Top Amazon Reviews

  • Does exactly what it is intended to do
Size: 24in X 12ft
Hopefully this review will answer some of the questions I have seen posted about this product. We bought this for an area of our home in Florida that faces directly East and gets direct sun as soon as the sun comes up. By late morning that room becomes warm and by afternoon it's the most uncomfortable room in our home. We have a faux wood 2 inch blind as well as blackout drapes but they weren't doing enough to help with the heat. First off, as noted in product title, this film will provide DAYTIME privacy. From the outside, it just appears as a bluish mirror and you cannot see into the room at all unless you are AT the window cupping your hands around your eyes to shield out the natural daylight. Once it is dark, if a light is on in the room, you CAN see into the room. It does seem to lessen the heat coming through the glass. I did not get as scientific as some people and use a thermometer but we have paned windows so I had to do each one individually. I started at the top and as I was working noticed far less heat coming through on the panes I had already covered. Onto the installation....I can't stress enough. Follow the directions. They're not long or difficult to understand. Take a few minutes to read over them before starting. The film came with a little boxcutter type knife and a squeegee. I also purchased the Gila installation kit that had the spray, a cutter, and squeegee. I preferred the knife that came with the film but the squeegee that came with the Gila kit. I found that the most important thing for successful installation is to make sure your windows are spotless. Cleaning them with spray and a lint free cloth was not enough. I went over them with a razor to remove tiny, almost invisible specks of who knows what that were stuck to the glass. Then another round of glass cleaner and the lint free cloth. Much like your cell phone or tablet, if you apply the film over even a speck of dust it leaves a tiny bubble that you cannot remove. I cut all of the pieces I needed ahead of time, leaving the recommended extra inch on each to trim away. I used painter's tape to separated the backing from the film but already sprayed the pane I was working with some solution. As I peeled away the backing, I would spray down the exposed area of film to help keep it from curling and sticking to itself. It did still stick a little bit a couple of times but I was able to easily pull it apart and it had no negative effect on appearance when applied. Once backing was off, I started by securing the top edge a little above the window pane and then smoothing it down. At this point, there are lots of bubbles but don't worry about it. I used the squeegee to smooth it out somewhat and then trimmed excess by running cutter directly along the edge of the window pane. Then I went to town smoothing out all the bubbles and excess spray. When you think there are no bubbles left, start in the middle and firmly squeegee all the way up and all the way down again several times because there is still air in there that you may not see. Your film may look a little cloudy at this point but it will clear up as it dries and adhesive sets. One final note, I was taken aback that it seemed that I would be applying this with the silver/mirror side facing INTO the room. That really is the way it is supposed to be and after thinking about it, it makes sense from the standpoint of a radiant barrier concept. I had been looking at putting radiant barrier material in our attic on the roofline and the reflective side is supposed to be facing the air/open area. I guess this works on that same concept. On one hand, it was kind of a pain to have to do each individual window pane but it made it pretty easy for it to be a one person job. If you are doing entire windows or doors with one piece, I would definitely recommend you have another person to help you out. ... show more

  • Looks great, cuts down on the glare and heat.
Size: 36in X 14ft
This makes a huge difference in the house. My west facing side has a lot of windows, which means a lot of heat and too much light in the spring and summer. This definitely cuts out so much of that. It looks great from the outside. If you're doing a large window, you should probably have someone help you so that the film doesn't stick to itself. You can get it unstuck, but that often leaves a wrinkle mark on the window. Also, be sure to use a sharp cutting tool - reusing the one that comes with it too often can lead to snagging and uneven cuts. Applying it isn't hard, and is kind of fun too. You just need extra hands - not skilled ones - my six year old was just fine to help. I have already reordered this for more windows since it did such a great job with the french doors. You will see a blue tint when you look out your windows, but it is still a clear view. Outside during the day you have to plaster your face to the window to look through, so daytime privacy is great. I would definitely recommend this, and am considering putting in on all my windows, not just the west facing ones. ... show more

  • Nice color, good heat blocking, needs better packaging for shipping purposes
Size: 36in X 14ft
The blue reflective tint looks really nice from outside. The heat blocking capability works well. Good product but the packaging could have been sturdier. the long box mine came in got bent during shipping which caused a crinkle in the tint. The company inserted a paper along with the tint stating that if theres any damage to send it back and they would replace it. I decided not to send mine back and applied it with the crinkles. Its not extremely noticeable but now its not perfect either. I suggest sending it back if it gets damaged or bent. I only took away one star because of the not so sturdy packaging but the product itself is great. ... show more

  • Success!
I had twelve small garage door windows to do. The entire home improvement project went pretty well but for once in my life, but I think that it is because I actually took the time to get as prepared as possible - I think that is key to success in applying! It was just me so I didn't have an extra set of hands. The film is thicker than I imagined so it was fairly easy to handle. One trick I discovered is that after I began to separate the film using two pieces of tape, I placed the piece of tape still sticking to the clear backing on the garage door or frame near the window. This gave me a free hand to pick up the spray bottle and spray the film as I continued to pull the other piece of tape holding the film. The west facing garage was noticeably cooler later in the afternoon. Seems to have applied well the next morning. One thing, I can see through this better than I thought so even though it is dark, you can still see just fine through it during the day from the inside out. From the outside, it is reflective and you can't see in. At night, it's a little harder to see through but still possible if your street is lit or there is an outside light. ... show more
