  • You may not receive instructions; you may need to buy both sizes;
Size: 6 Inch (Pack of 8)
Well, I was pretty excited about this, I have to say. I'm not a girly girl. That is really quite an understatement, actually! I'm almost 54 years old and still can't be bothered to style my hair or even put on make-up of any type. So, I thought this was my dream thing - my hair just hangs in my face because it's gotten quite long (about down to my butt) so doesn't have it's natural curl so much as when it's shorter, and it's gotten so thin... Anyhow, I thought, well... This is perfect for someone like me who just doesn't want to spend a whole lot of time messing around with the whole "beauty routine" thing, but wants to be semi-human, in any case - as much (more, really) for myself than for anyone else - considering that I don't even leave my house 98% of the time - a hermit I think is what I am, technically speaking. Anyhow, I get the curlers, and I'm like OK, let's check this out... how do you do this?? I open this package, look in the package for the instruction book they claim is in there... yeah, nothing! I'm desperately shaking the package upside down, like something will magically fall out which was just invisible previously! No instructions. That was a total bum-mer! I just didn't want to figure this out by - figuring this out? So, I went to the internet, of course, like any sane, logical person would do in this century. And I find a short-ish video which explains what to do (beginning, of course, with taking out your instruction manual), and I begin attempting to follow along - much to my dismay, as my hair keeps getting stuck on the velcro (I can't afford to pull any more of it out - I'm trying to save it, not kill it!) and rather than staying in place when I finally get a curler rolled up (finally!) it immediately starts either falling out or flopping around - which isn't at all what it's supposed to do! Very discouraging, indeed, and after about an hour (maybe a little less) of this, I gave up for the evening, and actually a few more evenings. So, after I felt like I could possibly handle it again without feeling like a total failure, back to the internet I go. I found another instructional video (it really is all in what you ask when you search - you don't know until you've tried the first couple of times what to ask, right?) which started out with completely differently directions. Okay, now how can you get one saying one way and the other saying the other...? Never mind, but you get the picture. So, I'm game. I start by watching this for a bit, then I back it up, and start trying this out. And what do you know? It's not perfect, but it's better! It's amazing - the entire point of having a tool is knowing how to use it! I actually paid extra to get the real McCoy - as it were - because it said that it included the instruction book and something about extra styling ideas. And, yeah, I certainly did hop right onto my account and my order to see how I could request a copy of said instruction manual. Nothing doing, of course. I didn't want to get extreme and send them back (probably the way I should have gone...) I just wanted the instructions! Oh, and of course, one of the most important points that I saw in about every set of instructions, you will probably need both sets (both sizes) of curlers if your hair is of any length - something that certainly I didn't see when I was purchasing them! I was under the impression that I only needed the large curlers. Well, certainly there were more than enough curlers in the package, but when you start watching, listening to, or reading just about any instructions they don't get far before telling you that if you have long hair, you should probably start with the smaller curlers in the front of your hair. Oh, well that's a great time to mention that! In fact, I would thing that selling a package with both sizes for just that reason would be a good plan, really! That maybe if you explained that at the point when you're selling them, and the customer is trying to choose which ones to buy... well, just a thought So, the point is... the product could be the best thing since velcro, the greatest thing since sliced bread, but how would I know? I still don't know how to use them properly! And I might never know how to use them properly! That is quite possible... unfortunate, but true! It leaves me in the position of not quite knowing what sort of a rating to give the product. Being a person who likes to be more than fair, I'll go a little over on the rating rather than under. Oh, I did get them on time, that's one thing that tips the scale to the plus side. This certainly has the potential to be a great product but may be over-rated. Who knows? Certainly not me! ... show more

  • These Simply Don't Work
Size: 6 Inch (Pack of 8)
This is a review for both the regular and mini curlers (I own and have tried both). I have fine hair that's just below my shoulders that has no problem holding a curl with a traditional iron or being straightened. I'm quite good at styling my hair with hot tools, but I'm lazy and also don't want to commit to heat styling every day, or damaging my hair with repeated heat use. MINIS: The TLDR version is don't waste your money. These were a disaster. I bought them based on the product recommendation for shorter/fine hair. They're difficult to wrap and definitely have a learning curve to figure out how to get them to stay in your hair. The strap is poorly designed and it's completely impossible to use them without ending up with the dreaded hair dent. The curls were nonexistent; it was more like a slight wave, and even those fell out within an hour. No amount of product (curl creme, mousse, anti-frizz creme, gel, leave-in conditioner) would get the curls to stay. I used these about six different times and nothing worked, so I can't say it was user error. They were not comfortable to sleep in. Not exactly UNcomfortable, but I wouldn't say these are "like sleeping on tiny pillows" like the advertisement said. If you cluster them closer to your face you can sleep on your back (which I do) but for stomach/side sleepers these would not work. No stars. Bad bad bad. REGULAR: These were slightly better. They gave me gorgeous, loose curls that honestly surprised me after the disaster of working with the minis. But by the time I got to work an hour later, my beautiful curls were gone and left a frizzy mess behind. I don't know what kind of product you could use to make the curls stay, because I own about a zillion different bottles of product and nothing worked (I tried multiple times). I will say that the long rollers have a much better design, and you can use the long strap to really keep your hair in place. Maybe if you have super long hair and you can figure out how to make the curls last, these might work for you. They were weird to sleep in - I basically had to arrange them around my face and then I couldn't turn my head once I laid down on my back. It didn't bother me all that much but if you toss and turn a lot these are going to be a problem for you. Overall, I really hate these things. All the tutorials I watched made them look so easy to use (they're not), and the reviews on Amazon seem so universally positive that I tried these way more times that I probably should have, thinking that my failure to achieve bouncy curls or waves was somehow my fault. I watched endless tutorials and no matter how I wrapped these, there was no way to make them work. Alas, these are not for me and are going back. I strongly recommend that for those of you who are disappointed with these, that you purchase this product instead: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B076WXTNHR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 The Octocurl is super easy to use, actually comfortable to sleep in, and the curls last two days! (I'm not affiliated with either product, I just want to share this holy grail of heatless curls for lazy girls like me.) The photos include me right after taking the long curlers out, and an hour later when I got to work. Boo. ... show more
