I bought this to try my hand at reworking some electronics. It will work just fine for that purpose but there are some significant misrepresentations. I’m not sure how they are calculating the magnification for this but it’s nowhere near 1000X. When you turn it on, it’s at 1x. You can “zoom” up to 4x which I doubt is even 4x but that’s it. That’s all the zoom there is. You can move the camera closer to the object and it does get bigger but again, it’s nowhere near 1000x. Now let’s talk about the 2 flaws. One significant problem is that you cannot plug the micro usb cable into the microscope. The slot is too close to the back of the screen. I took a razor blade and cut the over-molded rubber off the plug. You’ll need pliers to plug it in but at least it works now. The second flaw is that there is no provision to remove the flash memory card. When inserted, the card is almost perfectly flush with the housing. It is not the type that you can push down and it springs out either. I was able to get the card out with a sharp knife point by catching the edge and flicking it several times but it’s stupidly difficult for no good reason. I can’t understand why they are selling this microscope with those problems not resolved. It would also be nice if they gave the buyer honest information about the capabilities of the microscope. I bought this item as a bday gift for my son. Well, the stand has a screw that’s extremely tight & I couldn't loosen it. I reached out for help here & the assistant was being extremely difficult even after I told him I went out of my way to purchase tools to try to loosen it. I got no resolution to my problem & opted to just throw the gift away. I do not recommend purchasing this unless you want to jump through hoops because they’re not going to help you. ... show more

I tried looking at IC chips and it's nearly impossible, so I tried it on a white piece of paper and same result, same dark circle in the middle. ... show more

    • Full coin to just a mint mark

I love being able to see an entire coin. You just hold it higher and rotate the middle knob on the display to get it in focus. Then you can tip the coin to inspect the details of the mint mark, etc. when you're examining type coins. The closer you get it to the coin the higher the magnification. So if all you want on the screen is the mint mark, you can do that, so you can see from the smallest detail such as the mint mark, to the entire coin. My only negative:The USB plug was not aligned properly which made it very difficult to insert the charging plug, but with a lot of brute strength I was able to insert it. I hope it gets easier as it ages. My fear is that it will break one day while I'm trying to insert it. This is an update.: I haven't unplugged the USB from the unit as it was so difficult to insert, I didn't want to have to try it again, and the cord doesn't bother me. But this stereo microscope (different than the one used for examining blood on slides, etc. that is a compound microscope, so you need to know which one you want) is the best tool I've ever purchased for coin collecting. A stereo microscope also called a dissecting microscope is used for items lit only from above, solid objects such as coins. At 60 using this microscope makes the hobby fun again. I bet in the last several days with this scope I've spent more time examining and enjoying my collection than the entire time I've been collecting. There has been an ice/snow storm with record-setting temps outside, so I've spent all my time since I received this scope, using it. Before I got this scope, I'd look at my coins, maybe even use a magnifying glass, then put them up. Now I can examine every minute detail of each coin. With a magnifying glass, it was always a challenge to tell the difference in type coins. With this stereo microscope, it's easy to tell them apart. And I've found some errors on coins that I hadn't seen before, like half of a missing S on one of my coins where it's obvious under the scope that the press missed the bottom half of the S. And the coins are just more beautiful under this scope. It's very easy to use, one-knob raises or lowers the scope, then the knob on the front of the display gets it in focus. On a dime its easy to get the entire coin in the field, but on large coins like a dollar coin, I found it helpful to just remove it from the stand and the higher you hold the scope the more you get in the field. I'm sure I will continue to enjoy this scope for a very long time. Another benefit of this scope is it's portable. So I believe in my gardening efforts I can take the scope to the garden and examine the leaves to determine the kind of bugs I'm battling so I can take the proper action to get rid of them. If you were an entomologist or an aspiring one, I think you would find this scope quite useful as well. All in all, I find the scope to be well made, easy to use, excellent for the purpose I purchased it for, (examining coins), and something I will use quite often for a long time to come. I would definitely recommend this scope to anyone who wants or needs a stereo/dissecting microscope. ... show more

This is a wonderful way to look at things with your small to the Nikolaj watch today covers just about everything. This allows you to look at non-slide types of objects such as electron a components and circuit boards, jewelry, stamps, coins, or anything else that you can think about. It is very easy to use and the screen is a great size. I purchased a similar device like this on Amazon which appears to be at least half the size of this overall. I really appreciate the base and stand being made out of metal instead of plastic on this. This allows you to even take still shots and videos of what you were looking at. Because of the large screen it is easy to see without straining your eyes by looking into an actual microscope eye piece. Do you have the option of adjusting the level of illumination which is a nice touch. My only miss giving is that the body of the Body of the micro USB plug is a little too thick to allow it to plug into the charging jack behind the screen. Or you are sort of boxed into a corner. You could look around for a USB cable with a thinner handle or get creative and use a Dremel tool to sand down the handle a bit so it fits further. Zero customer service. The product has a defective base so the top can't be attached. Have tried working with Amazon, who referred me to the supplier. I wasted an entire day trying to contact with no results. I have no idea even if the thing works! So I guess I have wasted my money.
