  • Well-built, effective heater
Style: Heater
I bought this to keep some plants warm and a pressure washer heated over the winter (so I could use over the winter as I don't have an indoor heated storage space. I used it with one of the Eagle Peak greenhouses sold here. The heater is very substantial, well-built, quiet, and puts out a lot of air (and heat). I was surprised by how well it worked. By itself, the heater maintained the space +/- 5-7 degrees F, temps also increased during the day with solar gain. The heater, by itself, didn't account for this so the temperature range increased +7 degrees F during the day. If you're ok with a daily temp variance of 7-15 degrees F when used around freezing (hasn't been really cold here yet) then you won't need the extra digital thermostat. But using the optional thermostat provided an amazing level of accuracy. I measured +/- .3 degrees F using a sensor push remote thermostat over several hours time with it. Photos attached. First one without, 2nd one with the thermostat. Can't comment on the longevity because I've only had it a few days, but I think it will last many years from the way it's built. Definitely recommend. Only 4 stars because of the wide temp variance without the optional thermostat. If you need precise control definitely get the thermostat. ... show more

  • Didn't do much
Style: Heater
Couldn't really tell if it did anything. Air barely moved, temp was warm not hot. Blow dryer might warm the green house quicker.

  • Well Built, Good Value
Style: Heater
I've been wanting to try and do greenhouse growing year round for quite a while. I started by heating a big garbage can full of water, hoping that it would act like a heat sink and allow the greenhouse to stay warm without costing me an arm and a leg. This did not really work as well as I had liked with temps dipping down into the 30's when it was in the 20's. I had my eye on the Palma heater with the digital thermostat, but it felt like that was just too much to spend to grow a little lettuce and keep my worm box from freezing. The version I ended up buying was < $100 and is called the Bio Green PAL 2.0 RAW. The RAW part meaning that it simply has a dial for temperature adjustment. I have a digital thermometer in the greenhouse and it tracks low/high temps from the last time you did a reset. I reset it after installing this heater and have found that at level 3 on the dial I am able to keep the greenhouse between about 48° and 52° so the built-in thermostat does a very good job, or at least good enough for me. I think you will appreciate this heater in a greenhouse or to heat a garage or other non-heated area that you might wish to utilize more fully. ... show more

  • Excellent Greenhouse Heater
Style: Heater
I owned a plant nursery way back when, so I know a little about horizontal airflow and circulation. This product does just that and is outstanding for the home gardener. I use this in an 8x5 greenhouse wrapped in 6 mil plastic, and I sleep easier at night knowing that my most prized plants are in a safe (warm) environment. This heater is not only built solidly, but it's also efficient and doesn't pull too much power. — If I ever decide to expand my greenhouse, I will most certainly include this product. ... show more

  • Reasonable for a garage... given the right approach
Style: Heater
This heater seems rather weak as far as heat and airflow, but I am actually surprised how well it works in a garage. Granted, those using it in a greenhouse seem to find it too weak for their use, but I don't necessarily agree when used in a garage. I am satisfied. My garage is a standard two-car with three insulated walls: Sides and back. The back wall is attached to the house. The sides have outer walls that are out in the weather. Also, there is minimal insulation within those three sides and they are dry walled within the garage. My overhead door is double-wide metal with no insulation at all. That being said, good luck bringing a sub-freezing garage to a reasonable temperature in a reasonable amount of time with this heater. You'll need luck. HOWEVER, it's a very usable heater and at its best when maintaining a consistent temperature within a closed garage through the highs and lows of days and nights. I have been able to maintain a constant 50 degree temperature in the garage with single digit outside temperatures at night. Of course, i brought the garage to 50 degrees prior to sub-zero temperatures, but it maintains 50 degrees at night even when the temperatures are near 0 F. I don't understand or use the internal thermostat, since it isn't calibrated and has no temperature setting markings. Instead, I "max it out" (fully clockwise) and use an external, digitally controlled thermostat. Near 0 degrees Fahrenheit, the heater runs most all the time, but it will actually maintain 50 degrees in the garage. When it's warmer out, the heater will cycle on and off periodically (via the external thermostat) to maintain the temperature within the garage. If you have reasonable garage insulation on three sides (even if the overhead door isn't), and you don't mind keeping the garage temperatures around 50 degrees or less in sub-freezing weather, this heater WILL work. That is, provided you go into the coldest temperatures with the heater already maintaining the desired temperature within the garage. I am referring to a double garage. I suspect this heater would work even better in a single garage. Be sure to use a programmable, external digital thermostat with the one on the heater turned to the max (unless you understand the use of the built-in thermostat). Assuming a kW/hr cost of 15 cents after taxes applied (typical in the US), this 1.5 kW heater running 24 hours straight would use 36 kW/hr So, for each 24 hours of use, it'd cost you about 36x.15 = $5.40 in electricity. ... show more

  • Great Little Heater
Style: Heater
The photo shows how my cat loves the temporary greenhouse near Austin, Texas and the two heaters rated in the distance by the tree. I have two heaters because of the size of the greenhouse as I keep the temps 42º minimum and it will maintain the temp even in the single digits outside. It does take a while for them to warm up, but once they're running, it's hot. I keep a fan behind them to help circulate residual heat after they shut down. I like that I can splash them with the water hose when I water the tree and not worry it's going to hurt the units. ... show more
