I was not expecting this to be something I would be too impressed with. I was wrong. I have gotten so many bugs that fly and wasn't aware of. Wow. There was a mud dobber, (the black bees that look shiny blue in certain light) that got stuck on it. I was surprised by the sticky pad because it held it. It is very simple to use and the value of it is very good. There's no smell it's not messy and the way it attracts flying insects with the blue or purple light. I've had the mosquito catchers with the fan that sucks the insect down and they either had a constant squeak or vibration that was very annoying. With this you don't have to worry about anything annoying. It only has a light and a sticky pad. Easy pezy. I did do something else to help attract the little pests. This sticks out away from the plug maybe 1 inch and the light reflects on the wall. I had some leftover sticky pads from my old fan style mosquito trap so I just pinned it to the wall where the light reflects on it. That way it'll catch twice the pests and believe me, it works so good. The nats are unbelievable outside and I believe that every time we go in or out 10 nats fly in. I'm not sure what feeds on them but whatever it is needs to come where we live and feast, but until that happens, it's good to know I can still get rid of them. After seeing a few fruit flies in the kitchen and trying other methods to contain them, I looked online and bought this based on the good reviews. After a few days I hadn't seen any more flies. and after unplugging the device I could see several stuck to the glue trap. Fast forward about a week later I saw a gnat in the bathroom, so I purchased a second device. After plugging that it, I have caught several small flies over the course of a few weeks. I plan to keep these plugged in all the time since there were obviously more flies around than I realized. I also like the subtle blue light. This looks like a good idea. But the sticky panel is SO close to the wall that nothing wants to fly there except teeny tiny things smaller than fruit flies. Or maybe baby ones. I caught maybe three or four white and pale green teeny micro flies after four weeks plugged in right next to the kitchen sink. The light is too dim. I also have an emergency battery light / night light, and the night light is 4x brighter or more than this light. I doubt anything is attracted by it. I think the Sticky panel needs to be farther from the wall and the light needs to be stronger. When you produce an upgraded one, I'll try it probably. I have a compact fluorescent light in a normal lamp with sticky traps taped to the inside of the shade. That works extremely well compared to this. In a few months, in the summer, it's covered in noseeums and fruit flies. ... show more

We began encountering what we first thought were fruit flies but then decided they might be "fungus flying bugs" - they aim for your face and are a pain around food. My son had these traps in his home and they seemed to work. They are definitely doing a good job. The only thing I would offer is that, if like us you have under cabinet low lighting that you leave on, the blue light on the fly trap might distract a bit.
