  • Update: Perfect hot cup of coffee
Color: Nomodo Trio
Update: Once I found the perfect cup, I was finally able to have that steaming cup of coffee or very cold ice tea. The included mug is cheap and the aluminum liner can burn your lips. Using a borosilicate glass tea infuser mug with a mug cozy was the simple answer. Now it will keep coffee hot instead of warm! It also keeps ice tea cold without water condensing on the mug. Now I am completely happy! I find the fan noise soothing while I savor one of my favorite drinks. It works fine with pop or beer cans but again I recommend using a drink cozy. I just took one of the many neoprene can cozies I had and cut a hole big enough to fit the cooling plate. This keeps frost from forming along the edge of the plate and your fingers don’t have to touch the cold can. It’s great to just lay your phone down next to the mug and it starts charging. No, I haven’t accidentally put the phone on the Peltier plate or mug on the wireless charger. Now I have a charged phone and hot/cold drink within reach whenever I want. I’ve been using this three or more hours a day. Original review: You get pretty much what you would expect which these days can be unexpected. It charged every device I could find in the house and was as fast as any wireless charger I tried. But what about the other side? First I used the included cup and brewed a pot of coffee. I put the cup on the hot plate and drank a mug of coffee while I waited. Checking the cup every 15 minutes and it actually got hotter. I had to slurp air to drink it. But the cup could be better. The kind of people who need something like this use bigger mugs. Unfortunately most metal mugs these days are insulated. Even glass mugs are becoming double walled. Many also have a concave bottom with a rim to keep the mug from contacting the surface and losing heat. This prevents any of these mugs from working. There is an answer or at least was an answer. There is a nice mug that comes with another coffee warmer. They also sell the mug and there is a two pack. But it’s been out of stock for two months both on Amazon and the vendors website. I’ve tried to find similar mugs but either my search talent sucks or they are becoming a rarity as double walled stainless steel mugs have dropped in price. I did find beaker style borosilicate glass mugs (16oz) that work great. They are better covered but even uncovered the coffee stays hot. Not steamy hot but hotter than insulated mugs. So as long as you use the right mug, this is great. I’ve thought about making a drink cossey from an aluminum can to chill plastic bottles. ... show more

  • Looks expensive, but performs like a dream
Color: Nomodo Trio
So, I was pretty skeptical about this thing. It seemed to good to be true really. But, as a fan of the product I wanna give it an honest review. -Pros: •Cools cans very well, just have to stir larger cans a bit •Keeps cans cold even better than cooling them •Warms mugs well - especially the one it comes with. Keeps coffee hot in my office •It stays on for a decent interval of time, and seems very efficient with heat dispersal considering its size. •Fast Qi charger. Really like it. Also has a display light for when your phone is seated properly/improperly for charging. -Cons: •Mug warmer does not work nearly as well on normal ceramic mugs rather than the mug it comes with. •Small bug bear but a little important - cooling drinks is limited to the size of this disc. Most things except for a soda can won’t fit. •Again small but a concern. Over time dust is bound to accumulate in the thin fan fins. This hasn’t been an issue after 2+ months, but I air dust it just in case. There’s no way to really appropriately take it apart for a full cleaning. -My verdict: Despite its flaws I use this quite often and its quality has not degraded over months of use. I quite enjoy it and think for the price what you get is a pretty good product. ... show more

  • Very good... but...
Color: Nomodo Trio
I drink a lot of coffee. So much so that I have large mugs to hold the sheer volume of (ideally) steaming hot beverage. Iced coffee is OK too. However, I hate lukewarm coffee. Hate is not a strong enough word. I loathe it. I want to harm it in a way that will make small children run screaming from it in terror. Simply put: it's not good. So, when I discovered this wondrous device that promises to keep my coffee hot (or ice cold) AND promises to wireless charge my Razer Phone 2 I was all "where do I sign?". The package arrived. The packaging was very cool, both clear and funny. It's been a while since a cardboard box has made me smile. A long while. I unpacked and my initial feeling was - it's white. Everything else on my desk is black. Not sure why I was surprised by this, as I did see pictures of it when I bought it, but still. It's white and it's big. It's a big white boat on my sleek desk noir. Meh, tish and poppycock! I said to myself. I don't really care if it was neon unicorn testicle pink if it keeps my coffee hot! I placed my Razer Phone2 on the charging pad and nothing happened. Then I remembered that the genius developers at Razer placed the wireless charging connector at the bottom edge of the phone and pushed it slightly away from me. the face lit up (as did mine dear reader) and a small blue light lit indicating we had a connection. Ah if only the fairer sex had small blue lights to indicate a connection I may be out on a date right now, rather than writing Amazon reviews. I digress. It now came to the main attraction. Will it keep my coffee hot? I placed my (yes it's larger than most, but that's how I like it, m'kay?) coffee mug onto the left side metal disk and pushed the 'power' button - once for blue (cold) and once again for red (hot). I sat back and waited. The ticking from my wall clock became a metronome for the song of hot coffee joy formulating in my head. My fingers drummed on the dark desktop and my feet pitter patted in synchronous time. Alas, I am not a songwriter, nay, nor a poet, but my song went a little like this: "hot coffee for me, hot coffee for me, hot coffee for EVER, hot coffee for me" - to the tune of happy birthday. After what seemed to be a lifetime of waiting and singing and ticking, tapping and drumming I stopped. Time stopped. I reached a tentative hand out to the (yes it's large, I know this, that's why I bought it) mug's handle and snatched it from the hot disk of promise. I raised the cup to my trembling lips. I already feared the worst though, as my eyes were not enveloped in a hot steamy cloud. My coffee was... lukewarm. LUKE FREAKING WARM! After I came round and realized several hours had gone by since I fainted I started to look for the reason for the abject failure. Maybe it was me? Maybe I wasn't good enough? Perhaps my life choices had lead me down a path where I was forever going to be denied hot coffee at my desk? Maybe it was a faulty unit? (note dear reader - do not place your hand on the hot plate after it's been on for a while - it is, erm, hot...) Finally, I looked at my large (yes, get over it, it's large. I like it large) coffee cup and realized that the bottom of the mug was concave, leading to a curve away from the where the hot plate should be contacting the base of it. Coupled with the fact the circumference was wider than the indented fan zone around the hotplate, this combination meant, most likely that all I had managed to heat was the small pocket of air between the cup's bottom and the hotplate's top. I was devastated. With great sadness, I placed the very very large mug back on the shelf with the other, smaller sized mugs I owned. I could practically hear the ceramic mocking clinking upwards from their collective mouths! Too big! Far too big! Size does matter! Anyway, I swapped to the kiddy beaker that came with the unit and that works just fine I guess. Though when you first put coffee into it the metal lip does get pretty ho ho hot! So be warned. Also, for sale, a much loved very large coffee cup, one careful owner. ... show more
