The media could not be loaded. Caked up a 50g skein of fingering weight yarn for demonstration purposes as seen in video and pictures. Pros: Super easy to set up, I did it in 2 seconds using only the instruction booklet. Although they do provide you with a QR Code to scan for a video if needed, but I didn’t need it. Wound yarn evenly and efficiently. Not very noisy at all. Just a light whirring sound, which I was expecting to be much louder than it is! Worked the same for fingering, sport, and dk weight yarns. Cons: The only con I can think of is I don’t think I’d use it for worsted or above weight yarn. Although that’s not a con for me as I don’t mind winding worsted and above by hand. I haven’t owned this for very long, but I will be sure to come back and update the review if anything changes. ... show more

Very simple to assemble. Three screws, and they include the screwdriver. I don't get the way they want you to feed the yarn - to the unit, 90 degrees up through a hole then some spring setup, 90 degrees in through a hole then through another spring setup, then through the final hole, and finally to the winder. Seems like a lot of tension buildup. And the springs are supposed to suppress yarn vibration, I guess. OK, fine. Didn't know yarn vibration was a thing. They also instruct you to not use a wooden umbrella; suggest a metal one. Why? I'm guessing here - tension. Didn't we just create a bunch of tension? Maybe someone should tell the manufacturer that many people don't use metal umbrellas because they are flimsy, cheap, and have a half-light on par with milk. But that's another story ... OK, here's what I did ... straight feed. Bypassed the lower feed. Wooden umbrella. Because we do this a lot. Own a yarn business. Ball yarn regularly for knitting samples. Now, the instructions inform us that if the unit feels too much tension, it'll stop then restart up to three times. Didn't happen. If you take care of your tools, they take care of you. My wooden umbrellas run smoothly. The clamp is tight, btw. Uses a thumbscrew. The winder wound. And the result was a tight ball, nicely shaped. The yarn, btw, is 100g of fingering - hand-dyed British Blue Faced Leicester, if you're curious on the latter part. Ball is not quite four inches. Exactly as expected. The variable now is how long it will last. I can literally buy ten of these for the cost of one of the heavy-duty winders, so I'm not worried. Would rather have three of these running at once than spring for three HD ones. If you need a basic model to do the job, this seems to be one. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I have a bunch of yarn that I bought from a yarn stash sale and for whatever reason it is impossible to find the center pull on these yarn skeins. I got this yarn winder for my scraps, but I am having a great time winding all of these difficult skeins of yarn too. I ended up crocheting for hours tonight with the new balls of yarn that I wound with this product, and I never had to stop once to deal with a tangle or having to pull from a skein. It was marvelous! The media could not be loaded. I’m in love with this item. I have made almost 50 cakes so far. The hardest yarn was the one in the video- a recycled double strand. The machine did quite well, even if a bit noisy. Regular yarn doesn’t cause that noise. I’m quite impressed with my first electric winder. It was easy to put together, I was winding in minutes, the extra yarn tension holder seems flimsy at first but is quite handy, and it’s a ln economical value for the money. ... show more
