  • Fun simple engine building game with stunning artwork
Tom V. of the Dice tower channel on YouTube does an excellent review of this game and I would highly recommend you look at this if your on the fence. Below is my personal review. Fantastic engine builder and stunning beautiful artwork on the cards. This game is extremely simple to learn. I will probably use it as a go to game when children are running around because it doesn’t require a huge amount of attention but still engaging enough for competitive board gamers. Pros: Easy to learn Art work on the box and the cards are absolutely stunning The manta tokens are really really nice (3D) Everything fits in the box very well Truly 40min-1hr play time Cons: 1. I wished there was more variety in the cards you can recruit. - Everyone starts out with the same 5 cards and then you start to buy different characters which gives it an asymmetrical note, however there are duplicates of the characters everyone can buy (about 2 each) and there are only about 10 or so different characters. The expansion to this game will help this but I still am left wanting more. 2. The cards are a bit lacking in quality. - although many many many boardgames don’t have the same material of cards that this game does I wished they were a little sturdier. Especially the location cards. I can see the edges getting bent or damaged if someone doesn’t take card inserting the card into the player board. I bought card sleeves for the character card but the location cards are a different size of card so there’s not much that can be done to protect the thin material. 3. The game could become stale after 10 or 15 times of playing - there isn’t a massive amount of depth to this game (pun intended) so for those looking for a drastically different game every time you won’t get it here. More character cards would solve this problem to some extent and there is 1 expansion with the hope of more. All in all I love this game. The cover is beautiful, the components are fantastic (with the exception of my high expectations for card material) and the game is easy to jump into. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a simple game that has elements of engine building and card and timing management. ... show more

  • Most beautiful game
Really love the design of these cards and plays really great at two players. The expansion challenges are great too!

  • Awesome board game, especially for board game couples!
If you know, you know. This is one of the funnest board games out there -- for board game junkies and newbies alike. My girlfriend and I have a blast playing against each other. Highly recommend!

  • Aqauticawesome!!!
Got as a gift for gf with the expansion. We love this game! Super easy to learn while still being a dynamic and fun experience, also seems to have pretty high repeatability.

  • Interesting and innovative card game.
Aquatica is one of the rare games that takes a new game gimmick (the sliding cards in this case) and really makes good use of it. I would recommend this game to just about anyone, whether a beginning or expert gamer. Easy to learn. Innovative mechanics that allow for interesting decisions. Just long enough. Couple caveats: The theme is pretty, but this game could have had any theme (so don’t expect an underwater adventure). Also, player interaction in the game is really limited to “who grabbed what card first.” Few production criticisms. 1) The very large main game board is basically a waste. The game can easily be played without the board. The cards played on the board essentially make three distinct rows that can be put on any coffee table, and the rules for the rows easily applied by written rule. The scoring portion of the board is comically over-sized and could have easily been reworked into a more condensed format. Scoring goals could’ve been printed on tarot-sized cards that could be shuffled and dealt every game. 2) The art quality for the locations is far better than the character art. The character art is at talented high-school level. 3) The player boards don’t allow for sleeved cards. It’s just way too tight a fit. Scrap the superfluous acre-sized main board and make the player boards a half-an inch wider to allow for sleeved cards. Sleeving cards is common practice these days. Overall, great game. Definitely keeping in my collection for a long time. ... show more

  • Great game
We are enjoying learning to play Aquatica. We get the basics but learning how to develop a strategy takes more time. Other games we enjoy are Res Arcana, Catan, and Wingspan. So if you like these games, you would probably enjoy Aquatica. Watching a video on how to play in addition to reading the directions is helpful. ... show more

  • Fun!
Sharp learning curve to understand all the symbols and game play. The video on YouTube was super helpful. After watching the video we got or. It is fun and mixes challenge and strategy. Minimal probability involved.

  • Fun game with great artwork!
My small group of board game friends and I are really enjoying Aquatica! It took us a few play-throughs to get used to the strategy and how bonus actions work, but we caught on pretty quick. The manta buff tokens are a fun element. What first attracted me to check out the game was the artwork, which is all really stunning. They have left room for an upcoming expansion, which I will certainly check out. ... show more
