I hope a younger me sees this, because I really needed this sooner. I'm going on to my third year of college now, and I've been using an electric hot pot for the past two years of living in a dorm due to being stuck with bad cafeteria hours and unhealthy options. However, I became frustrated with how annoying it was to wash in a bathroom sink and how much maneuvering it took to avoid submerging the heating element at the bottom of the bulky pot every time I tried to make rice or pasta. It also took up way too much time because I had to keep my eye on it at all times to make sure it wouldn't boil over. This made cooking more than one meal a day pretty difficult. After sifting through tons of options, I went with this one because it is an incredible deal for what it does. After a month of testing it at home, I really recommend it. The 3.5 cup version says it should make enough rice for 1-3 people, and I can confirm this after cooking for my family. Because I will be mainly using it for myself, I have plenty of space to not only make rice, but also steam vegetables, meat, and make other dishes (such as soups, stews, pastas), that may take up more volume. The removable steamer layer makes it easy to adjust the cooking time of side dishes without disturbing the main contents of pot. The fuzzy logic feature has also taken a lot of the unwanted variability out of rice cooking, and has given me perfect rice every time. Of course I have to comment on the fact that you can set your rice cooker to cook up to 24 hours ahead of time (of course, consider how perishable your ingredients are before doing this), and keeps it warm so you can make busy days easier. There is also a quick cook option if you just need to heat things up or make something like eggs; the temperature control is great. And it is incredibly easy to clean because the inner chamber is removable, and it's made so that food residue doesn't typically stick. And finally, it's made of ceramic, so if you are worried about exposure to Teflon through wear and tear over-time, it's not a problem. It is spendy enough that I take my time and purposefully care for this machine immediately after each use. It keeps my rice hot without overcooking it, it is easy to use, it is versatile as I have cooked quinoa, wild rice and basmati so far. I recommend not trying to make large batches of rice - unless you have experience enough with this machine. In other words, don't come out of the gate trying to make 3 dry cups of rice. I think it needs a bit of user understanding first. Just mho. But it is fantastic and beautiful & easily maintainable machine and I love it. Worth every penny. ... show more

Perfect for 1-2 person households (1-3 cups uncooked rice is usually more, than enough for 1-2 persons). I did not test other functions, only the short/long rice cookings. I was looking for a small rice cooker but with big rice cooking qualities. This makes up to 3 cups but since i only feed 2 people we only make one cup and it cooks perfectly every time. The basic instructions are easy to followed. Like one scoop = 1 cup dried rice. As for the rice to water ratio. The water level is marked inside the rice cooker bowl. So once your rice is raised you just add water to the line noted for the type of rice and its no of scoop. The cooker itself is a funny shape more oblong. So storage could be an issue. But plus. The cleaning is super easy and there is a water stem catcher in back. Just remember to empty before use. The bowl has a nice coating. So no gross aluminum feel like most affordable cookers. I think its a great price for the quality. And more versatile than the more common toaster push done button cookers. What can i say i love it. And it has a steamer basket so you can cook your veggies or pot stickers at the same time. So awesome ... show more

Just a quick review since I haven't had this rice cooker very long. First off it was boxed beautifully, nothing was broken or missing. Easy set up, just clean the unit before using, them feel free to make a fresh batch of rice. I made jade short grain rice. It's a very small grain and is a beautiful green hue due to how it is processed. The rice cooker directions were easy to follow and in no time at all I had a fresh batch of rice, no issues, no sticking, no burning. Just a perfect batch of rice. ... show more

    • Great non-toxic alternative to Zojirushi

I bought this because the pot for my Zojirushi rice cooker was chipping and losing the non-stick. I searched for a ceramic/non-toxic alternative and lots of reviews said YumAsia was the way to go. This is MUCH faster than the Zojirushi which I'm a big fan of (I believe it takes longer because the Zojirushi soaks the rice before cooking but it's still annoying). The cooked rice turned out great and I like that it's smaller portion sizes. Probably not good for people with big families but great for two to maybe four people. Losing part of a star because the handle is placed in a weird spot and it gets in the way of the rice paddle when placed in the attachment on the side. ... show more

I tried to cook Jasmine rice multiple ways. The basic pot method was hit or miss with perfect rice at the top of the pot and mush at the bottom. I tried sous vide which was successful but it's a lot of work to prepare. This little thing gave me perfect rice and it was simple.
