Something Finally Worth 5 Stars! It came the next day! It was very well packaged. It went together in about 5 minutes. It started immediately! I ran it for two hours nonstop (except for five minutes to clean out the hopper once) working on a huge pile of branch trimmings and it worked perfectly. I then mulched the entire garden with my chipper’s output. It’s strong and durable, as well as light to carry. The push stick works great but most of the time the branches were self fed. Excellent safety features. I’m impressed. I can highly recommend. UPDATE! So, I'll admit that the second time I went to start up this chipper, I half expected it not to work not because of anything that happened the first time I used it, but because so much stuff out there works once and that's it. Well, I'm happy to say that not only did it start right up on Day 2, this thing is a glutton for work. I ran it for 2 non-stop hours until I ran thought a pile of sticks from trimming all the bushes in my yard and picking up the sticks from the neighbor's tree. It works great! It takes pretty big sticks (no bigger than what the instructions say) and chomps through them like they weren't even there. In fact, it loves the big ones. It like they clean it out the inside! The drier the sticks, the better. Trim off the side sticks as close to the main branch as you can so you don't have to try to twist it through the system, but if something gets stuck, the push through wand works great and lets you keep all your digits if you are. partial to them. They do help for counting to 10 without having to remove one's shoes and socks first! If you have any side sticks from the main branch, you'll find bits of small sticks in with the wood chips, but I kind of like them as they're biodegradable. Mother nature rocks! It makes its own stuff recyclable . But, if it's a dry stick, you'll end up with some great wood-like chips of a variety of small sizes to fit nicely around the garden plants better than the "mulch" from Lowes and Home Depot where the wood chips either float away or are so large you can't see the plants. In other words, I love this thing! Oh, I don't use the bag that came with the chipper for live chipping. It's a nice bag, but sharp pointy stuff tears through most every type of bag. So, I use a small Amazon box for collecting the chips and then I put the bag on to help prevent any leftover debris leaving a trail as I walk through the house to the garage or walking on the sidewalk to the garage as when my wife is home she reminds me she prefers I don't bring electric or gas-powered tools through the house. I hook the bag to the side clips and run the cord through the handles to hold it on. OH, again, the clip to hold the push-through tool doesn't hold very securely (I think). So, I put the tool in the opening in the handle. It will fall out there, too, if you turn the chipper upside down, but it stays in place during normal use and it keeps you from having to put it in your front pocket and having people ask you all day, "Are you happy to see me or is that the push-through tool that goes with the chipper?" I don't mind the questions, really. I've met a lot of nice people although the amount of drive-through and walk-through traffic in the neighborhood seems to be increasing quite a bit. Everyone wants to see my chipper and if I have the push-through tool in my pocket or on the chipper handle, I guess. I don't blame them. I love my chipper and my tool both! They both work incredibly well and result in tremendously satisfying experiences of jobs well done. ... show more

    • Good for very small work
This machine does its job just fine, and fixing a jam is quite easy, and it is quite safe. The resulting chip size was great. I spread the results as fine mulch in my beds. I have 1.3 acres. By the fall, the piles of small limbs that have fallen get quite large. Due to this, I've now replaced it with a gas powered shredder for my needs. Feeding a single stick in at a time meant this wasn't the right tool for my yard. I spent days slowly feeding it. For small tasks this is great. For a healthy sized yard, this isn't the best tool. ... show more

I have only used it once, but will be giving it a really good workout during the fall and winter. It did a great job of reducing sticks and small limbs to mulch the one time I used it. When it first came, I attempted to remove the blades as some reviews suggested. Sure enough, the screws holding the blades would not budge. I went to Lowes and found a two-foot long, 1/4-inch copper pipe in the plumbing department. It was a perfect fit for the hex key wrench provided with the chipper. Using that for an extension, I was able to easily remove all four hex screws. The wrench is simply too small to work by itself, even though it is a good length over all. The pipe was less than $8, and provides the leverage needed to easily remove the screws. The one time I used it, the chipper was great, and I look forward to using it a lot in the near future. ... show more

I was a tad dubious about whether or not this product would work as advertising; it does! Nice product! Just be careful putting on the pusher holder. I broke it. Also, the unit was cracked with no damage to the outer box. Weird. But it still functions perfectly!

    • almost perfect, with a near-fatal flaw
This is a wonderful, compact, and surprisingly powerful unit that easily handles branches up to ~an inch in diameter. I've used this unit a lot, with nary a problem. Makes short work of a lot of things (for anything bigger than the small branches, I have a *big* gas powered chipper. This unit is for the small stuff). But...heaven help you if you need to change the blades (which is inevitable). In theory, you should be able to loosen the screws, flip the blades over (or install new ones). But, good luck trying to get the bolts out of the blades. I've used heavy, powerful tools attempting to get them out, with no luck. I ended up having to drill them out, which is a real PITA. If you read comments on this unit, you'll find this is a not uncommon problem. It was so bad, that in the end I had to by an entire replacement fly wheel and blades, and chucked out the old one, simply because there was no way you can get the blades off. Your results might vary, but if you *do* buy this unit, you might consider trying to get the screws out and applying an anti-seize before you start doing any work. Seriously. If it weren't for this, 5 stars, but because of this problem, only 3. If you can't take the blades off, this unit potentially becomes 'throw-away' very quickly. ... show more

    • Good With Softwood Branches, Struggles With Hardwood
Very easy to put together, move and operate. My wife is very happy with this chipper and we had fun taking turns feeding branches knocked down by a recent storm. The top opening is smaller than I expected but is sized for the capacity of the machine. Took sweetgum branches up to 1.5" but struggled with oak branches bigger than 1". Easy to clear jams and reset the overload the few times it bogged down. The resulting mulch is better than store bought and should break down quickly. After reading other reviews, I checked the blade screws after assembly and had no trouble loosening and tightening them with the included hex wrench. WEN must have corrected the problem with screws being too tight to remove. Very pleased with this purchase. ... show more
