  • Works Great!! (now that I have reserved an IP in my router) ...
Style: Switch Smart Plug
I now own 12 of these WeMo switches and they have been working perfectly for the last 6 months, but that wasn't always the case. I got my first WeMo switch before Christmas 3 years ago to control my Christmas lights. Every month or so they would drop off my home network and the WeMo app showed them as "Not Detected". They just quit working. I would have to unplug and plug them back in to get them working again. It was frustrating, but I thought it was a small price to pay for the convenience. I purchased more WeMo switches to control table lamps and my porch Light but the more I had, it seemed the problems go worse. I was resetting these things weekly and sometimes more than once in a day. I wanted to throw them out and customer service didn't have clue. This may be a bit too techy for some people, but this is what I did. One day I had an idea. I know that when a network device has a DHCP assigned IP address, the IP is "leased" and will change once the lease expires (typically 24 hours). I thought "what if I set a static or reserve an IP address in my router that never changes? Voilà, that did the trick!! I haven't had a single problem since, and that was about 6 months ago that I made to change. I would recommend to anyone having problems with these switches, as I was, to try setting a static IP address before giving up. It's not too difficult, and for me it was well worth the 20 minutes that it took. ... show more

  • What a huge disappointment!
Style: Switch Smart Plug
I recently got an Amazon Echo, and I decided to try to use smart switches to jazz up the controls of the electronics that I use. I got the switch for my lights. The setup for of the Wemo switch was very easy for me. I was able to get it to connect to my wifi network with no issue. I also got Alexa to notice the smart home device and to add it. Also using the voice commands was no issue. The reason for the one star rating from me is two-fold. First, the switch only stays connected to wi-fi about two days at a time. After that, when you try to use Alexa to turn on the switch, it will tell you that the device is not responding. So you need to disconnect it and re-connect it to the outlet it is on. And again, this will work for about 2 days before you need to do it again. It does not matter if you reset it to factory default, it will do the same thing again. I contacted Belkin support about this and I told the representatives there that I reset to factory default about 10 times and the issue kept happening. I was told to try the same thing again, and also to try to do it with cellular data disabled on my cell phone. That would have no effect because you have to use wifi to set it up. I had both my cell phone and the switch on the same wifi network and it would still inexplicably lose connection. I got the TP-Link smart switch instead and I have had absolutely NO disconnects from the wifi network ever, and also no issue with Alexa. This switch does not work and then Belkin support is atrocious as far as honoring the warranty they are supposed to have on these devices. I am not sure what is happening to Belkin but their products and quality is slipping. I would not buy any of these switches again nor would I recommend it to anyone. ... show more

  • Worked fine for 4 years then WEMO changed the app and locked me out
Style: Switch Smart Plug
My WEMO installation of 7 devices worked fine for 4 years. Then a "genius" at WEMO decided to change the application and require a login and email verification. According to the app, "an email with the verification link has been sent...". This procedure was repeated about 10 times, with the same "insanity" result. I called tech support and spent quite a bit of time on hold. The call was answered and we went through 30 minutes of mindless non-sense discussion where I clearly stated what was happening over and over. AFTER all this time, he said "yes, we have been seeing this a lot and there is nothing we can do about it!" (are you kidding me???). BUYER BEWARE. You have been warned. My system is currently 100% unusable!! (and "no", there is not an email in my junk mail and my Exchange email has been working fine for over a decade!) I will be swapping everything out to a better vendor. ... show more

  • Horrible product horrible support
Style: Switch Smart Plug
Really I cannot express my disgust and disdain for this product. I went all in and bought 10 for the house. The setup process is not hard but is a pain and it is hit or miss. The biggest pain and if you do your research you will find this out on your own. These damn things just disconnect randomly and then you have to go through the 20 minute process ot fix each and every single one. Any time there is a firmware upgrade they lose ALL their info including your network name, their connection details, their names you have set . .everything. And you have to go to each one individually and reset it. You have to connect to the device by setting it up in your network settings as your network, then hope that it connects after 30 seconds or so, then open the app and hope it sees the device, then connect to the device, name it, set it up and then hope that it sees your network . . i mean it is an ordeal and you have to do it ALL THE TIME! DO NOT BUY THESE!! ... show more

  • Was a fan…not anymore..
Style: Switch Smart Plug
Wemo devices were one of the first name brand smart plugs on the market and they were an ok product. My issue was they would fall off the WiFi network as well as my Alexa devices would work about 70% of the time finding these devices. The other issue was trying to reconnect them back to WiFi and it would take about 10 tries if I was lucky. I would also like to clarify that I am employed as an IT Professional and these devices were awful to work with. WEMO support was ok at best, which is what made me purchase Kasa plugs. My last call to Belkin they pretty much told me in a nice way that it was my WiFi and I should fix that first. Well I purchased a 4 pack of Kasa plugs and they work perfectly. I’ve had the 1st generation Wemo devices as well as the energy monitor plug and the mini, all acted the same on WiFi (can’t find, offline, no device) etc… The only downside of the Kasa it’s not HomeKit compatible, but a small price to pay for plugs that work perfectly. If a HomeKit plug is what you need I would check on the Meross plugs on Amazon. ... show more
