  • Handcrafted and Built to Last: Designed in the mid '80s by Yale and US National Team Rower John Duke. WaterRower continues to combine stylish design, handcrafted workmanship, our unique WaterFlywheel resistance and ethically sourced materials create the world's finest rowing simulator
  • Made in the USA - Hand-built in Rhode Island; all timber used in the manufacture of wooden WaterRower rowing machines is sourced from sustainably managed hardwood forests in the Appalachian Mountains. The Club is handcrafted in solid Ash and stained for color

  • Candid and honest review from a nobody
Color: Hi-Rise
I am a typical American person who is overweight and pre-dietetic due a lifestyle of too much stress, to little exercise and the addition of the COVID weight gain. I want to make better choices and get healthy. So, with this in mind, I did research to find equipment that could meet my goal of cardio and minor strength training while being easy on my body (I’m older and don’t want to ruin my joints with hard impacts until my strength and weight are where they need to be) Rowing was recommended as a way to increase flexibility, stamina, strength and great cardio without being overly taxing on your body. This manufacturer and this machine was highly recommended by fitness magazines, some health care professionals and obviously the market place reviews. Now, I ALWAYS take reviews with a grain of salt. But the thing that kept coming up was the ease of use and the sound it makes while in use. I can honestly say, it is very meditating hearing the water churn with each stroke. Like being on a nice calm lake and you are rowing your boat. I really enjoy it. There is an onboard computer that tracks your time/distance/calories burned/workout session and other functions. It has no app separate so you need to use the computer if you want to track anything. Not an issue for me. The machine arrived in three boxes (normally two but I added the upgraded riser kit so the machine would be about a foot off the floor when in use). The one huge box contains the water bowl, the foot board and the pulley system, seat and various hardware to put everything together. The other long box was the rails and storage wheels. The instructions were clear and very detailed. Previous reviews lamented on things not lining up properly or needed additional holes drilled… this was NOT the case for me. However you must not fully tighten any of the hardware until the entire unit is put together. This is VERY IMPORTANT. You might need to push or pull on some items to get things to line up 100% because it is wood and wood can swell if it is humid during assembly. The assembly went very smoothly and quickly. Filling the water tank was a little tricky but as other have mentioned, just use the provided siphon tube and you will be fine. Make sure to add the water stabilization tablet so you don’t end up with funky water. It comes with two (replace once every 6 months of use) and when you register the machine you get these tablets free for life - really) Finally, the machine is solid, sturdy for me (I’m 6’3” 268lbs) and very smooth to use. It stands up when not in use and can be moved around if needed. The riser kit is an extra cost but makes getting onto and off of the rower easier for me. The sound of actually rowing in water and the resistance it provides (water will not compress so the harder you row the more resistance there is) works very well for me. Again, I’m not getting paid for this review. I bought the rower and zero discounts or kickbacks. In today’s world of fake news, influencer culture and paid reviews…. It’s sad that I have to add that disclaimer. For those that got though all of this, I hope you take my review for what it is. Do some of your own research and hopefully you purchase this rower from a company that actually is in America (Rhode Island) and is a real one with real people that can answer your questions and provide lifetime care. ... show more

