    • The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Before I review this computer, let me discuss why I bought it. I was running automotive diagnostic software on an old 2-in-1 laptop/tablet. By today's standards it had very little RAM and storage SSD. This made running my programs awfully slow and after putting on a little data I ran out of storage space. Thus I needed a new computer. In the meantime my 17 inch touchscreen laptop broke down and I needed something to temporarily replace it while it was being repaired. So on with the review. THE GOOD Despite this computer being no speed demon and nothing to call home about, it was able to run my automotive diagnostic software extremely well. In addition to the Microsoft Windows 11, it also comes with Microsoft Windows 2019, a rather old edition, but still very useful program suite for most people. The computer ran Word, Excel and PowerPoint without problems. I did not try any of the other Office Programs yet. With this older version of Office one does not have to pay the yearly subscription fee. This computer runs Microsoft Edge and Firefox with no problems. The computer took about 3 days to do a HWTest on a 2TB SATA M.2 SSD drive. The computer was able to accept the 2TB SATA M.2 SSD Drive which went into the one SATA M.2 SSD slot on the motherboard. The SATA M.2 SSD Slot was easy to get to. The battery lasts a reasonably long time. The fact that this is a 2-in-1 setup where you can use the computer as either a tablet or a laptop, may be very convenient. With me, using the computer as a tablet when working on my cars where the keyboard gets in the way and as a laptop when typing a document is very convenient. The build of the computer case is rather robust so the computer should be able to take a licking and keep on ticking. The backlit keyboard is a plus. THE BAD As stated earlier, this computer is no speed demon. If you intend to do CPU intensive gaming, video editing, or molecular modeling, you may consider getting a much more powerful computer. The touchpad is placed where one may touch it with their palms during typing which may move the cursor to a unintended place in the document. The license for the Windows 11 software is a volume license rather than the OEM or Retail license. This brings into question the legality of the Windows 11 software. I could not find the license type for the Office 2019 software but I tend to believe the same is true as with the Windows 11 software. You may as well get a retail key so you can get customer support from Microsoft. The computer comes with no documentation. It also has no Windows/Office reinstall disk. So buy a disk cloning software package and a 1TB drive to clone a backup drive before you do anything else. THE UGLY The keyboard has no lights to tell you whether you have either the Cap Lock or Num Lock on. Though the computer seems to be built strong it is quite weighty for a 14 inch laptop. The SSD runs off a SATA slot which is quite unusual in these times. I do not know why the manufacturer chose to use SATA SSD over PCIe SSD. SATA SSD cards are getting harder to find than the PCIe cards and are a lot slower. Upgradablity may become a problem in time. The casual user may not notice a difference, but the power user will. Forget about the cameras, they are awful. The microphone is nonexistent. Because of the hefty weight of the tablet, in laptop mode it tends to flop over Another problem with this computer is that some USB A devices do not fit in the USB A ports. The ports are just a tad bid too narrow. CONCLUSION Though this is one of the best 2-in-1 computers I have seen, it is meant for the casual user who does some word processing and spread sheets or browses the Web not the power user. This is a great little computer. It it already preloaded with Google, Edge, word, excel, power point, adobe as wee as numerous apps. It is fast and has a great picture and sound. The compact sleek design makes it easy to travel. Best buy of the year. I highly recommend.

    • Great bargain, but quirky

Overview: The screen and multitouch pad with hardware left/right buttons are very good, the keyboard doesn't interfere with stuff like programming and using the terminal, the necessary keys are present. The keys are a little firm but will likely break in a bit. Excellent Realtek audio. The SSD is a half sized M.2 there is no hole for securing full length sticks. The case has no manufacturer or electrical information markings. The screen is a little too tightly compressed in the case causing a bit of light bleed on the edges but it doesn't interfere with refresh or contrast. The GPU uses some RAM for video memory since it is CPU integrated but that still leaves a comfortable 6GB or more for system use. The wireless antennae are good but not stellar. A cute mouse was included that works well (old USB micro port on it though) but I like the touchpad. The camera is a user-facing icspring 640x480 VGA module with poor low-light capability but it works pretty well with good light. Notes for advanced users: The display is a portrait orientation natively, rotated in firmware. Windows seems to accomodate this fine during startup, but if you are booting into Linux you will need to add video=efifb fbcon=rotate:1 or similar to your startup command line, and you may have to tell X to rotate it anyway. The keyboard numlock enables the numpad buttons on the keys so watch for that, default firmware config was numlock at boot 0 which avoids this. There is very little support for any CPU security features or virtualization. There is no hardware switch to disable the wireless signals, so spurious emissions may occur. If EM discipline is an issue for you, modify the hardware or look elsewhere. No ethernet ports are onboard. Security: Since the recent scandal with malware loaded on SSDs bundled with similar systems I took extra precautions for testing operating under the hypothesis that it was infected. Before testing I checked the disk image for anything suspicious such as alternate data streams, malware downloaders, implants in the factory provided Windows 11 Pro, hidden partition information, SxS exploits, "funny" registry settings, remote access defaults, or malware in the unused space. During initial startup, updates, and testing I captured the network traffic and analyzed this too. Nothing suspicious to report. All default settings were privacy-friendly until windows update ruined all that, thanks again Microsoft :/ but the seller did configure that well to begin with. The disk shipped with my system was clean and I haven't found any weird keys enrolled in UEFI. Linux tests of the TPM failed to check out on repeatibility, but if you know what I'm talking about you probably don't T your PM anyway :) I would avoid using the TPM for sensitive cryptographic or identity purposes. This could have been a fault in the driver stack on my config, as it's weird netbook hardware. Conclusions: Clean system image as far as I can tell with capable hardware for a low power budget netbook. I have a couple of systems with this CPU. They run great, video decoding is very good, and they have low power consumption if you have your settings right in the OS. I needed a light and portable device to use around work. This tablet has done that and more. It is a full Windows 11 functioning tablet and I would recommend it highly. It only took a few minutes to customize it to my needs. I would buy this product again.
