  • Best Ever! Update!
Size: Medium
UPDATED!!! I waited tooooo long to give in and have a dog door installed….. anyone considering one - trust me it’s worth it and then some! It’s a week and I’m truly happy, should have bought it 3 years ago! For the first time, since I’ve had dogs for a l o n g while I am Free! No longer have to worry about my dogs with their separation anxiety! Now they go in and out on their own. “I can leave the house knowing they’ll be ok without worrying about me gone… *****Hey BABONI PLEASE consider? ***** Ok back to the flaps, as I said before, they DO need to be a bit thicker or some way to fix them so they don’t buckle a little on the “sides” perhaps run a thin “bar” inside the sides of the flaps? The flap itself is fine, it’s the sides that need improvement. Just installed last week…. My original review >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> We have been with Amazon for a L O N G time, I recently installed a Baboni dog door. We were both impressed on how WELL they packed it! Came in perfect shape and it works great! I do have to mention that the flaps (others have mentioned) should be just a tad wider perhaps just a bit tougher, but this is why the dog door is sssoooo well made! I don't like bugs (phobia), but tomorrow we will 'force' train the 2 dogs through one flap. Sorry people, I had other people tell me to do it! We have 2 dogs - our Bechon/minipoo was a real trooper when we tried training her the 'right' way. Our other dog was a literal 'feral' dog and tends to be VERY sensitive and VERY fearful (long story) - I came close to considering getting the large one, but did what a friend suggested - ok 'force' him through! Guess what?! He's much better (WITH the outer flap left open) - no problem, inside too.... Tomorrow we'll 'flap' train them and we'll be all set. Thank YOU Boboni! ... show more

  • Highly Recommend! I Wish I Had A Metal Dog Door Sooner!
Size: Large
I had been buying the plastic brand dog door for about 13 years now and in that time I had to replace the entire thing 4 times as well as replace the flaps, which seemed to warp or tear in no time at all, just about every year and at times twice a year which always annoyed me. Now granted I have always had big dogs, along with my now 15 year old Chi, but it was a “large” size dog door so I expected it to hold up to said large size dogs. So when the plastic frame broke yet again this time around I happened to come across this one and decided to give it a shot after reading all the positive reviews and especially because it’s metal and not plastic. I can’t comment much on the installation as we already had the hole for the tunnel to go through the wall which is the most difficult part of the install imo and exactly why I had a contractor do it 13 years ago when the first one was installed. Also, because my own personal handyman hubby is excellent in just about every department, but not so much when it comes to drywall/woodworking stuff. Another plus for me is that this dog door is the same size as the old plastic one which made choosing it that much easier. It’s almost as if they knew I would be fed up with replacing the plastic one 😄 That being said the rest of the install wasn’t very difficult at all. I took tips from other reviewers about using longer screws for added stability as we already had it framed out with 2x4’s and had reinforced underneath the tunnel since at the time we installed the first through wall dog door we had Kane dog who was a 105 lb Bully rescue that we sadly lost to cancer 2 years ago and who I miss him every single day even though we have since welcomed two new rescues into our lives. We now have a 95 lb Great Pyrenees/Bully mix and a 55 lb Belgian Malinois/Staffordshire mix who will be putting this large dog door to the test. We also put insulation all around the tunnel, added good quality expandable weatherstripping and of course put a good sealant around the edges of the exterior side which is against vinyl siding. Also, the flaps feel thicker and heavier as well as have a stronger magnetic closure so hopefully I won’t be replacing them every year, but time will tell on that and I will be sure to update if it’s even remotely like the old ones. I haven’t had it long enough to comment on the stability of it, again time will tell, but at least I no longer have to worry about the frame cracking and breaking which leaves me very hopeful. It also wouldn’t be fair for me to speak of the energy efficiency yet because I rarely close the doors and my basement is not well insulated so it’s always cold on the unfinished side where the dog door is, but I will come back and update my review later as I am planning on using the doors now since the dogs aren’t going out as often with winter here and being forced to have unhappy walks in the freezing rain. Such pampered pups! I also purchased a second door so I could close off both sides which I think will help greatly with the efficiency, especially overnight. These metal doors are WAY better than the plastic one that came with the old dog door and have a far superior locking mechanism. Not that it would prevent someone from kicking them in if they so dared, I don’t believe any through wall dog door systems are tough enough to withstand that, but that’s when the actual dogs would come in handy. I always put something very heavy like a refrigerator (no joke) which is not easily moved through that small of a space in front of the door when the dogs go on vacation with us and I’ve never had a problem, even with the plastic door. Overall I am very happy with the switch and feel this through wall dog door system will hold up much better than the plastic brand I spent so much money on since having it and therefore I feel my purchase was well spent especially during these difficult times where most of us, at least I am, are spending less on nonessential items. I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Well built.
Size: Small
Here’s what I did to train my cat. Tape open or remove both sides of the flap and give them at least a day to stare and go through it. I put treats around it also. End of day I let one flap close but I took off the metal strip so the magnet wouldn’t work. They don’t understand they can push it, so they try to pull one corner with their paw. Eventually they discovered they can push on it. I will leave it like this for a few days and then try reinstalling the magnet. As far as using both flaps. Idk if we’ll ever get there. They don’t like not being able to see through it. I might make a flap that is transparent for them. My house exterior is block so I went to Home Depot and got a thin sheet of metal and bent it to make a tunnel extension. ... show more

Installed today. Took about an hour to complete. The template will give you about an inch of extra fitting space. I trusted I would line my cuts up closer than that and decreased the width by about 1/2 inch. That worked for me. I was able to space it so that both screws on one side went into a stud -rather than center the door between the studs and use toggle bolts. I also didn't use a bottom support since the tunnel is securely in the stud. I put side A in the wall, then tucked insulation around every space I possibly could. The tunnel comes with a metal door. I bought another metal door for the outside. My hope is that it will make the tunnel more weather tight. And although my siding has horizontal slats, I'm able to lift the outside door with the tunnel frame snug up against the house. If your siding has a more severe slant, this may not easily work for you. The flaps seem sturdy. Hopefully the additional outside cover will reduce the impact of weather on the flaps. I expect the door will be required for use one or two days a week and will provide many years of service. ... show more