  • The stand assembly is a bit hairy but I highly recommend toughing it out.
Color: Hi-Rise
I bought this rowing machine because I used to row in college, and that was the fittest I've ever been in my life. I'm in blobby winter shape right now. I live in an area of the country with harsh, crappy winters that prevent me from wanting to ever leave my house unless I have to, so my gym membership gathers dust. I'm also pretty naturally lazy, so I need to be able to get obsessed with something to do it consistently. This product fit my needs perfectly in the following ways: -When I rowed in school, we used fancy concept2 ergs for training purposes. I always found them lacking the romance of why i started rowing to begin with -- wanting to be out on the water. Concept2 is an amazing machine but I have come to associate it with a certain kind of self torture that I wanted to get away from. The water rower makes a pretty good replica of being in a boat. The only thing missing is the CHUNK CHUNK of the oars on each stroke and the fact that rowing is a sport that takes place so early in the morning it may as well be the middle of the damn night. -I have a decent amount of floor space in my apartment but this thing is pretty long. It takes up a fair amount of real estate when it's deployed. I leave it out. All the time. Right in the middle of everything. I encounter it just chilling in my living room and rather than climb OVER it to the couch, i climb on and row a couple KM. Thus, it is more convenient to row than to just lounge on the couch. Optimal for combatting my laziness with more of my laziness. That way my future couch dwelling is well earned. -The stand. I have a few annoyed things to say here, and i almost shaved off a star because of what a pain in the beans the stand was to assemble, but the stand winds up being a net positive despite what an enormous pain in the rear putting it on was. Other people have noted that the stand is a challenge and that was a bit of an underestimation. Here's what has to happen for the stand. You have to take off the little rubber feet that are already on the bottoms of the rails. The screws are in the center of them and they are in TIGHT. But getting them out by hand with a screwdriver is possible. Now you'd think that having just extracted the exact screws from the unit would mean that reattaching screws into the same holes with a bracket instead of little rubber feet would be a relatively simple to-do. You would be wrong. The wood is very hard and placing the brackets with just a screwdriver would be impossible for most humans. It was a challenge with a power drill. The instructions say to assemble the unit itself (which is really crazy easy, more on that later) and THEN swap the feet for the stand. I don't think that's the best way to do it. I did that and I had to be extra gentle so as not to mess with the tank assembly or hurt it. I don't know who the giants are who can do the stand assembly with the unit standing on end, that's like 7 feet in the air. I know most rowers are very tall but I'm not one of them. I had to lay it down. I'd do the stand on the rails after you get the rear spacer on but before the tank assembly. I don't think placing the tank and footboard would be any harder on the stand than on the floor level but doing the stand after is very hard. You don't want to drive screws against gravity so flipping it over first and just doing them with the rails flat on the ground is the way to go. ONCE THE STAND IS ON it makes a huge difference. My mom who is ageing is able to use the machine a lot easier now that it's up off the floor. Getting on the floor can be rough on the knees so the elevation of the stand is a must. - The assembly of the body of the machine was very easy. It would have taken about an hour if not for the stand. I was able to do it all by myself up until the feet got involved. (I am a 5'2 lady.) You might have to push or pull or lean on pieces to get the holes lined up exactly, but I didn't have to bring in any extra tools. -Filling the tank is fairly easy. No muss no fuss. I recommend having a 5 gallon bucket present. that amount provides a decent starting point for rowing with. You can always add more. That filled the tank to about the "16" mark. I'm not really sure what the 16 represents. It provides a good starting point if you're just getting back into rowing or just getting used to the machine. -The sound it makes is so soothing. Very meditative. Part of why I got this particular machine was to enjoy that water sound again without needing to actually find a rowing club. -the monitor is just fine for my purposes. I need to figure out the details of it and I will hopefully update going forward. -The unit is very well made. The one thing that I think might break down over time is the bungee/strap that is actually bearing most of the load. The clip that holds the strap to the bungee is plastic. That looks like the most likely failure point. I will update if that happens. -previous commenters noted that the hardware came in a jumble. Clearly, the company sorted this out because mine came beautifully packaged and clearly labelled. -it's kind of expensive. I'm not even saying that's a bad thing. It is definitely sturdy and high quality, and I believe you get what you pay for. But the expense of it was part of my own manipulation of myself. I can't very well step over a thing that cost as much as a used 2001 honda civic and not sit on it and row, now can I? Exactly. Overall I recommend this machine to anyone who is needs a little push to get motivated and loves rowing on real water. ... show more

  • Full Body Workout Without the Noise of Other Machines
Color: Hi-Rise
When researching purchasing a rowing machine, we came across reviews that listed this WaterRower as one of the top machines. When compared with the Concept2, to us, there was no contest. Who wants to put up with the harsh metallic noise of most rowers when we could listen to the relaxing swish of water you get with the WaterRower?! We ordered the WaterRower Club Rowing Machine w/ S4 Monitor & Hi Rise Attachment as a family Christmas gift, and it is a beautiful, furniture quality machine. Unfortunately, when we opened the package about a week before Christmas, we found that the tank was broken in several places. We emailed back and forth with the seller, Gronk Fitness Products, to get a replacement tank delivered before Christmas, so we could have the machine assembled and ready to use by December 25th. Gronk responded immediately, and was terrific to work with because they were courteous, timely, and sensitive to the fact that this was our family gift. The next time we need to purchase fitness products, we'll definitely check them out first! Because of having to replace the parts on the tank, our assembly time was probably doubled, but it would typically be pretty straightforward. As for the rower, we all love it! Just as soon as we filled the tank on the rower, I was on the seat, and rowing on this machine is a dream. It is quiet, relaxing and very effective at working the entire body. Can't wait to get today's workout in! (See attached photo of the WaterRower in our home gym.) ... show more
