  • Works great....I'm no longer my dog's personal butler!
Size: Large
I bought this months ago but waited a while to install it. I guess I was a bit intimidated about the installation, but it really wasn't that hard. I think the most difficult part of installation is that I have stucco on the outside of my house and most of the installation videos I had seen assume a basic wood siding or wood panel exterior siding. The other thing that made me pause was I wasn't sure exactly where to put the door. My house has very low windows so putting them under a window was not an option. I also didn't want to put it in a place where people could see I had a dog door. That might be a security risk. I was able to find one location that worked and then it was simply a matter of determining that there was proper clearance and no wiring. I cut a hole small enough that repair wouldn't be too bad but yet also allowed me to determine whether the inside of the wall would be sufficient to house the dog door frame. Once I determined that my location would be big enough, I had to figure out how to cut the outside opening, which is stucco. I used all the patterns and templates provided and it worked well. I used a circular saw with a carbide blade (basically for concrete, block or mortar). That allowed me to cut the outside wall for inserting the dog door frame. This blade was only a few bucks at Home Depot. One word of advice - if you are going to be cutting stucco like I did, cover the inside opening with paper taped really well, or plastic. I didn't do that and there was a LOT of dust that was created from the saw and that dust got dispersed throughout my downstairs. Once I had the opening, I just followed the instructions provided and it works great. One thing I did though is I got some 1x2's and screwed those into the 2x4s. That created a more snug fit for the frame and it provided a more secure mounting of the door frame. It took about a day to train my dog to use the dog door instead of expecting me to be available to let him in and out at his beck and call. It's honestly been a game changer. Also makes it easier for us to be gone for longer periods of time because we know our dog can get in and out when he needs or wants. I bought an extra cover so that we can close the dog door on the inside and outside when we don't want it to be in use (overnight, for example). The purchase comes with only one cover so adding an extra cover is advisable. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. If you are the least bit handy, you should be able to self-install, making this a very affordable DIY improvement project. ... show more

  • Easy install, works great, good weather barrier
Size: Large
The first one that arrived was bent on one corner due to a failure of the interior packaging. The manufacturer really should use foam instead of just a plastic protector at each corner. The replacement thankfully arrived in good condition, however. Installation is easy as long as you are comfortable cutting a hole in your wall between two studs. I ended up reinforcing the sides of the hole with 2x4s so that I'd have a solid surface for the screws, as I didn't feel that the included butterfly screws were going to hold well just against drywall. The dogs are still getting used to using the door after a couple of days. One dog is more adventurous and has already got it, but the other still needs some assistance. Even with it getting cold outside there is no significant leakage of cold air into the house. The dual magnetic flags seem to be working well. I might possibly upgrade to an electronic door at some point, but this has been a great way to test out the concept and make sure that a dog door gives our dogs the freedom to go out and relieve themselves when they want (or even just go out and play). ... show more

  • Good Quality Dog Doors
Size: Medium
Finally got around to replacing my larger dog door, now that my big pups have been gone for a few years. I've downsized my dogs and only have 4 small dogs, so no need for that huge dog door. I had someone install this so I can't speak to how hard or easy it was to install, but it's all metal and the installer actually said he's been recommending this exact dog door to people because it's such good quality. I love that it's metal and not plastic, and the doors on both sides can either lock completely open or lock closed. I got two installed but my darling little goobers haven't been using the one in the bedroom so that one is closed on both sides. ... show more

  • An excellent well built dog door.
Size: Large
I bought this dog door based on its price and reviews. It is a very well designed and built product. I bought it despite installing it in a wall of a brick home that was thicker than the maximum wall width for this unit. I did this by lining the interior with fiberglass shower stall material which I already had from another project. The photo shows the installation with the flap removed. This is not the easiest installation but when looking at alternatives for a thick wall install that cost over $500 this seemed like a no brainer. I wish Baboni offered a thick wall version. This could be accomplished very easily by supplying the two dog doors in the narrower version with a 5 or 6 inch wide connector sleeve in the wider width which could be slid over the two end sections. This arrangement could accomodate many wall widths greater than the 7 ¾" of the standard unit . ... show more
