "J" and when I wanted to blast the heat to boil the water I put the sticks in vertically from the top of the "J". Some difficulties I did notice when using this stove, it is pretty easy to clog up the air flow and kill the flame, you need to be mindful of that and may need to use a stick to move some embers around every once in a while / remove some embers with a metal tool, maybe. If you are only cooking for a very short time this probably won't be a big issue, though. The other thing is the ashes / red hot embers leak out through the air vent in the bottom, you have to put this on something that is fire safe, like a patio stone maybe, something like that and still be mindful of what your embers are doing. Mine did come with all the parts it should have, but on one of the legs the thumbscrew won't go all the way in to hold the leg tight. This should be a simple fix when I get around to it. It's not a bother to me right now, though. I suppose it's not perfect, but it does what it's supposed to do relatively easily. I am very confident giving the Bruntmor Camping Gear Rocket Stove 5 stars. ... show more
