  • Excellent Portable Bass Amp with Great Sound and Features
Size: 1x10", 50-watts Color: RB 110
I have two friends that own Fender Rumble bass amps which is what this new Ampeg Rocket bass amp is meant to compete with. Super lightweight and portable. Reasonably good bass tone and volume. It can get pretty loud, certainly loud enough to hang in a typical jam session with your friends. And if you want to gig with it, it has DI out so you can run it through the PA system. Produces a respectable tone for rock, country, or upright jazz styles of bass playing but I don't slap so can't say if it handles that. It does have a unique feature the Fenders lack, which is a built in overdrive effect. It's an interesting effect but not something I would use that much. Overall, considering the combination of size and portability, sound quality, appearance, and price it's a legit 5 star amp. If you want something pro quality, you're going to have to pay a lot more and it probably won't be as lightweight. But if you're looking for something that gets the job done and won't break your back, buy this Ampeg or the comparable Fender models. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Incredible sounding Bass Amp
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
This amp sounds unbelievably great with out any effect pedals attached, and it's perfect for my apartment. It's much louder than you would expect for it's compact size. This is way better than any crate amp I've ever owned. It even sounds great at low volume, with lots of punch and true bass tones that require almost no equalization. I ran a mic through it to amplify a cheap mini portable guitar amp and it sounded like I had a marshall stack in my apartment, no lie. I'm thoroughly impressed, and it looks better than any other amp I've ever seen, by far. Seriously, it's practically a decoration in my little apartment. ... show more

  • My pick for…
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
This is my pick for the best relatively inexpensive practice amp. The good: great tone- nice warm, rich tone set flat or slightly EQ’d. The EQ works great and gives you a lot of control. The speaker seems to be better than the junk they put in the older it BA series. The look and fit/finish are terrific. Could be improved: it should have an xlr out. The SGT circuit is awful. Just leave it off. No matter what hype they throw at it, this circuit sounds like crap. If you really need OD or grit, purchase a pedal. The money spent on that could have given us an XLR. Other than that, it’s a great little amp. One has to consider however, that you could purchase a used G-K 1x10 or other small pro quality amp for the same price, and that is something to think about. Update: I have been trying the SGT circuit a lot today. It’s not as bad as I made it out to be. I still think that the money could be better spent on a d.I. One of the problems is that you cannot adjust it like you can on the other models. The overall sound of this amp is great though, and I like it better than the Rumble amps from Fender. The cabinet is ported, and fully lined with dampening material too. Update #2: I removed speaker to discover that it’s the same poo-poo driver from the BA-108. I replaced it with a PRV Audio 4 ohm Speaker that gives it much better low end and power handling. The ports on the cabinet (2 of them) could benefit from tubes or flares with a tube, but I’m not going to bother. The interior of the cabinet looks well-constructed and a pleasant surprise was that they use machine screws to retain the speaker. ... show more

  • Muddy Sound Compared to Fender Rumble
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
This is a really beautiful amp, but the 30 watt version that I purchased sounded muddy on the lower notes on the first string, especially in drop D. I tested against a Fender Rumble 40, and the difference was really noticeable. Overall, I preferred the sound and looks of the Ampeg, but since I'm just starting out I really need to be able to clearly hear the lower notes. The Rumble was also 5 pounds lighter. Maybe if I went the next model up (the Rumble 50) it would have been an issue, but I don't have room for a larger practice amp right now, and it's a big jump in price. If you need small and want to stay around the $200-ish price point, the Fender Rumble 40 is the way to go. I got a good deal on the Rumble 40 and am happy with it. ... show more

  • RB108 vs. Fender Rumble 25
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
In comparison with the Fender Rumble 25, this is WAY easier to dial in a apartment friendly volume, while still getting just the right amount of apartment rattling growl going on. It's very pedalboard friendly. The sound is amazing. Turned up, I'm sure this amp could EASILY be loud enough for a small venue or church. Anything bigger, you might want to look at one of the bigger sizes of this model. An added bonus is that my wife and I can both play using the same amp. ... show more

  • Classic Ampeg
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
This is a gem! It has classic Ampeg B-15 tone, in a very small package. Yes, even with an 8 inch speaker. It’s like a little time machine that carries you back to the early days of classic R&B.

  • Sounds and Looks Great
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
Ampeg’s answer to the terrific Rumble line of bass combo amps! Great Ampeg tone, simple controls, gorgeous looks, and light weight. Just what I was looking for in a practice amp (108) and small gig / rehearsal amp (110). Looking forward to the 115 release soon../

  • Great little amp
Size: 1x8", 30-watts Color: RB 108
I have my bass and an electric drum kit hooked up to this little amp. It's great for jamming with my son or daughter without having to have an amp for each instrument. Clean, full sound that gets pretty dang loud for the small space it's in (12x13 room). Ampeg has always made a great product and this is no different. ... show more
