This Yarn Ball Winder only required twisting in the core to the base, then screwing up the wing nut to clamp the unit onto the table. To use, I just put the yarn tail through the wire guide, then into the slots on top of the core. I like using center pull balls, and I can roll my own pretty quickly, but the Yarn Ball Winder was so easy and fast to use! After winding a ball, I kept track of the starting tail, and slipped the ball up off the core. I was concerned the center of the ball might be loose because of the core's diameter, but the yarn relaxed and filled the center right away. From my sample balls, the green was less than 1/2 ounce, so the center didn't close up. The light blue and the brown are 2-3 oz each. The darker blue was over 3 oz, and the winder was full before I had wound all the yarn; it started getting messy toward the end as the yarn was winding under the base. The core's diameter is 1.5" and the base's diameter is 4.5" I would have liked to wrap balls of more than 3 oz, as the 8 oz skeins of worsted weight yarn I buy can get loose and sloppy when I've pulled about half from the center, and they are ready to be re-rolled. In a perfect world, there would be a smaller diameter core to use with amounts of yarn less than 1 oz. But aside from those limitations, I am pleased with this Yarn Ball Winder, and can see myself using this often for yarn remnants of 1-3 oz. ... show more

I’m an intermittent knitter, but now that two of my kids are knitting and crocheting, I have so much yarn in the house. Someone is always rolling a skein (or not rolling and asking me to untangle a mess!). I picked this up on a whim and really thought it would be a disappointment. It wasn’t! We all LOVE this little tool. I love … — The ease of setup. It just attaches to a table and you’re off. It is SO easy to use that my 10yr old set it up and rolled every skein of yarn he could find all on his own. — It really makes a nice yarn ball (more like a donut than a ball) that has perfect tension. I don’t like hand-winding because I fear my yarn will get stretched or wound too tightly, but this tool keeps the tension perfect through the whole ball. — Once balled, the yarn comes off really nicely. It comes off the machine easily, and then you can pull from the center or the outer edge. Either way works well and eliminates tangles or tension irregularities because you don’t have to keep pulling the yarn to unroll it from the ball or a skein. I have an electric yarn winder that is so old, it's no longer sold. Yes, it's fast, but when the yarn gets caught on something, it makes a horrible grinding noise. I wanted to try a manual yarn winder, and so I ordered the SPEENSUN manual yarn ball winder. I was in a hurry to wind some yarn. There are only two components in the box, the winder and the winding drum. I worried that the winder felt a bit light, insubstantial, but I went ahead and secured the winding drum to the winder, and then the whole thing to my table. Finally, I extended the tension hook into position. And away I went! In a matter of minutes, I had wound 10 balls of yarn, 100g each. I was amazed at how easy it was to put together and get going with winding my yarn. The best part? It was quiet. It really is one of the best things I've ordered in a long time. This yarn winder arrived on time and in good condition. It looks just like the product photos. I have never used a yarn winder before, but had no trouble figuring out how to use it. It holds tightly enough to the side of my nightstand, and makes a decent little cake. I'm pleased with it. Bear in mind that there is a limit to how large a cake it can wind, because of the distance of the hook. As an example, I had a full skein of Lion Brand Mandala Gradient yarn I'd previously wound into a ball- 295 yards of heavy worsted/aran- I re-caked it with this winder, and it seemed to just about reach the limit of what this little winder can do. ... show more

A yarn winder in conjunction with a yarn swift are essential tools for people who enjoy buying hand spun or hand dyed yarns which are usually sold in hanks, not skeins. The yarn winder clamps to a table, the wire arm folds out and provides the necessary tension to allow for even winding of the yarn into a “cake”. the spindle attaches easily onto the winder, and the handle revolves the winder. The “caked” yarn then flows out smoothly from the center of the cake and twisting/knotting of yarn is minimized. Skeins can also be wound into cakes, which can be easier to work with because the cakes have flat bottoms and tops, so they don’t bounce around like a skein. The yarn winder can also be used to wind two or three strands of yarn together into an easy to use cake. I’ve been wanting to get a yarn winder for so long now, and I’m so glad I did!! It’s small, easy to put up and put back away. It definitely couldn’t wind very large cakes, and as it states it’s best used on worsted weight yarn. It’s not too loud! I wouldn’t take it in a library, but it didn’t wake my toddler so that’s a win. So happy with it! I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. This would make a great gift! ... show more
