This winder works very well once you get it to stay attached to the table. The included pom makers are not as sturdy as my name brand pom makers, but they still work well as long as you don't overload them. This would make a nice gift for someone that knits and/or crochets.

This is a review for Yarn Ball Winder, Weaving Ball Winder Needle Craft Yarn Ball Winder, The Helper for Knitting Enthusiast, Sturdy with Metal Handle and Tabletop Clamp, with 4 Size Pom Pom Makers+1PS Scissors Prior to using this yarn ball winder, my only other experience with such contraptions was a few years ago when I borrowed my mom’s ball winder that she bought from an online store that caters to knitting/crochet enthusiasts…so I’m no expert on yarn ball winders, but I have used one before. After a bit of trial and error, this ball winder did the trick and made a nice cake of yarn. My first attempt just running the yarn through the metal guide gave me a cake that was really loose (almost to the point where the cake didn’t want to stay together once I took it off the ball winder). On my second attempt, I manually tensioned the yarn by letting it run through my hand and then through the metal guide. That worked out better. The ball winder was a bit noisier than I remembered my mom’s being (like the gears inside were a bit rough or something), but it did the job. I’m excited about the inclusion of the pom pom makers. There were no instructions for how to use them, but I looked up some youtube videos of a popular name brand pom pom maker and these look like the same design, so I think I know what to do now.     • Easy to use
This is great for winding cakes of yarn. It’s easy to clip to a table or desk and although it takes more time and effort than the electric kind, it’s easy to use and more affordable. It also comes with a decent thread snippet and a few pom pom makers, which also work well.

    • yarn ball maker worked, pom pom makers are trash
yarn ball maker is nice enough, works for what I need it to, however, no matter how many times I try to make pom poms I can easily pull yarn out of the center. its extremely irritating and I've wasted so much yarn thinking I was the issue.

    • Super time saver
This yarn winder was easy to set up and was super easy to do. The instructions are very clear, you just move the winder arm into the locked position, use the vice to attach to your table top (I have a round kitchen table and had no issues with not having a straight edge), insert the yarn and wind it up. Knocked out a whole bunch of my 'scrap' yarn in under 15 minutes. Now i have nice and neat little cakes instead of hand winding around and around in a sloppy ball. The box also had some pom pom makers in it! There were not instructions on those but I found a tutorial on you tube dot com and figured it out quickly. I’ve had a yawn ball winder like this in the past and loved it, so I was quick to get this. It works great, it’s very easy to use, the size of it is not too bulky, and it would be a great gift to anyone who uses yarn on a regular basis. It is worth having! A great product to use to wind your yarn. The instructions are clear. You just clamp onto a table, thread your yarn through and turn the handle. The spool and handle turns smoothly while staying secure to your table When done you get a nice yarn cake. A must for anyone that has yarn.

This yarn winder comes with instruction, the winder, a small pair of yarn scissors, and 4 pom pom makers. The winder is well made and easy to set up. The crank works well and the gears inside seem to work smoothly and easily. These winders are essential to me for turning large amounts of yarn into cakes and this one works very well. I haven't tried the pom pom makers yet so I can't really comment on them but the scissors are small and handy to have in my yarn bag. They come with a cover.
