  • Tame your bbq.
A lot of people have problems with not enough heat when they barbecue. My problem is too much heat. My Ducane Affinity 3 burner BBQ was flash burning everything that I laid down on the grate. You had to be real attentive otherwise all meats would get over charred on the outside and over cooked. I love that BBQ, it's real basic, uncomplicated and well built and the controls have a wide range of adjustment but what good do the adjustments do if one has to completely shut down 2 of 3 burners to avoid turning a steak or a burger into a lump of coal? After a little reading on the www I was convinced that installing a needle valve down stream from the regulator was the proper solution. I'm reviewing the Bayou Classic Brass Control valve to let all readers know that this indeed did the trick. After installing this little brass valve I've got unlimited possibilities of adjustment of my BBQ. When I want to roast and peel chilies I can turn it up or when I want to slow cook a pork butt I can turn it down. Using brass adapters, that you can buy at a car parts store, and a bit of Teflon tape this control valve is installed on the "out" side of your BBQ regulator. After installation fully open your gas tank and using soapy water in a cheap spray bottle check for leaks, Then open the Bayou Classic valve a half turn. Light your BBQ. Set your BBQ controls to high. Let it get up to temperature and then fine tune your high temp by either opening or closing the Bayou Classic valve. Get true heat adjustment of your BBQ by installing this needle valve. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Works As Advertised
Before, I could not get my propane smoker below 240 degrees even at the lowest knob setting. With this valve, a separate propane regulator, a separate hose and a couple of brass fittings, I am now able to get temps below 200 degrees. Very happy with this purchase. Now getting a second valve for my propane Weber grill as the lowest temp I can get is 250 degrees. I want 225 degrees so that I can really slow smoke on the grill too. ... show more

  • Valve works great on my smoker but packaging is incorrect
Mine just arrived yesterday and to my surprise the packaging (see attached picture) states 1/8 inch mnpt inlet and 1/4 inch fnpt outlet. Which was confusing since the Amazon page description says the input and output nozzle sizes are both 1/4 inch npt. This caused me to waste a fair amount of time running around town looking for a fitting that could deal with a 1/8 inch mnpt inlet, until I finally took the valve out of the packaging and checked it against sample fittings at Lowes. Low and behold, the packaging was wrong! They are indeed both 1/4 npt (male on the inlet side, female on the outlet side). I was eventually able to get the correct fittings to mate up to the 3/8 inch flare female on the end of my existing hose and the 3/8 inch flare male on my Masterbuilt 20050614 propane smoker. (Note that I was able to find adapters for both sides of the valve on Amazon: one by Lasco and one by Anderson Metals.) I applied some yellow teflon tape to the npt fittings and the full assembly passed the soapy water test. Fire up the smoker and I am now able to control the temperature much more precisely down at the low end. Where before I struggled to keep the smoker temperature below 290 F, I am now able to run it around 240-250 no problem with the main valves set as low as possible and using the needle valve for fine control. ... show more

  • Is as advertised and worked perfectly
Worked perfectly.. I have a propane fired meat smoker that I had issues with temp control on... This easy to install, in line valve gave me the fine tuning temp control I needed... I can easily hold temps from 100°-350° F temps for hours unattended... It installs on a rubber propane supply line with two inexpensive fittings and two hose clamps (available at any hardware store) in a minute and after a bit of experimentation holds temps perfectly. I'd recommend this valve to everyone wth a similar issue. ... show more

  • it works!
For propane gas regulator you will need to adapt the control valve to fit. requires 1/8 male to 1/4 female and then 1/4 male to 1/8 male for it to work. Don't forget a tube of gas line sealer.

  • You need TWO MORE adapters to make this work!!??
Why is there no mention of this anywhere? Reviewers have pics up but NEVER say what those adapters are! Not a word on Amazon or Bayou Classic about it needing more parts! Now I'm sitting here with a new grill I still can't use. And I have no idea what adapters to order! For me, so far this valve has been a poor experience. ... show more

  • Worked for reduced temp in smoker
This was purchased to reduce the heat that my propane vertical smoker produced at its lowest setting. The smoker could go no lower that 250 degrees at the lowest setting on the knob. With this valve placed just down stream of the regulator, I could further reduce the steady temp down to 200. It reduced the flame on the single burner to a setting lower than the knob alone could control. ... show more

  • Good valve but a waste of money.
Valve arrived quickly and looked to be good quality. Bought all the clamps, barb fittings and propane hose. Assembled and hooked up to tank, all good. Fired up grill and set to low on grill valve, all good. Used the bayou valve to lower flame, only difference was in last quarter turn of valve turning toward off position. As I lowered the flame to warm up grill I found that any light gust of wind blew out the flame. This would probably work well on a high flow appliance like a turkey fryer but is useless on this small flow grill. ... show more
