Outstanding splitter! This Yardmax 5-ton Electric Log Splitter is solid, well made, and thought out splitter. Exactly what I needed for the 2-cords of wood I had sitting outside. I found the assembly to be easy, although I recommend a second hand when attaching the stand to the motor side of the splitter ... heavy. But, heavy is good. I find the splitter to be very built well, just a really sturdy unit. The 5-ton capability more than handles the oak and pine I'm splitting and I like the two handed operation from a safety perspective. Also, I found the return stop very handy when working with shorter pieces of wood. Overall, I'd give this splitter 5 of 5 stars and highly recommend it to family and friends! ... show more

This splitter does a nice job! I split some fresh pine and redwood with it and it's a strong machine. Ran well on a 15amp service with a heavy duty 150' extension cord. The unit ships with a box inside a box with Styrofoam padding. The foam was in bad shape and all the hardware had fallen out of the packet that keeps it organized. Due to the weight it just doesn't ship well but everything is working with no damage to the unit itself. It was difficult to get the stand attached as the front legs don't line up at the proper angles. The rear side where the motor is located was easy to assemble and attach but the front is a chore. Maybe an hour to get it together. I had to use a vise grip to get some of the bolts to reach through and allow the nuts to be put on. Easy to move around and manuvered it down a 100' slope to the log pile with little effort. I have included a photo of what I did with it in two hours of work. ... show more

Reviews were very good and I couldn't find any really bad feedback on this log splitter. Priced right in the neighborhood of what I could spend. I have used an axe/maul to split my 5 cords of firewood annually for the last 30 years but a bad back now has forced my wife to do the splitting and bringing the wood in. We only split our firewood as we need it. It just killed me watching my poor wife struggling to split our 18 inch long and various ( 8 to 18inch ) diameter dry lodgepole pine logs. She just doesn't have quite enough strength. With this log splitter she can now split enough wood for the night in 15 minutes that it was taking her an hour to do before and totally wearing her out. I'm truly surprised what size logs this 5 ton splitter can split with ease. Splitter shipped on a Monday and was here in Montana by Thursday of the same week. WOW. Came UPS in excellent condition. Assembled in 45 minutes with no missing parts or any problems. Love the assembled stand height and log tray so you don't have to bend over to while splitting or pick them up off of the ground once they are split. I had never heard of Yardmax but after a couple of calls to customer service for a question or two I am a happy Yardmax product customer. It really seems like a quality built log splitter. Works excellent so far and we will see down the road in a couple of years. I am a very happy camper. Money very well spent. IMHO. Update: After having used this log splitter for a year and having split 3 cords of firewood it has developed a seeping hydraulic fluid leak at the rear of the splitter. Now it's not a gushing leak but does leave a medium sized spot on the garage floor. If you were using this outside you probably won't even notice it and it only seeps enough fluid that topping off the fluid once at the start of your splitting season will be all you need to do. Not a really big deal and I will keep using it but still worth mentioning and enough that I removed one star. ... show more

It appeared that the box had been dropped in transit as one of the wheels was dented. This is definitely a 2 person job to put together when one of the person's is a woman as this item is very heavy. Instructions were clear, it took about an hour to piece it together. Once together, it worked great! Even I can use it and it does a terrific job splitting the wood and lays it down on the table. No chasing the pieces! One of my neighbors wandered by and looked it over. He said that it is well made and splits the wood better than his more expensive device. It even comes with touch-up paint, lol. ... show more

We have a gas furnace but like to have wood on hand for single digit weather or a power outage that prevents the electronic ignition on the furnace from working. Got this particular splitter after reading several favorable reviews. So far, it’s really performed well and has saved a lot of maul swinging. We do like the fact that it has its own stand so you are working at waist level -easier on the back. Be aware that knottier pieces won’t be completely split so you’ll still want to keep the maul handy. The motor is very heavy so moving the splitter takes some effort. The small wheels make this a chore especially on our rough and unlevel ground. I would not recommend this for those who heat exclusively with wood as it’s probably too light duty. However, for our needs - getting a backup fuel supply, the fact that I as well as my husband can use it easily and for the money, we’re happy wth this purchase. ... show more

    • Log splitter did not work
Bought this splitter came just like it should but after I got it together and pushed the button to start it it would only work if you held the button in once you let go the machine shut off when I called YardMax for help all they told me was to trouble shoot it right out of the book which I had already did do they have no technical people to help but they did say I could take it wherever I wanted and have it fixed and they would pay for but I had this same problem with one of my other Log splitters and did not start this way which a new one So Amazon was great about this they get 6 STARS they sent a UPS truck which came back the next day to pick it up and returned my money as soon as the return was finished SO THANKS TO AMAZON ... show more
