I'm used to using the Knitpicks yarn winder so I'm slowly adjusting to this larger capacity yarn winder. Starting it was a bit of a struggle; the yarn kept falling off. (I used a 5-weight chenille yarn) Before testing it out I had to make an adjustment. Wire Hook and Winding Rod kept hitting each other, I was able to adjust it by loosening the nuts and moving the winding rod. (Make sure it can still go around without touching the Wind Drum). Update: fully caked a 10.5oz Bernat Blanket Skein, 7 oz Big Twist Posh, & 16 oz Pound of Love ( I shifted the yarn cake up once it was full & was able to to add more to it without cutting the yarn) ... show more

I would have loved to give this yarn ball winder 5 stars, it falls short of my expectation. The instructions are not very clear to understand. I had to watch a person's YouTube video to figure it out. It's made of cheap material and I can't help but wonder how long it will be before it breaks. After I had to keep unwinding and restarting, I finally got the hang of it and my yarn cakes turned out great. My advice is to pull your yarn from the center because if you loosen the slack while winding, you will kick yourself. It's hard to get it back going. ... show more
