It does loosen up quickly so just loosen the knob and tighten to smaller one, just not too tight, and cut away. It comes with 3 chains. Easy to put together and take apart for cleaning and storage, and no tools needed for maintenance or the chain tensioner is a big plus. The chains supplied are nice and sharp making for very nice clean fast cuts.

The media could not be loaded. I don’t normally leave reviews but thought this one deserved it. Assembles easy, super lightweight (you can cut one handed - see video) and just rips hard. I’m cutting half logs that were used for a cabin look in an old home and was hesitant to get this because I felt like it would be too small for it. I was wrong… I really wanted this for like camping trips where I can take a small chainsaw to collect firewood but I guess it can do more than that. Makita battery fit in nicely. Oh, buy the oil while you’re at it! ... show more

    • DO NOT BUY, ITS JUT A BOX OF PARTS
The instructions were lacking, I had to watch you tube vids of other chainsaws. You have to fill it with oil, but there are no instructions on this nor what type of oil. There is another oil hole but again no instructions. The assembled saw does not fit in the box you have to disassemble it each time. The disassembled tool is hard to place in the box because there are no obvious indentations on how it fits in the box. The chain saw died after the FIRST USE the branches got pulled into the housing and I had to take it a part ... show more

I am a certified arborist and have been doing tree work for the local utility for the last decade. I have used alot of different brands both gas and electric in my years. with all that being said this is by no means a professional saw or made to notch and drop trees, could you ? i guess.... should you? probably not. this is more designed for small brush cutting or small wood bucking for your fire place the teeth are small and tend to cause very jumpy and clunky cuts. but all and all if you are just looking for something to do small jobs and don't want to break the bank then this is a good choice and has everything but oil to get you going. ... show more
