    • Good, but not great.
This looper has great sound and a lot of features built in, but NO, on/off switch! Really, Boss? I am not able to leave it hooked up on my pedalboard, with all the other pedals, unless I want to have the display on and a constant blinking light, whether I am using it or not. I would have to unplug the outlet cable and reroute the cables back to the amp, bypassing the unit. It does have pass thru, so long as you don't mind having it on, all the time. I like everything else, so I'll keep it, but an on/off switch should have been a no brainer for the pedal. ... show more

    • Needs up one loop then down one loop functionality.
This pedal has 99 loops that you can use. One of the options is to increase or decrease the loop. I.e., it allow you to start in loop 1 then advance to loop 2 and so on. It would be nice if it had an option to advance a loop then go back a loop. Start on 1 then go to 2 then back to 1. It would also be nice if there were some country drum beats. E.g. train beat. This is a very good looper pedal. I bought a Roland FS-7 foot switch which makes this even better. ... show more

    • Decent compact looper station
Things to learn with this one. Very versatile. Much more to it than my old RC-1. You may find yourself watching some youtube videos on how use all the features of this pedal, but they are not really complicated. I took notes when watching the videos so if I forget how to get somewhere on the menu screen I can just look at my notes quick. You will want to order in a power supply because the 9v batteries only last a couple hours in this thing. Keep in mind this is very compact. If you want more control with your foot, then you can add a separate foot controler for better versatility. I don't gig so I don't really need that. I can use the menu screens for whatever I need and the single footswitch is just fine. This turns on by plugging a cable into the output. I gave it 4 stars because there is one thing I really wish it had, and that is a power off switch with a pass through so you could turn it off and still play guitar through your amp without unplugging the cable from the RC-5. That's kind of a pain in the butt, but otherwise I'd throw 5 stars at it. ... show more

I never use it. The drum beats are a ot of the same with nothing that I would use. There are many functions, but I don't have the patience to learn how to use it. So it sits unused. This is my second one. I sold the other because I didn't have the patience to learn that one either.

    • Limited midi over USB
It does not transmit full midi over USB, cannot sync midi clock over USB without glitches, need to use the proprietary Boss midi cables, otherwise it works perfectly and sounds great.

    • Great little looper! Drum machine is good fun
Upgraded from an RC-1 and the drum machine is a game changer! Wish I could program the drums externally and import them into the pedal, but alas.. at least the drum patterns and kits sound pretty good! Although the pedal advertises the ability to upload backing tracks into the pedal to play along with, if you’re running this into an amp (which you probably are), any straight .wav backing track is gonna sound pretty terrible! You can kind of get away with uploading and playing back drum loops, however. The digital screen is pretty awesome, but you’ll still need the manual handy to make sense of the features! Also, you can name your loops, but typing in this thing is a pain and there’s no way to do it externally, as far as I know. ... show more

Amazing loop station. took a while to get the start/stop timing down, but works well and as described. The long high-capacity memory is perfect for adding tracks after tracks to the same loop!
