My Scenario: 3-Day Canoe float and camping trip in the mountains. Canoe limits weight, space and storage available for camping gear. A cheap folding camp chairs from Wal-mart wasn't going to cut it. My Requirements: (Top Priorities to Mindful Considerations) 1. Comfort; Majority of time was sitting around a campfire. Needed to be comfortable for a long sit. 2. Heavy-Duty Construction; I'm 6'3, 270 lbs. I wanted a heavy-duty chair that wouldn't buckle under continual sitting, slouching and standing stress. Needed more than a 225 lbs capacity. I required metal legs instead of cheap fiberglass poles held together my a single screw. All poles are tethered together with heavy bungee cords for easy setup. No lost poles or missing pieces. 3. Sitting Height; I have long legs. I wanted a chair that didn't make me feel like i had to fully squat up and down to sit and stand. Short height seemed to be the common denominator amongst backpacking chair reviews. 4. Compact; I wanted a chair that would collapse down to fit inside a dry-bag, that would fit inside my canoe. Standard camping chairs are too bulky for this and backpacking chairs seemed too weak. 5. Weight; This was not a backpacking hike excursion, so I opted for comfort over weight. Reviews stated that it rates one of the heaviest "backpacking" chairs in its category. A taller frame and metal poles wouldn't be ideal for hiking for miles, but I was just needing something small enough for a canoe bag and heavy enough to support my big butt. 6. Setup; I wasn't so much concerned with the time it takes to setup a camping chair. A little bit more setup time than a standard pop and sit chair, but nothing terrible. 2-3 extra minutes to get it all fitted together. Nothing that would delay you from anything. Review: Marvelous chair! Debated whether it was worth spending $150 on a chair. Sooooo worth it. I've bought the economy stuff before and paid the price. Buy nice or buy twice! Exceeded all my requirements. - Super comfortable for a big man. Design works like a sling for your butt. High backrest relieves stress on the lower back. Just tall enough to rest your head back without it dangling off the back. - Construction was beyond solid. Aluminum material and non-crossed leg design made it super sturdy. No breakable fiberglass. Even on uneven ground, the design succeeded wonderfully. Rubber foot stoppers kept the chair legs from constantly sinking into the ground when I was seated. Each time I sat in the thing, I liked the feeling of being up off the ground. Extra back support was veeeery nice. The support holes seemed beefier then other chairs. I was worried the stitching wouldn't hold up after continual sitting and standing, but it held up like a champ. - Collapsed small enough to fit inside my canoe dry-bag, but was large enough that I could sit in comfort around a campfire. Probably not the ideal choice for hard backpacking cause of its weight, but it was light enough to use if I had too. Comfort over weight was my personal choice trade-off. - Setup was really easily and intuitive. Everything is held together with strong bungee shock cords, so there's no chance of using a wrong pole someplace. All poles snapped into place very easily. Maaaybe took a few more minutes to setup than your average camping chair, but totally worth it for how small it breaks down. ... show more

I'm an avid glamper, spending more than 50 days a year sleeping and hanging out in a tent, often just as the woods at home but also at various campsites in the Northeast. I think I enjoy setting up camp as much as I enjoy camping. This year I decided to upgrade my gear and I've searched for years for a chair that is packable for car camping, comfortable and HIGH enough off the ground that I can eat at a camp table. They make most large tables for prep, not for eating at. This one is finally high enough that I don't feel like a 5 year old at the Thanksgiving table. And it's high enough and stable enough that visitors to my campsite that are larger or have bad knees can push themselves up easily. I also have an issue with chairs that lean back so far, they seem to want to me take a nap. And many seats are slanted back and sunken at the back of the chair. The Big Six leans slightly back and has a horizontal seat that makes it comfy to read or tend to a campfire without almost getting out of the chair. But I'll admit, the selling point was the wood "cookies" (slices) on the chair. I am a woodworker and work at a forestry college so I really like the design. I think they stopped making this design but have some nice trout designs and basic colors. I just ordered the Soul Kitchen table to add to my themed summer tent at home. I live in a tiny house and it becomes my summer office and sleeping quarters during the hot weather to expand my space. Can't go wrong with Big Agnes! ... show more

Needed to save space for a month long road trip and standard camping chairs just take up too much space. I have used a Helinox chair for many years. I take it with me everywhere, especially when I am moto-camping or out on my atv, or really just adventuring. However, as I have aged it has become harder to get out of that small chair so I was on the lookout for a taller version. I bought a knock-off and found it to be very uncomfortable and it really did not roll up that small. Then I found the Big Agnes. Comfortable, rolls up smaller than the Helinox but is of course longer. This is an excellent chair and I have now bought another for my brother as a gift and my buddy who took the knock off model wants one of these. Worth the money in my opinion. ... show more

The chair frame is easy and quick to assemble. Like the absence of plastic connectors. BUT the fabric requires too much effort to stretch to the final attachment point. Just requires too much strength for either my wife or I to assemble.

You pay a little more. But you get what you pay for. I have a bad back, and this chair is amazingly comfortable. For extended sitting, I do add something for lumbar support. But with that, I can sit for hours. Very few chairs - of any kind - provide that level of comfort.
