  • Third time a charm!
Style: 7500W
What do you expect when you ship an unruly 183 lb. generator in a cardboard box? 1st. order never made it to me. Local carrier refused as the box and generator was destroyed. 2nd. order invoice stated price had gone up about $110, customer service adjusted to same price as the first. I went back in to look at order and price had been lowered to $250 below my original price. I called customer service once more and was told after escalating to a supervisor they could not adjust anymore, but I should “refuse” the shipment when it arrived. Also stating I should not wait for another price change as they didn’t know how long lower price would remain, which I did. 3rd. Hoping the 3rd time was a charm I did another order…when the order arrived the driver wanted me to look at the condition of the box before offloading. Box was on its side, holes on side and saturated with oil. Box top clearly stated, “This end up”! I took a chance and accepted the order. “No comprender inglesa”! apparently … Here is what I found. Oil had leaked from filler bung as was not tight. Frame under alternator was bent ¼” up toward unit. (No other apparent issues found). Bottom side of rope pull fins bent in so you could pull out cord but would not retract. (Amazon assisted in calling Westinghouse service-another part on its way-hopefully) Curious issues; Funnel for oil – Ha, Ha, Ho, Ho Ho! Cannot remove/replace battery unless you take wheel off. No fuel filter other than what is under filler cap. Installed inline from shutoff, learned from previous generator. My fingers are a bit thick, tough getting plug back into hole, shroud needed to be a bit wider. Other than that, I ran a bit Lucas over the piston (without plug - 10 cord pulls) along with a sacrificial quart of 10-30 plus 1.5 oz of Lucas ran for an hour. Then drained and refilled with 5w-30 full synthetic (cold where I live) Now it’s in place and will connect to existing transfer switch ASAP. Runs smooth, loud as expected and all connected items never knew the change had taken place, very, very good machine! ... show more

  • Very reliable!!! Definitely recommend 4yrs later
Style: 7500W
So I bought this is 2019 after a bad storm losing power for days. Got a scratch and dent offer by Amazon Warehouse and seriously only the box was damaged... I've now put 240+ hrs on it though I have only used the electric outlets so far and it's a damn champ... I messed up the pulley recoil start (my bad) but the battery start has yet to fail and even with 'older' non stable gas this thing has got me through. It got a workout(for me) this week with the Maine 2023 Grinch Storm it started no issues. I can't say for sure legally but I believe it doesn't emit as much carbon monoxide as some reports show in general (my news said 100 idling cars?!!) Yeah no not this one, it was in my barn with the exhaust out the door.. the location i had to keep it in wasnt ideal but 2 monitors read 0. I had a monitor in my lower barn with my farm animals and one near my interior house door where the extension cord went through... neither Kidde monitors registered ANY manoxide but I ran it only for a few hours a time... I will say... Its NOT quiet... No experience with other generators so I don't know how comparable it is(especially when properly placed out doors *how do people do that 20'???*) Moves ok.. it's not light but with the wheels and bar it's ok, I broke my foot and you can manage this on a hard flat surface ok. Overall impression: worth it's weight in gold... ... show more

  • Works! 50+ yo woman (me) with no motor experience got this working in about 20 minutes!
Style: 7500W
Westinghouse 6000/7500 Model. I had to rely heavily on the user manual, but I got it together. Mild assembly required (just attach wheels and foot stands). From there, add your oil (comes with oil funnel and a liter of 10W30 oil) and then add your gasoline. Battery is pre-installed with some charge, and there are two cables that easily slide together to complete the battery connection. I had slight difficulty in locating the fuel shut off valve and the choke lever (manual diagram indicated they were on wheel side for the 6000/7500 but they are actually on the opposite foot stand side instead -- shown in pix). Once you realize this, they aren't that difficult to locate. They are both factory set in off position. Anyone who works with small motors will have no difficulty at all! The electric start worked fairly quickly so the battery does arrive with some charge (or mine did). I plugged in a work light just to verify power was being provided and the light ran fine. I was able to turn off choke within 10-15 seconds or so. I let mine run about 15 minutes first run (I am assuming it charges the battery while it runs). I have read generators should be tested monthly just to keep them in good working condition (just let generator run about 15 minutes or so each month). I turned the fuel valve back to 'off' when I completed my first run (anyone please jump in and advise if it should be left permanently 'on' -- thanks! I figure if a 50+ year old woman, who has zero experience with small engines can do the light assembly, oil/gasoline filling, find the choke lever and fuel shut off valve (fuel valve needs to be 'on' to start it -- choke 'on' also for a cold start) then ANYONE can get this generator going. And probably in less time than it took me (probably 20 minutes from unpacking to running). Time will tell if this proves to be a reliable long-lasting generator but I did purchase the 4 year warranty and Westinghouse has an excellent reputation in the industry. My research indicates Westinghouse doesn't just stick their label on these generators - they are the actual manufacturer! This is a somewhat loud generator, but compared to my neighbor's generator, it is quieter than theirs. This is expected -- you're gonna hear this thing running; I'm in a brick house with plaster walls and storm windows -- generator was running in un-attached garage 50 feet away from house (garage door open -- don't run this without ventilation!!!) and I could still hear it from inside my house. If I find mine develops early troubles or fails me in my time of need in spite of regular upkeep -- I will gladly update my review and change the stars. But I believe this will be a good piece of equipment for many years of service -- and will be so helpful for running my freezer during power outages. ... show more
