I bought this for my grandson's 8th birthday and it was a big hit. The volume IS loud but, after reading the reviews about that problem, my husband and I opened up the bottom of the unit and installed a few resistors in line to the speaker. (We are engineers so we had these laying around - two 1/4W, 40 Ohms in parallel = 20 Ohm 1/2W). This cut the volume to a nice soft level. Other people just cut the line to the speaker but the music is kind of fun so I didn't want to disable it entirely.     • Pretty good toy once you get it going
Bought for my 10 yr old daughter as a Christmas gift.... she is obsessed with claw machines. It works pretty well, but was tough to get going. You have to unscrew about 10 screws to take the top off and use it for the first time. (We only keep 2 screws in it for daily use and that does the trick). Also, when I put the batteries in and went to turn it on, nothing was happening. I realized that you have to insert a coin in the slot to get it to turn on (sometimes 2 coins). As far as the volume, it’s pretty loud. I just have my daughter play with it on the carpet and that lowers the sound a bit. ... show more

    • Doesn't pick up a darn thing!
The last one we owned (purchased 15 years ago) LOOKS exactly the same as this one, down to the very last detail. Bur one HUGE difference is the quality of the product and how much its changed over the years. Mainly the claw itself is now made of cheap plastic and not metal. It's extremely WEAK and won't even pick up lightweight candy like a Tootsie Roll or small bit of taffy etc... We tried and tried for over an hour attempting to get any one piece out without success! The old machine was a three or four attempt (at most) before you would successfully get a "reward". The machine is very loud as well, but honestly that doesn't bother me (at least I always knew when they were playing with it before and could monitor the candy intake - now it doesn't matter because they will never get the candy out anyway!). A waste of money and really frustrating for both kids and their adults alike. Would NOT recommend. ... show more

It works way better than I expected. Not perfect, but surprisingly less frustration inducing than I expected. Oh, but the music gets… annoying. Wow.

    • This was really cool! Until it randomly broke!
This was one of my favorite purchases, for my kids arcade room. It was soo fun to use while it was working! There were minor glitches, and unpredictability with the claw at times, but for 50$ I thought it was well worth it. Until, less than a week after Christmas, the claw randomly decided to stop going down. It will go from side to side, back and forth, but it will no longer go down to pick anything up. I have tried troubleshooting, and figuring out the problem, but I cannot seem to find one, it just does not work. Another thing I should mention is it requires 4 either C or D batteries, which are kinda expensive... especially when the product decides to not work anymore! I am unsure if mine was faulty, or what, but I would gladly re-write this review, if I am able to get this fixed! ... show more

Our son got it on the first try. This was not for him although. I put this on my bartop and me and my wife have many shot competitions trying to be the first to get the candy. After so many shots we just flip this thing over and pour the candy out but it was fun getting there. It's not as easy as it looks so happy gaming to you all. . ... show more
