I received this bit today and was excited to get started on splitting some kindling. I first started with a 18 volt cordless drill, ( a good one). From the beginning it was obvious that this was not going to get it done. I switched to a corded drill and split a couple of pieces. Then I hit a spot in the wood that was a little tougher and the bit froze. The drill was ripped out of my hands and nearly broke them. I thought that maybe I was just surprised and should hold on a little tighter. The same thing happened on the next piece of wood, only this time, I held on tighter and the wood spun around and hit me in the shin. This Item is dangerous if used with a strong drill and any wood other than maybe soft pine or fir with no knots. Not sure what wood they are showing in the demonstration video, but it is definitely not as easy as it is made to look. I will leave this in my tool box to remind me to think things out before I buy. ... show more

This is a poor cousin of the original K... It's very small nothing fancy to it but if it does the job I will be very happy and rewarded with my new toy. My opinion, it's a toy. I tried it today and it doesn't performed like it should at least for my project.

I've only used it a few times now, but for what I was doing, it worked great. I am using it to split up planks from an old desk in my basement, the panels are standard 1/4 boards, probably pine, and this bit splits them with ease using a Ryobi one+ 18v hammer drill. I even went through two at once when I got a little over enthusiastic with it. The few down sides I've noticed so far: My drill did bog down on a knot in one plank, it split it after a few reatarts. A heavier drill would not have a problem, but any drill lighter than what I am using would probably not be able to use the bit at all. That said, if your drill gets stuck, you can't put it in reverse due to the fact that the bit itself is threaded onto it's shank. Reversing the drill just threads the shank off leaving the bit stuck in the wood. Either power through what you are splitting or get creative getting the bit out. Also, not sure how much of a problem this would be, but that bit gets HOT! Probably not hot enough to ignite something, but it could give you a nasty singe if you grabbed it bare handed. Overall, for what I was using it for, it was fast, efficient, effective, and even fun! ... show more
