  • Still getting used to it

I've been messing around for a few days with it, quite a bit actually. Pros: - low price - solid construction (if you add a shock mount) - if you want to boost the lows/bass of the voice out of box, this microphone leans heavily in that direction Cons: - built in noise rejection is not nearly enough to get rid of fans/etc in the environment - may require a lot of effort setting up mixing software with things like real-time noise removal, and fixing the mic's over the top "movie trailer guy" bias if you don't want to sound fake overall: Starting to wonder if I should get something with a more neutral sound instead then it might be easier to adjust. Not sure yet. ... show more

To start off, if you can get this Mic on sale, then you've just got something that is well worth $100 value or more imo and for a Dynamic Mic, it is very very good, i will say though that if you are a streamer just starting out, this is worth a buy, if you are wanting an upgrade from maybe something a little outdated this is also worth a look, its nice because you also dont need Phantom Power for Dynamic Mics, only thing i can see as a flaw or more of personal thing is that since most people speak usually to the sides of Mics this one like many others you speak at the Tip and through the Mic, so if that is something you prefer to not have then maybe this isnt your Mic, if you can deal with it then worth a look. however i personally dont see this as a streaming mic but more so as a Spoken Word or Commentary Mic, it sounds amazing with some tweaks in post, and while you can do some tweaks for Live content, i see this Mic really showing its potential through pre made content or podcasting ect, anything with post or just speaking with no background noise, so like an interview style use. it doesnt have a shock mount with the bundle or alone, so i recommend picking one up for sure, it picks up a ton of that sort of noise, if you bump your desk it'll be heard, so a boom arm and shock mount is highly suggested for this Mic if you intend to use this for Live Streaming if not, i would still suggest it but just having a stand of some sort will be useful. i do think deeper sounding voices sound really well with this Mic, as i have a somewhat deep voice and it sounds crisp, i do hear muddiness at the top end while using the provided filter, but can be fixed in post. before this Mic i was using a MXL 990 Condenser Mic, and i think i prefer this Zoom Mic so far over the MXL. so to conclude, i've seen this advertised as a traveling mic, but in truth any mic is travel friendly unless its a super powerful one then yeah, but to end this, if you need something that sounds great and are limited on funds grab this. Note: you will still need an Audio Interface to use this as it is XLR connected you just dont need to use the Phantom Power with this. bye. ... show more

  • Good sounding podcast microphone and a great price
Style: Microphone
The media could not be loaded. Great sounding dynamic microphone, useful for both speech and singing. Comes with a basic pop filter and plastic microphone clip. It has a slight boost in the higher end, which gives it extra clarity. Bass response is OK; the low end is there, although not as rounded as other higher-priced microphones. You can hear its sound on the video review I did. I did purchase a shock mount for it since it just comes with a plastic clip. At this price range, I can't complain about that. Overall I'm happy with it. Bought another one of these for my wife too, and she's happy with its sound. ... show more

  • Distance is key when using multiple microphones and speakers.
Style: Microphone
As someone who has recorded productions for a radio station, and was the Asst Direction of Audio production for one of the top college stations in the nation I can tell you that overall if you are using this microphone to record vocals for radio production, doing a Shoutcast stream, live stream for a podcast or music show - this microphone is great for how well it performs in those ventures. And for its price range as a dynamic microphone, it's a steal there. I have a condenser mic from MXL in a similar price range, that performs in the same manner. Both are great for doing almost any type of solo work. You can see plenty of videos of this microphone in action compared to others that are far more costly to this microphone. But all of those videos show solor podcast usage. The downside is that if you are sitting across a small table from a co-host, even with the mics facing away from each other, the mic is going to pick them up if you don't get about 3.5 to 4ft distance between the two. I was using a small folding table (4ft by 2.5ft) as a temporary solution with a new recording partner in their office. The cardioid pattern on this mic has some slight pick up from the back end. After some adjustments to mic levels and even setting a cutoff filter on our Zoom P4, it was decided that the table should be orientated to maximize distance between the microphones. I know now that it likely can't be expected for us to sit side by side to host the Texas Hemp Show recording using this microphone. We were using Shure basic dynamic microphones (even their cheap mics aren't really cheap and not worth the much extra cost to fix this issue) at a recording studio before this setup and there was not as much cross-mic pickup. I highly recommend this mic for its professional-level quality at the price point given. Beginners would be foolish to not have such a quality product in their opening arsenal. Zoom has made great recording products in the past for both film audio and broadcast journalism, and this microphone is another step into filling the podcast niche of that marketplace. ... show more
