  • This thing really does improve frozen pizza
Size: 15 x 12 inch + Pizza Peel
I had never even heard of a pizza stone until a few months ago. A friend told me how great his new pizza stone was. Quite frankly, I thought he was feeding me a line of - well, you know. But I was interested enough to do some research, and became interested enough to buy one. After looking at several on Amazon, I chose this Augosta Pizza Stone. I tried it for the first time today, and you know what? It really does make a difference. I bought a DiGiorno Supreme Rising Crust frozen pizza. I have eaten this pizza before, and I like it. In all honesty, I have to admit that, contrary to the DiGiorno directions, I normally bake frozen pizza on a baking sheet, not directly on the oven rack. Now that I think about it, that may be one reason my oven baked pizzas don't turn out as tasty as I would like. I never thought it would make any real difference. But I now think that one reason the pizza stone works so well is that it bakes the bottom of the crust really well. The crust of a frozen pizza does not bake as thoroughly on a baking sheet. Anyway, while the pizza stone was was heating in the oven, I unwrapped the pizza and put it on the peel to thaw (something else I never heard of, but actually it is pretty handy). After the pizza stone had been heating at 500F for 30 minutes, I transferred the now thoroughly thawed pizza to the stone and let it bake 10 minutes (convection oven). The pizza truly was "supreme". Best pizza I have ever had outside a pizzeria. As good as or better than delivery, probably because delivery pizza has cooled down by the time you eat it. Better than a typical oven baked frozen pizza, probably because the stone does a better job of crisping the crust. Much better than microwaved frozen pizza for any number of reasons. It tasted absolutely like fresh pizza made in a pizzeria. I forgot to dust the peel and the stone with cornmeal, which turned out to be a minor error. The thawed pizza did not slide off the peel as easily as I had expected and the baked pizza stuck to the stone in a couple of spots. I'll remember the cornmeal next time. The stone is now stained in several spots, but that apparently is to be expected. Everything I read said not to scrub out the stains and not to use detergent on the stone. So, against my natural inclinations, the stone remains stained. As to quality, there was no unpleasant smell when I first heated the stone. I had baked a cheesecake with a graham cracker crust a couple of days earlier, and some butter had dripped down on the bottom of the oven. As the oven heated up to 500F, I could smell the butter burning, but nothing else. The peel worked great and cleaned up easily. No complaints there. ... show more

  • UNABLE TO CLEAN
Size: 15 x 12 inch + Pizza Peel
Love the heat it holds for getting a crispy crust on pizza, thats it. After cutting pizza I realuzed it wasn't done in the center. Put cut pizza back on stobe to finish cooking. The picture shows what hapoens to stone. There is no way to clean this. You cant even scrape the burnt cheese off. It is only good fir a whole pizza. Should have read ALL REVIEWS. Can't recommend to any one. Im a clean freak and I jyst wasted my money because it wont come clean. Soaked it, Brushed it and it looks like this. ... show more

  • Perfect. Just as advertised.
Size: 15 x 12 inch + Pizza Peel
Good stuff. If you're new to pizza stones (like me) I'd recommend using parchment paper so it doesn't stick. What I do is massage dough into pizza base on parchment paper over the wooden pizza peeler (adding OV). Then cook formed pizza dough on the parchment paper over the stone -- parchment paper slides on&off the peeler with the za super EZ. Then wait a bit, pull out with peeler, design pizza with toppings, put back on stone with parchment paper underneath...then after a bit can slide the parchment paper right out from underneath za. May have to use prongs or your hand to guide it....then cook on stone for crisp. 100% best za's. Good luck. ... show more
