This Yarn Ball Winder only required twisting in the core to the base, then screwing up the wing nut to clamp the unit onto the table. To use, I just put the yarn tail through the wire guide, then into the slots on top of the core. I like using center pull balls, and I can roll my own pretty quickly, but the Yarn Ball Winder was so easy and fast to use! After winding a ball, I kept track of the starting tail, and slipped the ball up off the core. I was concerned the center of the ball might be loose because of the core's diameter, but the yarn relaxed and filled the center right away. From my sample balls, the green was less than 1/2 ounce, so the center didn't close up. The light blue and the brown are 2-3 oz each. The darker blue was over 3 oz, and the winder was full before I had wound all the yarn; it started getting messy toward the end as the yarn was winding under the base. The core's diameter is 1.5" and the base's diameter is 4.5" I would have liked to wrap balls of more than 3 oz, as the 8 oz skeins of worsted weight yarn I buy can get loose and sloppy when I've pulled about half from the center, and they are ready to be re-rolled. In a perfect world, there would be a smaller diameter core to use with amounts of yarn less than 1 oz. But aside from those limitations, I am pleased with this Yarn Ball Winder, and can see myself using this often for yarn remnants of 1-3 oz. ... show more

My wife has been tempted to get a yarn winder for ages. I could have sworn she had one but I've been told that was something totally different. Knitting is confusing. This one is fairly simple, but it produces a pretty ball of yarn. The clamp has a wide range and bolted securely to the kitchen table. Also, it's a lot of fun! ... show more

I am trying to shy away from things that require batteries or power, so I was pleased to have the opportunity to use a manual yarn winder. This arrived in a small box and stores easily between uses. This is easy to assemble by following the included instructions. This is so much quicker than winding yarn by hand. I was able to do it by myself, but I think that it was easier when one of my kids helped me, but I think it depends on the type of yarn you are using. ... show more

I have an electric yarn winder that is so old, it's no longer sold. Yes, it's fast, but when the yarn gets caught on something, it makes a horrible grinding noise. I wanted to try a manual yarn winder, and so I ordered the SPEENSUN manual yarn ball winder. I was in a hurry to wind some yarn. There are only two components in the box, the winder and the winding drum. I worried that the winder felt a bit light, insubstantial, but I went ahead and secured the winding drum to the winder, and then the whole thing to my table. Finally, I extended the tension hook into position. And away I went! In a matter of minutes, I had wound 10 balls of yarn, 100g each. I was amazed at how easy it was to put together and get going with winding my yarn. The best part? It was quiet. It really is one of the best things I've ordered in a long time.
