My wife is one of the Queens of Yarnia and she has A LOT of yarn. The problem is that you do not knit from the hank (what they call a bunch of yarn that is not wound into a ball) so you have to wind that hank into a ball or a "cake" (not my kind of cake...no chocolate and no frosting blah) This swift is great as it will fit almost any size hank and then you can use your ball winder (purchased separately) to wind up your ball/cake. This swift is well made and nice looking the only thing that I dislike is that it squeaks because it is wood rubbing on wood. You can use soap or wax to "lubricate" the wood so that it does not squeak just be aware it is a band aid not a cure. ... show more

    • Squeaks and leans
I sometimes wind 20 to 30 hanks a day so it has seen some action now. It makes a lot of noise, squeaks really loud and leans to one side (might be why it squeaks so bad) there is no way to straighten it. I think it was just cheaply made.

The arms of the swift are held together with thin jute and one had frayed. I was able to tie the arms together using my kitchen twine and it worked, however, I am disappointed that I had to repair a brand new product so that I could use it. It is made from raw wood and is a bit sticky to open the swift for use. For the price I would have expected a better product but it does work. ... show more

My only problem with this swift is the umbrella lock is terrible! It doesn’t work properly and your swift will fall while winding.

    • The best yarn swift
I’ve been knitting and crocheting for 23 years and finding a quality yarn swift has been a pain these past few years. This is the first swift where my yarn does get tangled up and actually holds up to high use. I will buy this over and over again. It is very high quality and sturdy.
