  • Accurate, Attractive And Affordable
Color: Black
I've waited 30 days to write my review. This AcuRite weather station is spot on time of day and date, indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity readings, and moon phases. The advanced forecast is usually correct (6 to 12 hours out) and the barometer is within one to two hundredths of the nearest government weather station's reading. The desk top display is easy to read and takes up little space on my desk. The display is approximately 70 feet (through exterior and interior walls) from the outside sensor which is hanging on a fence. The signal strength indicator shows four out of four bars. Both units seem well made. When I'm out of town I can swing a security camera around to check on inside temperature/humidity readings - especially important in Western New York wintertime. ... show more

  • A very good unit for a very good price
Color: Black
This is a very nice weather station. Once you get it set up the way you want it, it performs well. It has almost all the features that I wanted, and they all work as advertised. The temperature readings are accurate, as is the barometric pressure (see below). I never pay much attention to the humidity readings, as those sensors are subject to all sorts of variations (However, after many months of ownership, I find that the humidity readings are helpful, if not perfectly accurate). The only negative that I can think of is that it is not possible to set the clock to the 24-hour format. I like to use the 24-hour format, even though I'm in the USA, but for most users this would not be an issue. Here are some other things that potential buyers might want to know: 1) Setting up most of the features is not particularly difficult, but manually setting up the barometric pressure is a bit of a challenge. Many people won't care about that, but I do. I wanted to set it to the reading at our local airport, and it took me about 15 minutes to get it right. The procedure is addressed in the manual, but it could be explained a little more clearly. (The unit does have a 14-day "learning period" during which, I assume, it's supposed to eventually automatically detect the barometric pressure. I neither wanted to wait, nor did I trust this feature to get it right, so I switched from "automatic" to "manual" to set it myself.) 2) The display is very clear and colorful IF IT IS BELOW EYE LEVEL. The more it is above eye level, the more washed out it will be. In other words, you want to place this weather station where you will be looking down at it. 3) It is unrealistic to expect devices like this to actually forecast the weather. This is tough enough for supercomputers to accomplish. If you want a real weather forecast, go to a weather website or watch the Weather Channel. 4) While the literature never explicitly says so, I believe that the time-date function is tuned to the National Bureau of Standards atomic clock [after months of ownership, I have concluded that this is not so; the clock runs just a little bit fast and has to be manually reset]. There is a separate button battery to power this function, which is why the time and date are correct right out of the box. Of course, you do have to set the time zone and whether or not daylight saving time is used in your area. 5) The product information clearly says that this unit is designed to be plugged in. Do not expect it to be otherwise. The batteries are only for back-up in case of a power failure. Be sure to put in the three AAs so you don't lose all your settings if the power goes out or you have to unplug the unit. 6) Read the manual. ... show more

  • Great accuracy when the remote temperature sensor is placed out of the sun
Color: Black
I have used Acurite monitors for a very long time. Bought my first little monitor at a local Target store on sale. They are very helpful and consistently high quality. This new monitor took a while to figure out where I could place the remote temperature sensor to increase accuracy. In full afternoon sun last summer it read over 100 in 90-degree weather, which may have been accurate. Thought I might have to return it as defective, but it was operator error. It was challenging to figure out how to affix the remote monitor to vinyl siding so I would be stable. Hated to do it, but finally inserted a screw through the siding. We have temperature extremes in central Minnesota so some adhesives may not work well. It is well below zero as I write this review. Drawbacks: I placed the indoor monitor in my room, but had to remove it to another room because it was so bright on the lowest setting it woke me. On this bigger monitor, I miss the little guy icon who changes clothes depending on the weather, and I wish the main monitor was cordless. ... show more

  • Nice Station - Very Happy with purchase. Would buy again.
Color: Black
My first review on Amazon. But seldom do you get what you pay for anymore, so wanted to write a short review. This little weather station worked perfectly. Does exactly what it said it would. Temp, humidity, pressure all appear to be accurate. (at least within a degree or two - against other instruments I have - so, which one is right on? who knows and for me, who cares lol) As accurate as I need. After the learning period, the moon phase and weather symbols where pretty good and nearly as accurate as the weather reporting from the local tv/radio stations for long term forecast (12-24hr as advertised). Bottom line is the unit I received preformed as advertised. Other reviews list a problem viewing from an angle. They are correct. The unit must be at the correct angle to view the numbers on the screen. I elected to wall mount mine. Had to adjust the level a couple times till I found the correct angle (about chest high) so I could read it as I walked by. Other then this small inconvenience. Perfect little item. ... show more
